- Q&A with Nadia Verrucci | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Q&A with Nadia Verrucci Interview Share 10 Jun 2017 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Our Admin Col_96 and several Assassin's Creed Community Members had the opportunity to ask Nadia Verrucci questions on her Assassin's Creed experience. (Voice of Juno, Teodora Cobntano and Dilara in Assassin's Creed) Col: Hey Nadia, thanks for joining us today! Before we get started with the Q&A, could you tell us a bit about your work for Assassin’s Creed? Nadia: My work with Assassin's Creed has been very fun! I went in to audition for Sister Teodora, and then I didn't hear back for quite awhile so it was a really nice surprise when I landed the role. I thought an Assassin/Nun/Brothel Owner was a pretty kick-ass part! Somehow, that role segued into voicing Juno...I can't remember an actual audition for that, so I'm not sure if I went in or if it was just offered. I have a terrible memory! And of course, playing Juno has been so fun, I love that people have such different opinions and responses to her character. Col: Juno was first introduced in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, when she spoke with Desmond Miles. Since then, she has appeared in nearly every Assassin’s Creed Game. What do you like about playing Juno? What attracted you to her? Nadia: I love that Juno is a complicated character. I know that she's a main villain in the series but she's not a cardboard cutout baddie. She's definitely a manipulator - she has a goal and she'll do what she needs to do to achieve it. But what she went through with Aita allowed us to see a different side of her, which I think makes her so much more interesting to watch and portray. Col: How much editing is required to make Juno’s voice sound the way it does? Nadia: To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what they do in the studio once I'm done voicing. As far as I can tell, there's an echo added to varying degrees and (in later games) whatever effects they need to make her voice sound like it's coming through the wires/equipment. But it definitely sounds like my own voice underneath all that! Col: How many of the Assassin’s Creed Games have you played? Nadia: I've watched a lot of the cutscenes, and I've even watched some videos of other people making their way through various games, but I've never actually played one the games myself! Col: Did you see the Assassin’s Creed Movie. If so, what did you think of it? Nadia: Oh boy, everyone asks me that question and honestly, I felt a bit lukewarm about it. I thought it started off quite interestingly, but there was a "glossing over" of characters and storyline that I didn't enjoy. The look of the movie was great, though; the action and parkour was pretty amazing. Col: Juno was recently revealed on the Cover of Assassin’s Creed: Uprising #6 . Have you read any of the Titan Comics? Nadia: Someone else mentioned that to me recently so of course I went online to check it out! It's a pretty nice cover, I quite liked it. I've never been into comic books in general, but I think I'm actually going to pick a few up and give them a try; I love to read and having recently met many artists at the Utica Comicon, I have a new appreciation for the work that goes into creating them. So get back to me in a few months and I'll tell you what I thought of them! Community Questions Claudio Canfora: What is your opinion of the evolution of Juno through the differents games and other media platforms? Nadia: I'm not sure where Juno has appeared on other media platforms, other than perhaps the comics. As far as I know she doesn't appear in any of the short films, but never having seen them I'm not 100% sure. As for her evolution throughout the games, I feel like she was given a really great back story that not only helped make the FC storyline clear, but allowed her to be a nicely fleshed out character. She has been relegated to The Grey to try to regain strength, so now I'm just hoping she can break out and take over the world!! ;) Pan Demonium: How do you prepare for your voice acting role? Do you play the games or just watch gameplay, footage etc? Nadia: When I go into the studio there's only the text to work off of. I can't remember every game situation, but I think there have been times when I received the script in advance and instances when I didn't, but in the latter case it would've been just to record a few lines. Oftentimes while I'm recording they'll do what's called "performance capture", which is like motion capture but just for your face, so they'll use that later to help create Juno’s scenes. From one game to the next it can quite awhile, so I just go back to review where we left off in terms of her storyline, so that I can get back into the swing of it. Sorrosyss : Did anything directly inspire your voice for Juno? Nadia: I didn't really have any kind of reference point for Juno before I started voicing her, so I really went off of her text at the beginning. And of course, the writers and voice directors have input, too! I felt like the spirit of her character came pretty easily, I just played around with the best way to place my voice. I ended up pitching a bit lower, since I felt that sounded more grounded and commanding, and smoothed it out a bit for a more mysterious and hypnotic feel. I hope that comes across! Special Thanks to Nadia for taking part in the Q+A, and to everyone who sent in a question. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 10th to 16th April Community Share 18 Apr 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week I will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: Vikings A Journey Ends Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Amaya_Nocturna Platform: PS5 A beautiful silhouette to start this week’s showcase. I love the lighting of this capture and how Eivor is just wandering off into the unknown. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is one epic journey from start to finish. I feel that this shot would be a perfect send off for the game. We never fully find out what happens to our Norse Viking, but I like to think the journey continues and destiny is all. Vinland Attire Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Majdulf47 Eivor’s adventures finally take her to Vinland in search of Gorm as she seeks vengeance for her family. One of the best things to come out of that section of the game is the armour set. This is such an intense but beautifully taken shot of her. I admire the level of detail on the headdress, with the depth of field proving invaluable at amplifying every small element. It is true though that revenge will not bring you peace. Fortress Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ FrameHoldPhotos Photo number three this week is a brave warrior looking over her lands. Every lord is the hero of their own songs, and I am getting real Uhtred vibes from this shot. It is a shame we never obtain a fortress for Eivor in Valhalla. The game is full of interesting buildings, and it would have been nice to call one home. I have tried getting shots like this before and it isn’t the easiest. Kudos to Frame Hold for pulling it off. The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week: Judge: Michael Smith (TOWCB Core Team) This is a shot that took planning. Having ran through the stone castles and fortresses for hours in Valhalla, taking an image like this that gives the game form of Eivor an immersive appearance in her environment. It could be a scene from the cinematics but shows the quality of the game world in action. Fate Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Rambo_590 I love this shot for many reasons but mostly as it is thought provoking. For me this capture represents destiny. I adore how Eivor is walking through the reeds with her hand spread out. The sunlight reflecting off the water is magical. The truth of a man lies not in the lands of his birth but in his heart. Eivor and Guthrum’s victory over Alfred is only the start of this epic time in history and the formation of England. Weekly Vili Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Yamis_Art We end this week with a cult hero from Valhalla. Many fans adore this Drengr but wished his story had been fleshed out some more. Vili is memorable though and having Eivor meet an old friend and advise them that fear is within all of us, but also strength makes for a fitting arc. I admire the deepness of colour and the excellent positioning of the shot. Vili looks ready for battle, but is he ready to be Jarl. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 7th to 13th August Community Share 15 Aug 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Colum Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. This week’s theme: Team Light & Team Shadow From the Dark Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ PodToGo “You bested me. Yet, I am the one left standing” Basim is very much the focal point for this wonderful series right now. His origins story later this year is being greatly anticipated. If there was ever a character that embodies light and shadows it is him. I love how this capture gives the full Basim feel without actually being him. The use of his robes and the darker beard allows Eivor to cosplay the troubled Assassin. The lighting is terrific, highlighting just enough of Eivor to make him look like a classic Assassin. Hiding the eyes with the shadow is easily my favourite part, perfectly fits the theme. Don’t Mess with Me Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ AkiraAoyama_VP “Order, Chaos…If Either Triumphs Alone the world dies” Kassandra epitomises the light, she is the brave warrior who fights for good. She isn’t an Assassin and her enemies are unlikely to find her working in the dark. For a character who lives longer than anyone else she remains dignified and grounded. I adore her expression in this shot, the eye glancing to the side is just perfectly timed. The sunlight glowing on Kassandra meets the theme but also signifies her godly status. The details are so good too, especially with the bow on her back. It a beautiful capture of a legendary figure in the franchise. Ghost of Wessex Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ _Liamism_ “If Hell is real, I’m glad you’ll get to see it” My excitement for Codename Red could not be higher, as a massive fan of Ghost of Tsushima I am really looking forward to Assassin’s Creed’s attempt at the time period. Eivor maybe a long way from a Samurai but thanks to an item pack you can at least dress her as one. I feel like this capture is a great insight into how Red could look, and the armour used for this shot is nothing short of stunning. Once again the lighting here is faultless. The fine points of this armour are highlighted beautifully, I love the colour of the hood with the dragon markings. Most impressive of all is the stance, demonstrating excellent timing with Eivor’s hand on the sword ready to draw. A glorious portrait that is clearly team shadow. Reach for the Stars Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ G_Assassin90 “Earth, mother of all, I greet you” Although Kassandra isn’t a demi-god she is often seen as one due to her links to the Isu and in particular the spear of Leonidas. It is classed as the Spear of Eden and eventually ends up in the hands of Kassandra. This capture of her raising the spear into the air is gorgeously saturated to fit the #ACTeamLight theme. It’s fitting that she is wearing the ‘Wonder Women’ set too as it further solidifies that purity vibe. Everything about this shot signals hero, and I think we can all agree that is what Kassandra is. Link to set: Through the Fire Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ theonlyjess_vp “You wanted fire, well now you have it” Due to the political pressure in Norway, Eivor sails to new lands. Once in England she finds that it isn’t really any different, with both Saxon’s and Danes fighting over who will rule. For a Viking Eivor is very composed and knows when she must adopt the dark for the good of her clan. This black and white capture truly exemplifies both sides of Eivor. The hood and the cloak representing the Creed, along with the elegant shadow across her face. Then there is the glow of the flames sprinkling over her head bring Eivor’s scared face back into the light. The innocent flowers just in front of her also add a touch of light to balance this shot impeccably. Link to set: The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week Judge: Dave Rutter (@ dpruttz_vp ) ''The perfect choice of black and white in this shot. Straight away it puts the emphasis on the contrast of shadow and light, and is bang on with the theme. Great work and awesome shot by Jess.'' And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. - Gamescom 2016: Star Player Diary | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Gamescom 2016: Star Player Diary Events Share 22 Aug 2016 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database On the 19th July 2016, I received an email from Dominique Falkenberg (Ubisoft Community Manager) inviting me to Gamescom 2016 as a Ubisoft Star Player. “We recognize your noteworthy engagement within our community, and we would like for you to take part in this very special week designed for you, our biggest fans.” I was shocked to receive the email, as I had only recently been invited to London by Ubisoft to attend the Assassin’s Creed Movie Press Event. That had been an amazing experience, so I immediately accepted the invitation. I started to research Cologne. A quick google search showed a historic yet vibrant city. I had never been to Germany before, or even on a plane, so this was an invitation I was always going to accept. As August slowly approached, I thought of several ways to tell the Assassin’s Creed Community the news. After speaking to Irakli and Sofija (The Ones Who Came Before Admins), we decided that a graphic would be a suitable way to share the news. Irakli (McHeisenburglar) created a beautiful announcement graphic. I began packing my bag, and choosing the items I would need in Germany, such as Laptop, portable chargers etc. I set my alarm for 6am the next morning, ready for the big day. I didn’t get much sleep that night, as I was really nervous about getting from Birmingham to Cologne by myself. My Dad drove me down to Birmingham and I arrived at the airport with several hours to kill before my flight. Before that I had to check in, pass security and find my gate, which wasn’t as difficult as I had imagined. Luckily I didn’t have to queue for long when waiting for the next stages. To kill time, I started reading Assassin’s Creed Forsaken (For like the 10th time). It took ages for my gate to appear on the board, but as soon as it became visible, I made my way towards it. I got on the plane, which was only a small Flybe aircraft, and luckily had a window seat. I somehow managed to squash my bag into the overhead locker, and waited for take-off. This was my first time on a plane, so I was a bit nervous about taking off. The plane gathered speed and took off down the runway. As the plane left the ground, I realised that it felt very similar to a roller coaster. It was actually quite interesting to look out of the window and see how small everything was! I videoed some of the flight for the vlog I was putting together. As the plane started to decline, after about an hour of flying, I started to get a sharp pain in my head. I realised that it was due to the air pressure, and was completely normal. As we declined further, the pain got even worse, and I was actually in agony at one point. Flying had been great until the last 5 minutes. The plane landed, and the pain went away. We all left the plane, and got onto a little shuttle bus. Many of the passengers were speaking German, a language I barely hear in the UK. The bus stopped, and we all entered Dusseldorf Airport. It was only a small airport, and I immediately found the sky train I needed to get to Dusseldorf Flughafen Train Station. I had about an hour to kill, so again, I started videoing for my Vlog and reading Forsaken. A train arrived 10 minutes before mine was due, so I got on and hoped that it would take me to Cologne HBF. Luckily, it did! On the train, I had tried to get my phone signal to work, but for some reason it was playing up. I had missed two phone calls from one of the Star Player Guides, Angèle. When I arrived at Cologne HBF, I rang her back, but my phone signal was so weak that I could barely hear her. I got off the train and after about 5 minutes received a call from one of the other Star Player Guides, Natchai. Now for some reason, my phone was working again. We met at Platform 9, and began walking to the hotel. As we left the station, I had my first look at Cologne Cathedral. It looked stunning in the sunshine. We arrived at the hotel, and I was handed a Ubisoft goodie bag. I had 2 hours to kill before we all met for the Star Players dinner, so I spent the first hour unpacking, and recording an update for my vlog. The hotel room was absolutely massive! I was messaged by one of the other Star Players, Arnauld (Red Fox), and we met in the lobby. Arnauld told me that he was a member of an E-sports team, and played online games such as The Division and Rainbow Six. After about 30 minutes speaking to Arnauld, I went back to unpacking. At 7 o’clock, I met the other Star Players and Guides. We went round in a circle and told the group which Ubisoft franchises we enjoy the most and how we all contribute to communities. Before the trip, I had done some research on the other Star Players, so I already roughly knew about the content everyone else produced. We had several Youtubers, Forum Moderators and Community Creators in our selection. I recognised Charbel and Elias from the Assassin’s Creed Community. It was great to be around people who love different franchises, yet individually add something different to Ubisoft Communities. We walked to the restaurant, which was about 10 minutes away from the hotel. I took this opportunity to get to know the other Star Players. The food was really nice at the restaurant. After the meal, I was introduced to the Assassin’s Creed Community Team, San San and Laureline. Next we walked to Cologne Cathedral, the iconic landmark that can be seen from everywhere in the city. We had our pictures taken by the camera crew in front of it. It was one of the most impressive structures I’ve ever seen. Such a gothic, dark building. I now want an AC game set in Cologne, as it looks like something straight out of the games! After about half an hour outside the Cathedral, we had the option to go to a party or back to the hotel. It was quite late, and many of the Star Players had travelled a long way. I decided to go to the party. It was full of people in different company shirts. Bethesda, Ubisoft and several others I recognised. We stayed for about an hour, then made the walk back to the hotel. It was late now, and we were up early the next morning. Gamescom Day 1 I slept in the next morning, so missed breakfast unfortunately. Luckily the Star Player guides had given us packets of skittles and chocolate, so I had that instead. We met in the lobby at 8.15, and waited for the shuttle bus to arrive. The drive to Gamescom took about half an hour. We all had our bags searched twice on entry, but the security still wasn’t as tight as I had expected. Hall 6 was where Ubisoft was based for the event, and we were given a tour by Leon Winkler. I was really impressed with the layout. Huge posters for games such as Eagle Flight and South Park. After looking at the Steep booth, we were taken to the Assassin’s Creed booth! It looked amazing! Aguilar and Maria’s robes were in glass cases, and you could take pictures with them. I had seen the robes once before at the London press event, but hadn’t been allowed to take pictures. Behind the robes was a Leap of Faith Photobooth experience! I knew this was where I would be spending most of my time at Gamescom. I felt right at home, wearing my AC Movie shirt and Assassin necklace. The next stop on the tour was the main stage, where Just Dance was taking place. Two of the Star Players (Liam and Can) joined the dancers on stage. I was so impressed that they had the courage to get on stage and dance in front of everyone! They were just as good as the professional dancers, and received a loud round of applause. After the dancing, the Star Players had a group photo taken on the main stage. We then had 2 and a half hours of free time to explore the event. I met Gabe Graziani, Marco from Access the Animus, and Rino The Bouncer! It was amazing to meet people who have contributed so much to the Assassin’s Creed Community! At 12 we had lunch over the road. Outside the weather was ridiculously hot, and I was regretting wearing a hoodie. Food was nice at the restaurant, and a huge table had been reserved for Ubisoft. Angele, Natchai and Moritz sorted everything out with the staff. I was impressed by how organised everything was! After lunch, we went back to Gamescom, and had the opportunity to explore the Ubisoft Lounge, as we had VIP access. Here we could play games such as Steep, South Park, For Honor and Star Trek. The first game I played was For Honor. It was an interesting experience, as it’s very rare I play multiplayer games. I was actually quite good at killing the enemy, but rubbish at blocking, so I died quite a few times. The Demo lasted about 20 minutes, and we had the opportunity to play in different ways. I enjoyed the game, and it felt different to any other game I’ve played. The next game I played was South Park: The Fractured But Whole using the Nosulus Rift. It was such a strange experience. The smell was disgusting, but my headphones weren’t working for some reason. I spent my time wandering around Cartman’s house. I love South Park, and enjoyed the first game, so it was cool to play the sequel before release. Next I tried Steep, which is an upcoming snowboarding game. I was impressed with the graphics, as the sun/snow aspects are really nice looking. It’s actually a pretty simple game when playing, but it becomes difficult when avoiding trees and going down slopes. I can see people perfecting tricks and techniques after a long time playing. I didn’t get the chance to play Star Trek, but I could see that the other Star Players were enjoying the experience. I went and did an Assassin’s Creed Leap of Faith photo. I found Laureline and San San, and we all got some great pictures at the AC Photobooth. Throughout the event, I was uploading images to an album on TOWCB Facebook page to keep fans updated on what was going on at Gamescom. I met Rick Boer at the AC Booth. His Aguilar robes are even more impressive in real life! Some of the Star Players went to the Ubisoft Business Booth to play The Crew. I had played the beta previously, so knew what the game was about. The new DLC was about Police and Criminals, and it reminded me of the old Need for Speed games. It was actually really difficult to escape the police cars, but it was a great game. I attended the Might and Magic talk with several of the other Star Players. It was really interesting, as it’s a game I don’t really know much about. It seemed like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Mythical Lore, so it was cool to see the original art for creatures I’ve seen in other franchises. After the talk, several of the Star Players were interviewed by the Ubisoft Communication Team. The interviews were really professional, and I watched Jon and Charbel answer questions on their Gamescom experiences. After the interviews, the Star Players all met outside the Ubisoft Lounge and travelled back to the hotel. We travelled back to the hotel by taxi, and it was weird to see the steering wheel on the left side! From the hotel we walked to the restaurant for dinner. It was quite late when the meal finished, and we were all tired after a long day. After the meal we all went back to the hotel. Some of the Star Players went for a few drinks in the hotel bar, which was practically empty. We tried the Cologne Kohn Lager, which was pretty similar to the stuff I drink at University. Gamescom Day 2. Waking up early once again, I met the other Star Players in the reception and travelled to Gamescom. This took a lot longer than the day before, as the traffic was crazy! We could see Cosplayers and Fans walking to the event, and I finally realised how big the event really was. When we arrived, the venue was absolutely packed. It was so busier than the day before .I took photos of every Assassin’s Creed Cosplayer I saw and added them to the album. So much time and effort had gone into the robes! I spent a lot of time with Elias exploring the other halls. Gamescom was much bigger than I had imagined. We had spent most of Day 1 in Hall 6, which in itself was massive, so I was shocked to find out that 11 Halls were open to the public. We all met at 11.45 and went to the restaurant over the road. After lunch, we had the chance to play Eagle Flight. It was such an interesting game! I spent most the time shooting other birds out of the sky! It was my first time using an Oculus Rift in years, and it’s improved so much. By moving your head, the bird changes flight path. It took me a while to get used to the movement, as I was holding a controller as well, but after the demo, we played the multiplayer experience. I kept flying into the trees, but loved the game! Speaking to the other Star Players after, we all agreed that it is a very unusual game that takes a while to master, but is worth it in the end. It’s so satisfying to shoot the other team out of the sky! After Eagle Flight, I went back to the Main Stage with Charbel to watch the Assassin's Creed Movie Behind The Scenes Footage! Rick Boer was on stage, and the crowd absolutely loved the footage. After the AC Movie section had finished, we went back to the Assassin's Creed Booth, which was now absolutely packed! So many people wanted to use the Photobooth to get a Leap of Faith photo. Cosplayers were taking pictures with fans. Laureline and San San were handing out exclusive Ezio prints. I managed to get #3 out of 100! It’s now been framed. Next, I attended the Watch Dogs 2 Masterclass with Charbel. It was great to finally meet Chase Straight and Hanny! It was a really interesting talk, and we all learned about the development and creation of the game. After the talk, we went back to the Ubisoft Lounge, where the Assassin’s Creed Star Players were handed so many cool gifts! We were given Statues, Busts, Figures, T-shirts and an Elgato Gaming Capture Card! The Assassin’s Creed Community Team gave us so much! Honestly can’t thank them enough. After receiving a mountain of gifts from the AC Team, we went to the business booth and tried Watch Dogs 2! I wasn’t expecting to actually be able to play the game, so it was a huge surprise! When we entered the business booth, I immediately recognised Aline Piner (PR Manager) from the Assassin’s Creed London Event. It was great to see her again, as she had also seen the first 20 minutes of the movie. We spent a long time talking about Movie promotion and fan responses. I was then taken into the Watch Dogs 2 booth, where I met Colin Graham (Animation Director). It was great to finally meet Colin, as I had wanted to meet him years ago at the Watch Dogs release event in Newcastle. He had been unable to attend the event back then, so finally meeting him was a nice surprise. He talked me through Watch Dogs 2, and I noticed how detailed the game is. The technology has been advanced so much, and the hacks are now so clever. I spent much of the demo hacking cars and changing clothes. Using the Drone was great fun, as you can spot enemies from the sky. I also enjoyed using the Taser, as it knocks out the enemies with one shot. I tried to be stealthy, but I kept forgetting the controls (as it was on console). It ended in a shoot-out, and thankfully the multiplayer partner helped me to escape with the loot. I waited for a train with Sam (For Honor Community Reporter), and travelled to Dusseldorf. Sam got off at the stop before me, and I then made my way to the Airport Trainstation. From there, I got on the shuttle train to the Airport, and found the correct gate after checking in. After passing security, I killed time by reading for an hour, and got on the plane to Birmingham. I saw the most beautiful sunset on the way back. From Birmingham my Dad picked me up and drove back to Carlisle. The Star Player Experience was extremely well organised, and was an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life. To be selected as a Star Player is such an honour, and I absolutely loved every moment of the trip. I met some amazing people, and I will never forget the experience. It was a real eye opener to meet people who knew of my own work in the Assassin’s Creed Community. I never consider my work to be of huge significance, so it was so strange to hear people telling me how The Ones Who Came Before is a great source of information for them. To be recognised at a huge event was such a shock to me. To represent the Assassin's Creed Community as an ambassador once again was a huge personal achievement for me. It's a brand that I have loved for many years, and has given me so much over the years. Thank you so much to everyone at Ubisoft who made this trip possible. Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 18th to 29th November Community Share 17 Dec 2024 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Renzo Back To Database Welcome to the biweekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from the AC Partnership Program. Every two weeks we will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. This theme has been run alongside Malin (@ playpausephoto ) the queen of minimal VP. Malin is an established virtual photographer within the community, and her beautiful VP often catches the eye. She is also well known for her love of Red Dead Redemption 2 and is a member of the VPRT team. You can also find Malin hosting the @ VPMinimalism account with weekly spotlights on community members. Malin’s arrival in the Assassin’s Creed VP space has brought new and refreshing ideas which is a joy to see. Keep an eye on the site as more shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to #ACFirstCivVP for a chance to be featured. Theme: Assassin’s Creed Minimal Free Running Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ WonDerNooB_VP & @ wondernoob.bsky.social The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week Judge: Malin Malin WonDerNoob went all in on the minimalism theme and presented so many fantastic photos. However, it was love at first sight with this one. The column is perfectly centered at the bottom of the image. Kassandra, positioned to the left, caught in her acrobatic act, invites the negative space from the right so beautifully. The soft blurred background blends perfectly with the sky and leaves all attention to the subject. The composition, together with the monochrome tones, creates a stunning minimalist photo worthy as capture of the theme. Aaron I cannot claim to be an expert at minimal photography, but Malin has taught me a thing or two over the years. I find it quite fascinating how well Assassin’s Creed virtual photography fits with the minimalistic approach. WonDerNoob has produced many fantastic photos since joining our community, but I agree with Malin that this particular shot is special. I love the negative space and how this capture could so easily be used as a phone wallpaper. The forward role in a hood atop a Greek column could not really be anymore Assassins Creed. This shot just takes me back to all those breath-taking CGI trailers of Assassin’s scrambling around on rooftops. Alignment Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ SpideyTwoShoes & @ edneyone.bsky.social Animal photography in Assassin’s Creed is extremely common but this shot is taking it to a whole new level. The way Ubisoft populates the worlds with nature really enriches the experience. This capture has a cheeky tone that is a reminder to us that VP should be fun. I adore that the bird is so wonderfully placed between the horns. The dark silhouette against the white background creates a playful and striking minimalist photo. The goat is clearly the Templar watching on as the Assassin prepares to strike. Jump In Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ cyriellevp.bsky.social Being able to dive into the water is taken for granted now but I still remember the days when characters could not swim. I think the addition of the sea to Assassin’s Creed furthers the expansion of the RPG formula. A minimalistic photo can create a sense of scale to the viewer. Here, we can clearly see how small Alexios is compared to the vast ocean he so bravely dives into. I find the blue tones add to the range with the waves ebbing and flowing in front of him. It just shows that for all his power and strength Alexios is but a small part of this beautiful Greek world. Leap of Faith Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ dlazdagaming & @ dlazda.bsky.social The leap of faith is so iconic to the series that it would have been a shame not to feature it here, especially as it lends itself perfectly to minimalism. The most sacred of rites to an Assassin, but not one of violence but of centring one’s mind. I feel minimalism is very much the definition of this. There is so much calm to be found in photography like this. What makes this photo stand out is the colours, the clean contrast and the generous amount of negative space. Bayek is always in need of meditation as the fight for vengeance takes its toll on him. I would like to think he is at peace in this moment. Bonds Game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage VP Artist: @ AggzGaming Basim and Enkidu have such a bond in the beginning, and you sense it as the story develops. They are two silent predators, hunting for the kill. Here the beautiful composition emphasizes the strong bond between the two subjects, even when there is distance between them. Aggz did not hold back on the negative space, which I love about this photo. I find it fascinating how this shot works for their relationship both at the opening and the end. Basim’s mind is one of great complexity and I could definitely see him needing the healing power of minimalism to find his way back to the light. And that sums it up for this Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out the photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 22nd to 10th October Community Share 11 Nov 2025 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Turið Torkilsdóttir Back To Database Welcome to the monthly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from the AC Partnership Program. Every four weeks we will be picking our top five favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. This theme has been run by the @ ACFirstCiv Virtual Photography team. We wanted to celebrate the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji DLC, with a selection of photos from the community. We hope you all have enjoyed venturing back into Japan with this DLC and of course snapping some photos. Keep an eye on the site as more shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to #ACFirstCivVP for a chance to be featured. Theme: Claws of Awaji A Stillness Game: Assassin’s Creed Shadows VP Artist: Hotkey2435 The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Theme Judge: @Falconswift87 Aaron Assassin’s Creed Shadows already possessed a vast array of environments, all unique and beautifully crafted. So, I became quite intrigued by a darker tone heading into the Claws of Awaji DLC. Afterall, Ubisoft Bordeaux did produce very creepy sections in the Wrath of the Druids expansion. It’s always important to have a balance though and that is where this elegant capture comes in. The composition is exquisite and the colours dreamy. The Autumnal trees look very impressive with their red hue. I love the addition of fog in the distance to add mystery to Naoe’s path. For me the white outfit complements the capture so well, drawing the eye into the centre. This shot has been executed brilliantly, bringing a calmness to proceedings. A worthy winner of the theme. Defensive Stance Game: Assassin’s Creed Shadows VP Artist: OpticsShatter Naoe is such an independent character and one that harbours a lot more under the surface. Her passion and determination drive her to be better. She makes for quite a compelling lead character due to her vengeance not being so clear cut as someone like Bayek. In the Claws of Awaji DLC Naoe will have to adapt to being the hunted one but judging by this capture she is more than ready. I am very impressed with the use of black and white, along with the cool defensive pose. I like how we can see Naoe emerging from the foliage, posed to strike. Her attire really leans into the assassin/ninja ethos. A striking portrait that is compositional interesting but also acing the lighting to bring the vibes of the DLC. Surveying the Area Game: Assassin’s Creed Shadows VP Artist: @XSpartanAimeeX I think one of the reasons fans longed so much for a Japanese Assassin’s Creed is the world it has to offer. Japan with its rich history and bountiful landscapes, coupled with the spectacular buildings makes for the perfect playground for players. This capture is really selling that theory with a stunning photo of Naoe surveying a stronghold from the hillside. The colours are so pleasing on the eye, and the superb white of the structure marries nicely with Naoe’s outfit. The foggy background adds to the atmosphere and serves to further highlight the strong autumnal colours. The layout of the shot is akin to the promotional material produced by Ubisoft themselves. It really is a beautiful capture that makes me want to jump back into the game. Bo Master Game: Assassin’s Creed Shadows VP Artist: @TakaSanGames Over the years I have played many games and for the most part enjoyed taking photos in them. I've always had a soft spot for portraits and I think Assassin’s Creed lends itself so well to capturing them. With Shadows implementing the pose option within the photo mode, a whole host of opportunities have now opened up for us VP artists. Taka, known for producing impressive portraits has once again delivered with this captivating shot of Naoe. There is so much to appreciate here from the shadow work to the soft colour tones. It’s impressive how you cannot see Naoe’s eyes shrouding the picture in mystery. I love how realistic this capture looks, almost as if it is a professional shoot. I know Taka mentioned going for a magazine cover style, I think that has been impeccably achieved. The Many Faces Game: Assassin’s Creed Shadows VP Artist: @ marcromanbravo Ubisoft Bordeaux have consistently delivered this generation. They have produced a fan favourite in Mirage alongside too very impressive DLC’s. Both of which have balanced story with a side of horror. I felt the Druid approach worked really well in Valhalla, creating a very different feel from the main game. The Awaji DLC has worked in a similar way. I can’t quite believe this capture is from an Assassin’s Creed game. At first glance you would think it’s a horror title. The focus on Naoe is so unnerving, coupled with one of the many poses you can use in the game. The lighting on her face and the highlights of gold and red make this extremely terrifying. The atmosphere is heighten by the pouring rain and the creepy figure appearing behind Naoe. I am really enjoying the mask just out of focus, adding layers to this frightfully good capture. And that sums it up for this Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out the photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 30th to 5th November Community Share 9 Nov 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Colum Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. This week’s theme: From the Shadows Jumping In Game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage VP Artist: @ shoe2007 “Our Creed does not command us to be free. It commands us to be wise.” The sun drenched atmosphere of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is arguably the dream scenario for a virtual photographer. The lush golden colours of the sun allow for some delightful pictures but also permit the use of shadows. This vibrant shot has the perfect mix of both. I really like how the shot has been split into two by the shadow of the building. The vibrant colours of the flowers just below add a richness to the shot. Then very fitting for the theme we have Basim’s shadow leaping through the air in a classic Assassin pose. A capture fit for the Creed. Link to set: Athenian Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ MechXican “Strong legs mean you’ll thrust your spear with more force” The battles between the Spartans and the Athenians in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is something to behold. These large scale encounters really make you feel like you’re a part of a historic battle. None more so than the opening of the game, that really did give me 300 vibes. This capture is all about the warrior. The shadow work and the lighting are exceptional, coupled with the head turn we have got ourselves a very cinematic shot. I love the blue and white on the helmet, it’s the only colour in this shot so stands out beautifully. This capture has a very powerful presence and fits the theme perfectly. Link to set: Downtown Game: Assassin’s Creed Mirage VP Artist: @ PodToGo “How do you know the angel and the devil inside me aren’t the same thing?” Although Assassin’s Creed Mirage doesn’t quite meet the crowd density levels of Assassin’s Creed Unity it still manages to make you feel like you’re part of a lived-in city. Once you make it into the inner circle there are plenty of people going about their daily routines, especially in the market areas. This shot from Pod sums up my expectations of Mirage. I could not wait to climb on beams above the streets hunting for Order members. I am getting a real Daredevil feel from this capture. I love the silhouette of Basim and the rays of light breaking through the canopy. This shot is Assassin’s Creed, the vigilante working in the shadows to protect his city. Shadow Walker Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ m_nt_13 “I have your soul Gorm” Customisation is such a cool aspect of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, you can dress your Viking in so many different ways. The Draugr set is such an ominous style to use and is fantastic for dark and shadowy captures. When Eivor wishes to incite fear in her enemies there is no better way than dress as death itself. In this capture I am loving the shadow across Eivor’s eyes, and the way it blends in with the striking face tattoo. The hood up helps conceal Eivor’s identity while also adding a menacing feel. I really like the composition too with Eivor’s head off centre, it gives you a sense that she is appearing from the darkness. A truly intimidating shot that uses shadow work to precision. Link to set: Sliding In Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ MdeavorVP “We see the world as it really is, and hope that on day all mankind might see the same” Freerunning has been part of Assassin’s Creed from the get go, and is one of the core pillars of the franchise. For me it reached its peak in Assassin’s Creed Unity and Mirage has been a nice return to form after the more warrior focused games. That being said Bayek is making use of his freerunning skills in this capture. For me this shot fits into the minimal bracket and that is one of the reasons why I like it so much. The hole makes for a beautiful frame as Bayek slides through. The black and white style works effortlessly with this capture to fit the theme of the week. The capture shows incredible talent for lateral thinking. Link to set: The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week Judge: @ Shauna_c_jones ''The original idea of the theme for this was “From the Shadows.” As an Assassin, the goal is to stay hidden. I’m a huge fan of shadow play, so I was really interested to see how people would take this challenge on. I chose this as my photo of the week for the way in which it has been framed by negative space. I’m a sucker for different perspectives and really appreciated how centred the photo is. The capture is really striking and shows an Assassin in action, almost ready to pounce. What a submission. '' And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in! Journey Through History: TOWCB’s Timeline of the Assassin’s Creed Universe - 2023 Edition Breakdowns Share 29 Jun 2023 Written By: Edited By: Michael Smith Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Banner by Thea Marie Rivedal (Moonchildgecko) from TOWCB Art Team. It's time for an update to the timeline I released last year here on The Ones Who Came Before for the Genetic Memory Timeline for the entire Assassin’s Creed Universe (or at least what I find to still be relevant). To get started, please download a copy of the following Google Sheet that I am sharing in a View Only format to avoid unapproved changes to the timeline. You can download a copy of the timeline here . As you read through the timeline, you can check off what items you own and which ones you have completed on one or both timelines. Links are provided for discontinued services that will redirect you to another site that has documented the content of these entries to read over. Overall, these timelines are a great way to explore the Assassin’s Creed universe. Not every single item that Ubisoft has branded will be included such as the companion apps for games or the old mobile versions of titles that would have been played on non-smartphone devices. However, I scoured the internet from AC Wiki, Access the Animus, Wikipedia, and other sources to gather as much lore that I could and put it in on the timeline. In total there are over 250+ items within the Assassin’s Creed timeline so there will be plenty to choose from. The original Genetic Memory timeline is organized by Century (both BCE and CE) from ancient content to modern day, but the new addition for this year’s timeline is the Release Date Timeline; organized by the date of release based on the information that I was able to locate. This timeline is divided by Release Year from 2007 - 2023, with a TBA section at the end for content that has been announced but not yet provided a release date. Unlike the GM timeline, certain transmedia such as the Echoes of History podcast are not divided into individual episodes within the RD timeline, but grouped as one item to be enjoyed all at once. This is also something that you will notice with similar data points being merged together in each column to make it easier to read (at least it is to me). If you do not find this useful, once you download the spreadsheet, you will be able to edit it to your personal preferences. If a piece of content is available in a non-English language, it will be notated in parenthesis. Beginning with the Genetic Memory Order tab, I will walk through each Century and provide a small explanation of what you will find in each section. With the dates for each historical period, you will find the range of when the content took place and find that some items may start at a similar point in time or even during the same time period as another (such as the Assassin’s Creed movie and Assassin’s Creed II). The earlier start date will take precedence over the other, so you can image this as a “Elsewhere this was happening” when moving through the recorded history. Periods that had no major event taking place are labeled with the area that the content takes place. Additionally you will find the GM character (such as Kassandra, Eivor, or Ezio) and then the Modern Day time period and respective character if available. If you have interest in following the MD story in order, see the Release Date Order tab for that option. However as we progress to the 21st Century, the GM periods will fill more with N/As and be replaced with more detail in the MD period and character. The format that you will see for the majority of the main games in the series as it is meant to be an option of how you want to enjoy the story, is that the novelization and game are next to each other in order. I suggest going back to the one you didn’t start with (book or game) once you finish the first to get the full experience. You will also find that the supplemental content for the games in the form of strategy guides, art books, and soundtracks are grouped with their game to provide that full content line. If you would rather explore the timeline in Release Date order, you can select the tab and just read top to bottom as it is organized by dates and doesn’t need any additional explanation. 6th Century BCE From the Facebook application Project Legacy (courtesy of Access the Animus’ recording of the site data) we have a single entry for the period showing how Pythagoras received the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus via the story of his companion Kyros of Zarax. 5th Century BCE Assassin’s Creed Odyssey resides in this Century and all of the content for the story of Kassandra will be located here (minus the Valhalla end of the Crossover Story with Eivor in the 9th Century CE). Starting with the Behind the Legend episode from Echoes of History, fans can learn more about Kassandra’s grandfather, King Leonidas I of Sparta before moving into either the novelization or the videogame for AC Odyssey. Fans will continue with the game’s DLC with a few items mixed in and follow this with the Discovery Tour, and close with the various VR offerings that are available either commercially (at a VR business) or on the Meta Oculus Quest. 3rd Century BCE Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is the exclusive entry for this century. It is set in the Qin Dynasty and will be coming to mobile devices in the future. 1st Century BCE Assassin’s Creed Origins is the focus of the 1st Century BCE. Starting with the prequel novel and another Echoes of History episode to set fans up for the main game and its additional content. Much like Odyssey, this will be followed with the Egyptian Discovery Tour and end with the Origins comic that takes place after the story of the game. 3rd Century CE Moving into the Common Era, The Ankh of Isis Trilogy will be next on the checklist. Now while the Modern Day adaptation of Desmond Miles’ story is not considered canon to the universe, the Genetic Memories are as there are references to this transmedia piece in later content. 7th Century CE The first book in the Imperial Jade Seal series will take place in 660 CE following Chinese Assassin, Zhangsun Qi. This book, Assassin's Creed: Chang'an Wang (Prophecy of the Emperor) is available exclusively in Chinese and has no current information available for additional languages. 8th Century CE The Tang Dynasty continues with Assassin’s Creed: Dynasty in five volumes (6 volumes in France). 9th Century CE This century is the one that many fans will currently be in or waiting for as both Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Valhalla take place here. With Valhalla you will see multiple DLC and content updates listed individually as they have major plot points and was the first game to offer a 2-year content schedule. If you do not see a particular content update listed, it was not added as it was assumed that you will play with the main story (such as the festivals). 10th Century CE Another century with a single entry, The Last Descendants - Fate of the Gods. A good way to wrap up the Viking stories as we move to the original game. 12th Century CE Assassin’s Creed (2007), the original game is the focus of this century. Starting with the DS game Altaïr's Chronicles and The Secret Crusade (Spoilers: This will cover content that you won’t play until the 16th Century as it is about Altaïr's life). The main game and Bloodlines will follow and wrap up with the historical podcast about the overall Assassin’s v. Templars in Echoes of History. I added this podcast after the original game and not in the 11th Century as I felt that it was better fitting to listen to after playing the first game as story elements of the game are covered within. 13th Century CE Mongolia is a key location in the 13th Century as we start with the final content for Altaïr and his family, following with an Echoes of History episode on Niccolo and Maffeo Polo, and wrapping up with the second book of the Last Descendants trilogy, Tomb of the Great Khan. An additional YA novel takes place in Scotland with AC Fragments - The Highlands Children. 14th Century CE The sequel to the Ankh of Isis Trilogy (3rd Century CE) is next with The Hawk Trilogy of books. Either the individual books or the combined trilogy will be acceptable here as it will get read all together. Of all the AC content that I have interacted with so far, this trilogy is my least favorite. 15th Century CE Ezio Auditore takes over in the 15th Century after fans read AC: Heresy by the awesome Christie Golden. Assassin’s Creed II will be the majority focus this century, but will intertwine with the Assassin’s Creed movie as well. 16th Century CE This is the second largest century for content with 41 items to read & play. AC Brotherhood, AC Revelations, and AC Chronicles: China are the major players as Ezio’s story continues and he passes the torch to Shao Jun. 17th Century CE Do you know what the 17th Century has that the others don’t? Witches! Three of the four content entries in this century are about the witches in the US (Trial by Fire comic), France (The Witches of the Moors YA novel), and Germany (AC Hexe, not-confirmed). This century also includes the audiobook, AC Gold, that follows the blind Assassin Omar Khaled during The Great Recoinage in 1696. 18th Century CE The Kenway Saga is the anchor for the 18th Century. Edward Kenway leads with AC IV: Black Flag & the currently running Forgotten Temple manga on Webtoon. His Quartermaster Adéwalé continues our time in the Caribbean with the DLC add-on, Freedom Cry (also available as a standalone game).Edward’s son Haytam is the transition with AC Forsaken (novel) into the Templar led AC Rogue, and then into his son Ratonhnhaké:ton’s (Connor Kenway) game Assassin’s Creed III. AC Liberation adds Aveline de Grandpré to the cast of Assassins and wraps the America’s story before rewinding to a character fans met in Rogue, Arno Dorian. The French Assassin takes us to the French Revolution for the next 16 years of the series and the collection of media based around this release from 2014. 19th Century CE A century of revolution and civil war. Assassin’s Creed India and Syndicate provide plenty of gaming options while The Engine of History trilogy provides amazing stories in novel form from author Kate Heartfield and Aconyte Books. Lots of time will be spent in the UK and Europe this century and covers a vast amount of historical time periods. 20th Century CE The comic lines of the Assassin’s Creed universe take over from here as the games have not continued past the 19th Century, with the exception of Assassin’s Creed Russia. The Russian Civil War, World War II, and the Vietnam War all occur this century. This is also the century that Abstergo Industries was founded (the modern day Templar Order) so fans will get to explore the history of the organization via websites and multiplayer-files from previous games. 21st Century CE We come full circle with more information about Abstergo Industries, including the Employee Handbook and the final volume of the original Assassin’s Creed comic line from Titan Comics. Fans can also continue into the future with the non-canon story of Assassin Darcy Clarkson in the DLC update for Watch Dogs: Legion if they choose to do so. Additional Data (Multiple Time Periods) In this section, I positioned alphabetically the content that covered too many time periods or content that was made for the Assassin’s Creed audience and not the story itself. This includes “The Network Podcast” which I have singled out in this explanation as one of the hosts, Andrien (@EscoBlades) was reported in 2020 for abuses against women. While TOWCB do not support this man in any form, the podcast which was also hosted by Stephen O'Neill (@SickSteeny) & Gabe Graziani (@GabeGraziani) who I feel should not be shadowed by this person. Reference Books If you want to deep dive into the series or get a quick overview of the story, this is the section for you. The Encyclopedias, The Essential Guides, The Official Collection magazine series, and other similar materials are all included here. I could have divided the magazines into their respective time periods, but there are 80 issues and I don’t have them to do that. Maybe if I can ever get my hands on them I will divide them, but it's best to keep them together for now like the Encyclodpia’s various pages on each Assassin and time period. Announced Titles Any and all titles and projects that have been announced by Ubisoft and the Assassin’s Creed Brand that do not have enough information to be placed in the timeline are here. These will be added once more information is provided. But it's a nice way to see what is around the corner for us to explore when the time comes. I hope that this timeline helps all of you organize your plans to explore the Assassin’s Creed universe. If you happen to find an issue with the timeline (as I have found a few typos or copy/paste issues that I have corrected), or if you have additional content that you think fits in the timeline, please reach out to me on this site in the comments or on Twitter @thelordreylus and I will look into it further. I plan on updating this article at least once a year, but with the spreadsheet, I will attempt to keep it updated as I update my personal copy. So go forth and explore this historical playground that we all enjoy and I will see you online to discuss your favorites! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Assassin's Creed Mirage Is Getting Free Story DLC Releasing Later This Year Breakdown Share 24 Aug 2025 Written By: Edited By: Zephryss Colum Blackett Back To Database Assassin's Creed Mirage Is Getting Free Story DLC Releasing Later This Year Ubisoft has officially confirmed that a new Assassin’s Creed Mirage DLC is coming later this year for free, set in ninth-century AlUla, Saudi Arabia. Here’s everything you need to know about the DLC and its development. Image: Yves Guillemot at the NGSC 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Image: Official AC Mirage DLC announcement post. Source: Assassin's Creed on X A short while later, the official Assassin's Creed account on X shared more information. They mentioned: “Assassin's Creed Mirage players, we have a surprise coming your way later this year! AC Mirage will get a new story chapter and missions set in 9th-century AlUla. There will also be gameplay improvements for both the base game and the new location. The best part is that all of this will be absolutely free.'' Here is some information on the AlUla region where the DLC will be set: Image: Qasr al-Farid also known as The Lonely Castle. Source: Middle East Journeys AlUla is a region in North Western Saudi Arabia, in Al Madinah Province. It’s a desert valley area with dramatic sandstone mountains, ancient ruins, and oases. For thousands of years it’s been a crossroads of trade and culture, part of the incense route connecting Arabia with Egypt and Mesopotamia. In the 9th century CE, AlUla was not a forgotten desert, it was still inhabited and functioning as a regional hub, though not at the same peak as during the earlier Dadanite, Lihyanite, or Nabataean periods. By the 7th century, with the spread of Islam, the old pre-Islamic ritual centers and tomb cults of places like Hegra (Mada'in Salih) lost their religious importance. By the 9th century, AlUla was a Muslim settlement, integrated into the broader Islamic world. The inhabited town was known as Al-‘Ulā al-Jadīda ("New AlUla”), built near the fertile oasis. It had mudbrick housing, markets, and small fortifications, with agriculture (dates, citrus, grains) sustaining local life. The region was under Abbasid influence during the 9th century, but being on the periphery, it was more a local tribal-led settlement with Islamic allegiance rather than a major administrative hub. Ubisoft and Saudi Arabia Deal for the New Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC. Here’s how it all started: Source: Les Échos & Eurogamer Earlier this year, the French financial newspaper Les Échos reported that Ubisoft had made a deal with Savvy Games Group, owned by Saudi Arabia. This deal includes a new DLC for Assassin's Creed Mirage. The DLC will feature additional maps, levels, and characters that can be offered to players after completing the base game of Assassin's Creed Mirage. When asked about this, a Ubisoft spokesperson declined to comment and stated they were only focusing on AC Shadows. But on August 23rd 2025, Ubisoft announced that new content is coming to Assassin's Creed Mirage. It will include a new story chapter and additional missions set in the 9th century within the historical AlUla region, improvements to the core gameplay with location-specific additions, and the content will be available for free. This announcement was made at the NGSC 2025 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Source: Digitale Anime on X Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also said during the NGSC 2025 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as reported by Digitale Anime: “We are still cooperating with several parties in the region, and Assassin's Creed Mirage is not the end.” New Early Concept Image Breakdown: Image: New Early Concept Image for AC Mirage Ubisoft also shared this image along with the announcement post, which contains some hidden details. In the image, you can see Basim walking on the sand in a new region, probably AlUla, carrying a brooch from the base game. It is made from the ceramic of his father's house, from which he was exiled. In the sky, we can see Enkidu, Basim’s eagle, flying. On the right side, there appears to be a tomb, which could be an Isu tomb, an Order of Ancients hideout, or a location for hidden treasures. In front of Basim, an old man is walking with a stick, who could be a new character in the upcoming DLC. Image: New outfit for Basim Ubisoft Canada recently shared a new video on social media showcasing a new outfit for Basim in the upcoming Assassin's Creed Mirage DLC. Source: Lee Majdoub on X The English voice actor for Basim Ibn Ishaq, Lee Majdoub, recently teased on X by quoting the official announcement post and writing, “More Assassin's Creed Mirage!” It looks like he will reprise his role as Basim Ibn Ishaq in the new DLC for Assassin's Creed Mirage. - Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Roman Resistance | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed Brotherhood: Roman Resistance Breakdown Share 25 May 2025 Written By: Edited By: Hayden Bird Colum Blackett Back To Database When Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood launched in November of 2010, it instantly captivated audiences who were anticipating a story follow up to the mysterious ending that the previous game, Assassin’s Creed II , offered. The game, quite literally, takes place mere moments after the conclusion of its predecessor. Fans were eager for clarity and to see where the story would head next. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood was an excellent follow-up to a masterful game. It properly continued the story of fan-favorite main protagonist, Ezio Auditore, as it explored his journey following the major changes his life underwent in the previous game. Promo image for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (2010) via Ubisoft Brotherhood dived deeper into the lore of the infamous Borgia family. The game took place during the middle of their regime in the Roman Papacy. The previous game featured Rodrigo Borgia as a main villain and mastermind of the famed Templar Order. Who were the main antagonists of the series. Brotherhood introduced further members of the Borgia family, including Rodrigo’s son, Cesare Borgia, as the psychotic and power-hungry villain who seeked to turn Italy at the time into his personal kingdom. Rodrigo’s daughter, Lucrezia, also played an important part of the story. However, Cesare also was portrayed as a vital member of the Templar Order, following the footsteps of his father. The Borgia family in the game were depicted as evil and villainous people and served a crucial part of the story. Cesare, voiced by Andreas Apergis, is still to this day considered to be the best and most dangerous antagonist in the entire series. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood introduced an Assassin recruitment feature, where Ezio could call on his apprentices to help aid him in combat or sneakily take out enemies in his way. This feature was welcomed by fans and brought a unique aspect of the gameplay that previous games did not have. It was extremely helpful to have some support in combat against formidable enemies. A way of recruitment was helping out Italian citizens of Rome who are fighting against the Borgia guards, and after successfully saving the citizen, he is asked to join the Brotherhood and resist against the Borgia oppression in Rome. Cesare Borgia as he appears in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (2010) Brotherhood also allowed players to explore and take in the full experience of late 14th century Rome. This location was very briefly shown in the past game towards the very end as Assassin’s Creed II mostly featured other cities in Italy such as Florence and Venice. It was great for players to dive into Rome at its fullest. Brotherhood was helped by not attempting to be vastly different from its predecessor, and instead chose the route of a familiar style that the past game was used to. This was wise from the developers at Ubisoft as they stuck with what players loved. There was little need for drastic changes especially in a continuation of the same story being told. Ubisoft nailed the approach. They knew fans were satisfied with the gameplay mechanics of the past game and proved players would be glad to continue Ezio’s story with familiarity and not something entirely different. Ubisoft knew in the following years the series would require significant changes to gameplay in order to be original and evolve as fast as modern technology does. Ubisoft took a smart route by understanding the time would come for major differences, but bided their time long enough to satisfy fans. Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood improved upon the flaws its predecessor had. It stuck to a familiar format, but took necessary action to fix the changes fans disapproved of from the past game. A good example of this is the minor changes the game underwent such as different combat skills, new types of weapons, and new user interface for things such as the health bar displayed on-screen and improved graphics. Brotherhood was well ahead of its time in its ability to not be afraid to make changes, but stick to what players all loved. To some fans, Brotherhood is up there with the best games in the entire series. The story properly explained the continuation of Ezio’s story and made fans love the direction the game chose to take. Promo image for Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (2010) Brotherhood also explored further the story of the modern day segments of the game. The side main character, Desmond Miles, leads his team and friends on a journey that took place simultaneously with the historical part of the game. Some fans had displeasure with the amount of content the modern day story followed, as most players preferred to stick with the historical setting, but the game did a good job showing Desmond follow in the footsteps of his ancestor, Ezio, and properly continued the dual-story aspect. It showed fans that even while deep into the historical time periods, the modern day setting played a huge part in the main story. Brotherhood also showed the importance and power of the fabled piece of Eden artifacts that were commonly mentioned and seen in the games. Ubisoft introduced a mission towards the end of the game where Ezio could fend off hoards of enemy Borgia guards with just one click for the Apple of Eden, a circular object that when interacted with could cause mental insanity or death in a heartbeat. Brotherhood explored three main aspects of the story. Not only did it tell the continued story of Ezio Auditore, but also explored modern day and even further showed the hidden secrets of these Pieces of Eden and their significant importance in the game's lore. Modern Day in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood (2010) In the end, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood was a beyond worthy sequel that satisfyingly showed the events of the past games that fans were dying to see continued after a mystery of an ending we witnessed before. Fans to this day look back on Brotherhood as perhaps the best sequel in gaming at the time. It took all that was loved and adored from Assassin’s Creed II and made it all much better all while keeping the fan-favorite style the game held. Brotherhood was a great sequel and story continuation that showed the oppression that the Borgia family held over all of Italy, and the resistance that Ezio and his fellow Assassin’s took to liberate and free Rome from their tyrannical grasp on the entire society at the time. The Assassin’s Creed series took a serious step forward with Brotherhood and in the end captivated fans who were heavily anticipating the mysterious ending the past game endured. There is so doubt any Assassin’s Creed fan can see and understand the vastly important impact it left on gaming as a whole. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment.
