- Assassins Creed Tribute game - TOWCB Interview with Fan Project Game Director Noah Stavish | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassins Creed Tribute game - TOWCB Interview with Fan Project Game Director Noah Stavish Community Interview Share 9 Apr 2023 Written By: Edited By: Finn Fletcher Colum Blackett Back To Database Back in December, a devoted and skilled group of fans who had spent the past year building their own Assassin Creed game released their first preview video, showcasing initial footage from the project. Now in its early stages, details on gameplay, story and the inspirations are ready to be revealed. Teaser trailer showing the environments of the city of Valletta, located on Quarry Wharf. It’s hard to deny that Assassin's Creed has gone through a bit of an identity crisis in its 15 year long existence, and endless stream of games. Originally lauded for featuring “one of the most unique gameworlds ever created” , the early titles included groundbreaking and innovative approaches to movement, story and the use of history in video games. As the series aged it grew past what once made it special. With the implementation of RPG elements, a stripped down movement system and mythological creatures patrolling the once purely historical settings, it’s hard to find the original ideas that drew audiences to these games so long ago. In lieu of official content to scratch that Assassin itch, a group of long term fans have decided to take on the challenge. “We really just started off with the desire to make a game,” explains game director Noah Stavish . “We didn’t have a single thing in mind for the setting or anything like that. “We just weren’t happy with the direction of the franchise, we’re big fans of the older style games.” “Tribute: An Assassin’s Creed Fan Game”, is a non-profit PC game, currently in development by Erudito Entertainment.'' Set during the French invasion of Malta in 1798, the team aims to bring the franchise back to its roots, with complex parkour and potentially even a few recurring characters. With his cat meowing behind him, I sat down with Noah to learn more about the development process and details of this upcoming game. It started quite earnestly, Noah recalls: “A group of us were talking about making a fan game over on the Assassin's Creed subreddit Discord. We then created our own separate Discord and started seriously discussing the potential locations.” “One of the big things we knew was that we had to have a setting where you play as an Assassin. We want to play as a capital A Assassin.” With this in mind the team created an 800 year period of time to choose a setting between, 1100 (the time of the first game) to 1900, where technology felt too advanced to tell a truly historical tale. Between that, and the gameplay intentions of bringing back complex parkour and detailed stealth mechanics, Malta seemed like the ideal setting; a unique location and period with enough political intrigue and highly populated cities to service a perfect Assassins tale. But, Noah made sure to point out that this setting will be more than just a pretty backdrop. “There’s a lot of really interesting conspiracy and intrigue and politics to play around with.'' “At the time the Knights Hospitaller, the Knights of Malta, started digging into the ancient temples of Malta.'' Concept work for customisable outfits. The team is taking inspiration from the disguise mechanics of Hitman and Assassin’s Creed Liberation, while keeping the visual codes of Assassin robes “We were looking at this, there were reports of this digging continuing throughout the late 18th Century. What were they digging for? “They’re in the middle of a siege and have a department of people going to dig up the site every day. That’s really weird.” It’s within the crevices of histories strangeness that Euridito Entertainment plan to build their story, playing into mysteries like what the Knights Hospitaller were truly upto, or Napoleon's secret motivations. The story itself will follow a young Assassin named Karmena, as she gains new skills to take out the threats that face this island. Harkening back to the Ezio trilogy, her family will be recurring characters, with their safety and own philosophies being constant pressures on Karmena’s actions. It’s all shaping up to be a true spiritual successor to the original titles, with an experienced developer leading the project. Noah told me: “I started off as an indie [developer] back in 2014. Game development has really been a passion, something I wanted to go into. “I ended up working at project contingency, project coral and a few other fan projects. That eventually led to me getting a job with Microsoft, I helped release Crackdown 3, Gears 5, and a couple Minecraft updates.” With this breadth of experience leading the team, and a dedication to the franchise, only one threat really stands in their way. Copyright law. “Shortly after we had the idea I reached out to Ubisoft support to see about whether or not this was allowed. “We didn’t hear from them till a week or two ago when we posted the teaser trailer. I was contacted directly by a Ubisoft representative who was just asking about the project, and I told them we were fully willing to comply with any of their demands.'' “I’m happy to do anything to make them feel secure in their IP.” So far Ubisoft seem to be happy, leaving the project to tick along without intrusion. With a few years of development left however, we will wait and see. Currently, the team are looking for artists and animators, especially those who can work with metahumans and Unreal Engine 5. To find out more about “Tribute” visit their Discord, or their ModDB page. Fact File Originally Assassins Creed was intended to be a spinoff of the Prince of Persia franchise, however as development progressed the team saw the potential of turning it into an original IP. The series' philosophies and historical influences are inspired by the Russian novel Alamut, which explores the real Islamic rebellions during the crusades. A TV adaptation of the series is currently in development by Netflix. At least four official Assassins Creed games are currently in development at Ubisoft, two of which will finally take the player to Asia. Ubisoft hire doctors of history to research the periods the game will be set in, as this allows them to build as accurate as possible depictions of the periods they explore. We would like to say a huge thank you to Noah for joining us for this interview. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 2nd - 8th January 2023 Community Share 8 Jan 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup series hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week I will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: Assassin’s Creed 1. Snake in the Shadows Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ MechXican First up this week we have a striking shot of Kassandra dressed for the kill. I love the lighting of this capture, the dark background with the snippets of light on her face really gives off Assassin vibes. I love finding stealth focused shots from Odyssey due to it often receiving criticism for its lack of Assassin’s. This shot is worthy of its place in the first showcase of 2023. 2. Assassin Pose. Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Platform: PS5 VP Artist: @ Amaya_Nocturna Just like with Odyssey it is cool when you find a real Assassin's pose in Valhalla. Personally, I focus more on the Viking aspects when playing the game , but I think the cities lend themselves to some very classic shots. I love this one of Eivor. The background is just stunning, showcasing the true beauty of Valhalla. The pose is perfection, that head turn makes the shot for me. 3. From the Dark Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Platform: PlayStation VP Artist: @ artschoolglases Capture number three matches that of Kass andra with the spectacular black background. I particularly like how the darker outfit and hair blend brilliantly with the atmosphere of the shot. Eivor's pale skin tone allows her face to really shine. Coupled with the subtle green eye tattoo it makes for one marvellous portrait of our favourite Viking. 4. The Ghost of Valhalla Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ SGVphoto Something a little different for photo number four. Here we have a unique edit of Eivor in the Monster Hunter crossover outfit. I am not one for armour sets that don't fit the time period but this one does look awesome. The choice of colour is truly amazing, giving off a real movie poster vibe. I wonder if this could be an insight into what we might expect from Codename Red. 5. Magnificent Paris Game: Assassin’s Creed Unity VP Artist: @ ophierian_vp This week's final shot comes with a touch of class. Assassin's Creed Unity always oozed class when it comes to buildings and this capture proves it. I am really blown away by the details and the lighting in this shot. To the untrained eye this could be mistaken for real life. I am hoping Mirage can bring back some of the beautiful interior's thanks to its smaller scale. Link to set: The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week: Judge: Colum Blackett (TOWCB Community Admin // Creator) Snake in the Shadows Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ MechXican I absolutely love the colours in this shot, and the look on Kassandra's face as she observes her pray beneath a mask. The snake set turns Kassandra into a predator, ready to strike. This shot would make a very cool phone wallpaper. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This week’s theme: Assassin’s Creed Invisible Man Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Falconswift87 I would say this is a great start to the week but the NPC in question is hard to see. Most people will see right through this one, but I thought it was worth a mention. You don’t often see things like this in video games. Birb Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ TheLordReylus Photo number two gives us a bird’s eye view. I am loving the pixilation here as it really adds to the feel of the shot. That tree growing out of Senu neck is giving me real hidden blade vibes. Snoozing Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ TheaMR1305 Next up we have an after action report from London. Some enemy solider has an arrow in the neck, at least they fell onto something soft. Talk about lying down on the job! A Powerful Stance Game: Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry VP Artist: @ col_96 I had to feature this shot, how often do we get a chance to see some Freedom Cry virtual photography. Fun fact: this shot was first published in April 2022, and went on to become a sensational meme……………….if you get a chance check it out. Comfort Break Game: Assassin’s Creed Unity VP Artist: @ FrameHoldPhotos We end this week’s showcase with Arno stuck in a prison cell with Bellec. We all know how this one plays out. I love how this shot catches Arno off guard, it’s like he didn’t know that camera was on while taking a pee. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! - What we want from the AC Franchise in 2020
Article by Mieke Dix - What we want from the Assassin's Creed Franchise in 2020. Community The Assassin's Creed Community are raising money for Ocean Conservancy. Donate today Articles What we want to see from the Assassin's Creed Franchise in 2020 Save 10% on officially licensed Assassin's Creed Origins merchandise with the code "TOWCB" Top Stories 29/12/19 By Mieke Dix Edited by Ashlea Buckley Share 5. Assassin’s Creed 1, Version 2.0 This is effectively a repeat from last year’s list which is why it’s first on this one, but it’s just as relevant. The game that started it all has yet to receive a remaster on current-gen platforms, unlike every other previous-gen title. Sure, there are plenty who dislike it due to its gameplay being simplistic and repetitive, particularly in comparison to the later games, but that doesn’t make Altaïr’s story any less compelling. It’s definitely a game that would benefit from a significant technical overhaul instead of merely an aesthetic one, which may well explain why they haven’t remastered it yet - or just won’t bother. However, whether we’ll be seeing this anytime soon or not is unclear, so all we can do is once again cross our fingers that it’ll feature in the upcoming UbiE3 lineup. 4. Next Instalment Announced With all the leaks and rumors that have been abounding on the internet this year, it’s somewhat inevitable that Ubisoft’s E3 press conference in June will feature a teaser trailer for the next game, at the very least. What’s less certain is whether Ubisoft will announce the game for release this year on current-gen only, or wait until 2021 when they can release it on the new Xbox and PS5, whether that’s a dual-release or next-gen only. This is where we can only hope that, if they are planning a dual-release, Ubisoft thoroughly learned their lesson following the disaster that was Rogue/Unity’s release. Whatever the case, we fully expect there to be a new main series title announced at some point in the coming year. 3. The Symphony on CD The Assassin’s Creed Symphony was a wonderful celebration of the many composers who have been a part of the franchise since its inception and their beautiful, emotive music. I personally attended the performance in London (and probably cried 90% of the time). Each game’s soundtrack was arranged into an excellently-composed suite which showcased the music at its best. What would be greatly appreciated, doubly so by those who couldn’t get a ticket for whatever reason, is an album of the arrangements for us to enjoy at our leisure. Of course, what would also be appreciated is an announcement that the Symphony will become an annual event visiting more locations worldwide, or even a series of concerts that would allow for even more arrangements of each soundtrack….! Wait, where was I? 2. Creed-Con 2020? Something that was evident by the response to the Symphony - mainly the rapidity at which it sold tickets - is that there really is a market for official Assassin’s Creed events and experiences. That’s not to say that we demand an official Assassin’s Creed convention or anything, but there is plenty of scope for other events. (I mean, a convention also sounds freaking awesome). The community already organises a fair amount of events of their own accord, but to be able to pull all that passion under one, officially-endorsed roof would be grand. For example: the Symphony becoming a regular event could be a good start. It could be the perfect headline act of a convention, or even a one/two-day festival of celebration for the franchise, especially if it was then streamed live for all to enjoy. 1. A Return to its Roots I plan on getting a bit more in depth about this at some point, but let’s face facts: the series is nothing like it was in the beginning. This isn’t actually a bad thing, and Origins and Odyssey are both fantastic games. However, the criticism that neither game feels like Assassin’s Creed is entirely fair, and there is a good deal of worry that the series will just continue to stray further and further from where it began, until it’s purely Assassin’s Creed by name only. Hopefully we can see a return of the rooftop-skulking, shadow-lurking assassins that we all came to love, and less of the colossal maps half-full of empty space. We love naval combat because it’s fun, fast-paced and exhilarating, but we also love balancing precariously on window ledges four storeys up as we stalk a Templar far below, ready to dive gracefully into the nearest hay bale and wait for the perfect moment to strike. Now that is Assassin’s Creed at its heart, and we desperately want that back. - Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Third Expansion Teased at Ubisoft Forward E3 Event | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed Valhalla: Third Expansion Teased at Ubisoft Forward E3 Event News Share 16 Jun 2021 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database E3 2021 kicked off with Ubisoft Forward, an hour-long event where Ubisoft showcased a number of upcoming titles. The show featured a glimpse at several new impressive looking games, such as Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Extraction and Avatar Frontiers of Pandora. Fans of Assassin's Creed were given a first look at the Siege of Paris expansion, which is set to launch in Summer 2021. It was announced that Black Box Missions (from Unity and Syndicate) would be returning, suggesting that players will be infiltrating hideouts to eliminate targets in the DLC. Assassin's Creed Valhalla Discovery Tour was also revealed, a combat-free historical tool that explores the ordinary lives of those living in 9th Century Britain, and provides educational resources for those looking to learn more about the era. A new game mode titled 'Mastery Challenges' also made an appearance (out now), along with the highly-requested one-handed sword options, which will be added to the game over the coming weeks. Basim's robes cemented Ubisoft's dedication to Valhalla free content, as the company looks to keep players engaged for longer with 'live games' that continuously release new features. As the section on Assassin's Creed came to a close, Ubisoft teased that Valhalla will be getting a second year of live content, including unannounced expansions and many more surprises. It is currently unknown if a second season pass purchase will be required to access the year 2 content. The short teaser for the third Assassin's Creed Valhalla DLC hinted that Odin would return to confront Eivor, and that a new realm would be accessible. Seeing the teaser for the first time, you could be forgiven in thinking it was a glimpse at an upcoming Elder Scrolls game, as it resembles the gates featured in TES IV Oblivion. At the end of the show, Yves Guillemot reflected on a 'difficult year' for the company, but failed to acknowledge the elephant in the room. After a full year of misconduct allegations and investigations within the company, his message missed the mark, and felt hollow for many fans. This really was disappointing, but overall, it was a pretty good show that showcased a nice range of upcoming games. It's an exciting time to be an Assassin's Creed fan, with year 2 of Valhalla content and a ton of transmedia material such as a Netflix TV show (Transmedia Roadmap article) to look forward to. As always, we stand with the victims, and the AC Sisterhood / #HoldUbisoftAccountable movements. - Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC New Teaser Breakdown | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC New Teaser Breakdown Breakdown Share 30 Aug 2025 Written By: Edited By: Zephryss Colum Blackett Back To Database Ubisoft has finally revealed the release date for Assassin's Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji DLC, which is launching on September 16, 2025. They have also shared a brand-new short teaser for the DLC. Here is the full breakdown of the new teaser. In the opening scene you can see a mysterious character from behind, holding a kanabo. He wears a dark red armored outfit with gold shell-like patterns on the sleeves. The symbol on the back of the character in the image appears to resemble a stylized wood grain pattern, which is highly likely to be a mon (family crest or emblem), a traditional Japanese symbol used to represent clans, families, or organizations. The pattern looks natural and abstract, evoking the look of topographic lines or swirling wood grain, which might symbolize strength, nature, or lineage. The 2nd scene shows a dark, shadowy figure crouching on a tree branch in the middle of a forest at night. This could be a member of the new enemy faction, Sanzoku Ippa. Moonlight shines through the trees, lighting up the figure just enough to reveal their armor and a curved weapon in hand. The enemy looks ready to strike or watch from above, hidden in the darkness. In the 3rd scene a person is seen running through a forest path, unaware that he's triggering a tripwire trap stretched across the ground. The wire is connected to trees on both sides and is barely visible in the dim lighting. In the bottom image, the trap has been activated, an explosion erupts in the background with sparks and flames bursting out violently. This trap appears to have been set by the new enemy faction, Sanzoku Ippa. In the 4th scene Naoe is fighting with two enemies. She is flipping over two enemies while holding a long staff weapon called a Bo. This seems to be a new skill that lets her attack while jumping through the air. In the 5th and final scene, Naoe shows her hidden blade to a mysterious woman, who immediately recognizes her and calls her by name. It looks like Naoe has finally found her mother, Tsuyu, in the Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC. Also, check out our full review of the new Summer Roadmap for Assassin's Creed Shadows. Assassin's Creed Revelations: a Fitting Finale Analysis Share 17 Apr 2025 Written By: Edited By: Hayden Bird Colum Blackett Back To Database When Assassin’s Creed Revelations released worldwide back in 2011, it made an impact on the series as a great conclusion to the “Ezio Trilogy”, which is a collection of three games released in a row featuring the fan-favorite protagonist, Ezio Auditore, who had his entire story told throughout three mainline entry games. Gamers follow Ezio from birth, literally, until his older age. His story began in 2009’s Assassin's Creed II and continued with Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in 2010 and ended his journey with Revelations , which was then concluded in the short animation titled Assassin's Creed: Embers. While Assassin’s Creed Revelations is by no means perfect, it was a very satisfying end to such a renowned trilogy, and wrapped up Ezio Auditore’s story nicely and did his character justice with such a strong finale. Revelations tried to be different than its predecessors by adding in unique gameplay elements, such as a new tower defence feature minigame, the addition of crafted bombs to take on or lure enemies, and even an upgrade to the famous hidden blade, a weapon that defines an Assassin, which was called the “hook blade” that offered gamers a faster way to scale buildings or take down enemies with style. While some of these additions were welcomed by fans, others were not, specifically the tower defence minigame, but the game’s brilliant story and narrative direction made up for that, and then some. Revelations had a unique storyline where it not only continued and told the story of Ezio, but also told the story of the franchise’s first protagonist, Altair Ibn La’Ahad, and the direction his life took him after the events of the very first game until his old age. The combination of two fan-favorite protagonists was a beloved feature that fans easily appreciated. It was a unique and creative narrative element that really turned the game into the great memory it is today. Having two characters and their story coincide really impacted the story and the emotional turns it took. This new feature worked out perfectly and as it told two separate stories, they were both connected narratively. That was seriously impressive from a creative standpoint, as the ability to mix two storylines at once but have them both connected really made fans love Revelations , despite whatever flaws it may have had. Revelations also took us on an adventure to Constantinople for the first time, which brought with it connections to the famed Ottoman Empire. This was a welcome time period that fans enjoyed. It was also creatively genius to explore a location outside of Italy, as that is where the past two games took place. It worked out perfectly to explore a different part of the world while not jeopardizing the story and the journey Ezio took. It likely was a narrative gamble that Ubisoft took, as they had to make the location work even if the previous two games relied heavily on Italian culture and lifestyle. To branch out of this familiar setting and completely nail it was great work from Ubisoft, and showed that they were willing to take a gamble to please gamers around the globe. Revelations also focused on the Assassin recruitment ability, where you could use and train your own personal apprentices to help in combat or quietly take down nearby enemies to help you sneak around and complete the mission. This was a very unique and tactical option that expanded on the previous game’s similar feature, but made it better in every aspect. Sometimes it is useful having extra help against a large number of enemies and apprentices that could develop and achieve higher ranks in the brotherhood to make your apprentices more powerful and more durable against tougher enemies. This feature was certainly a welcome addition to the already great Revelations . Assassin’s Creed Revelations also added a fun multiplayer game mode option. It was an improvement on the previous game and was a complete upgrade in every aspect. The online feature was not used by everyone, but it offered variety for fans who loved and finished the main story and had something extra to do, or gamers in general who prefer online games and had the ability to experience online features in the unique format that the Assassin’s Creed games offered. It was a fun feature to the game that remained available even several years after the game’s lunch until it somewhat recently shut down for good. Some fans do not remember that Assassin’s Creed Revelations was originally planned to be created as a Nintendo 3DS game until Ubisoft realized the potential their idea had as a mainline game and the formerly planned 3DS game was quietly cancelled in favor of the game we know and love today. Ubisoft made a smart choice scrapping the original 3DS plans to focus on a mainline game as the story they had in mind was far too good to be limited to a handheld device, and instead fit perfectly in the mainline story of all the games in the series. While Revelations certainly has its flaws, its plot and perfect ending to Ezio’s story made it a beloved adventure that fans still enjoy to this day, and its legacy will undoubtedly live on. There were a lot of factors that went into the creation of this game, and smart choices that the developers made in order to let Revelations reach its full potential. As imperfect as it may be considered, there is no doubt it became an emotional and fitting end to such a great story from such a beloved character in Ezio Auditore. It truly became a fitting finale. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Assassin's Creed Shadows: Developer Insights on Story Details & Naoe Background Analysis. Analysis Share 20 Dec 2024 Written By: Edited By: UbiCypher (Joe) Colum Blackett Back To Database Two months left, that is all that separates us from wandering across the majestic scenery Assassin's Creed Shadows is ought to deliver us with the long-awaited setting of Feudal Japan, most specifically in the Sengoku Period (AKA Era of the warring states) or Azuchi-Momoyama period. Yesterday, Entertainment Weekly released information pertaining the upcoming Assassin's Creed protagonist; Naoe Fujibayashi exclusively revealed by Ubisoft's Québec's developer and Assassin's Creed Shadows director Jonathan Dumont, strongly emphasizing on Naoe's role on satisfying the Ninja-Assassin fantasy that many fans of stealth and back-to-the-roots-like gameplay are craving for. Naoe as seen in the official CGI trailer for Assassin's Creed Shadows via Ubisoft.com The Assassin from Iga “She will start a bit of a path of vengeance or fulfilling a promise that she made to her family” -Jonathan Dumont. The story of the game, as many of you already know if you have been following our threads or simply out of curiosity for history, will be taking place in the 1570's when the Portuguese Jesuits aiming to expand their religion in the spiritually unconquered lands of Japan already have a strong foot in their culture, having made many alliances to stay ahead of the curve in Europe's political theatre at that time, securing import-export trade routes and influencing many Daimyos across the islands, a perfect fit for the Templars that, by then, were attempting to expand their ideology in other parts of the world after their numerous defeats at the hands of the Assassins in Europe. Unbeknownst to her, Naoe is apparently descended from a long line of Assassins similarly to many other characters in the franchise , this knowledge hidden to her by her father , Nagato, apparently connected to the Assassins in some way or in this case, maybe her mother who according to Dumont "She doesn’t know much about her origins. Her father’s been training her, but she doesn’t know much about her mother, who’s been gone." Possibly being the missing link, this enigma may only to be solved when the game is finally released as he declined to give more details on the story surrounding her involvement with the Brotherhood however, he did comment on her discovery of such an heritage as "She will start a bit of a path of vengeance or fulfilling a promise that she made to her family, but she discovers a world in need, she begins to really value the community values her father taught." Clearly teasing the core moral values tied to the Brotherhood and the self-development process one goes through upon understanding the motives of the Creed, setting aside personal goals for the greater good. Naoe and her father Nagato as seen in the official CGI trailer for Assassin's Creed Shadows via Ubisoft.com A Story Tailored By Her Equipment “She is pushed into war and as a cool proverb from Japan says, a frog in a well knows nothing of the sea." - Jonathan Dumont. According to Jonathan Dumont's description of Naoe's use of her gadgets to navigate through Japan amidst the warring clans, all the equipment is tied to a moment of her life and backstory which we will see in the game as she develops and becomes stronger as we progress through the game's narrative and while upgrading her character, he also mentioned how important the Hidden Blade will from a symbolic point of view, stating that "The Hidden Blade is given by her father, and we're going to learn a little bit more what that means" possibly assisting to her initiation or some kind of similar induction into the Brotherhood given her Ninja training that is also heavily rooted in doctrine. Official concept art for Naoe's hidden blade by Ubisoft Naoe's hope for the future of Japan: Junjiro "Can she make a better world?" -Jonathan Dumont. The name itself having many different meanings due to the complexity of the Kanjis and their subsequent variations depending on context and phrasing, we'll go with the one that aligns the most with what Naoe sees in this boy that will be part of the story as revealed by Dumont in the interview hinting at his importance in the plot, which in this case could be "Pure, Unpretentious or To be in one's natural state." With little to go by except that "He's the future Naoe hopes Japan will be" . We'll have to stay on the lookout for more information regarding this boy that will have some degree of importance throughout Naoe's journey and maybe self-growth for that matter. - Best Quotes in Assassin's Creed Odyssey | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Best Quotes in Assassin's Creed Odyssey Share Written By: Edited By: Reporter Name Back To Database Welcome to a new series written by TOWCB Team, outlining our favourite quotes from the franchise. For some, Odyssey is a controversial game for numerous reasons, such as the decision to introduce two playable characters, or even the fact that is set before the time of Assassin's Creed Origins, making it a prequel to a prequel. That said, the game still has a dedicated following. It is unapologetic, and plays around with a new brand of fun different from anything else we have seen in the franchise, focussing on player choice and dialogue options. Fans love Kassandra and Alexios, so for the quotes selected below, we have gone with the canon version of events to avoid confusion. ''I was protecting my brother because you wouldn't!'' Breaking News: Assassin's Creed Shadows delayed until February 2025 News Share 25 Sept 2024 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) TOWCB Team Back To Database Ubisoft has today announced that Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed by 142 days, with a new release date set for 14th February 2025. The delay follows a period of turbulence for the company, after a so-far lacklustre marketing campaign featured some questionable and controversial decisions which have led to online backlash. This week, it was announced that Ubisoft would not participate in Tokyo Game Show 2024, releasing a statement which said that the company were withdrawing due to 'various circumstances'. This would have been a major opportunity for the company to showcase their upcoming title. This led some to speculate that this decision was due to mounting online backlash regarding a recently revealed PureArts collectable which features a traditional gate known as a Torii (Shinto religion) broken in half, the symbolism of which is often linked to the Nagasaki bombing. One such gate exists known as the Sannō Shrine which bears a striking resemblance to the one used in the figurine. This marketing decision has been perceived to be disrespectful to Japanese history and people, leading to increased calls online to prevent the game from launching at all. Following Ubisoft's decision to withdraw from Tokyo Game Show, Journalist Tom Henderson revealed that his sources inside Ubisoft had confirmed that the company would also not be providing media previews of Assassin's Creed Shadows, a major indicator that something was wrong. As expected, nothing AC was shown at Playstation's State of Play event, but the internet knew that something was going on behind the scenes at Ubisoft. At 5pm today, Ubisoft officially revealed that Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed until February 14th 2025 (Valentines Day) to give the team the opportunity to polish and refine the experience. The game will launch on a variety of platforms at launch, including Steam, and all previous pre-orders will be refunded. New pre-orders will also include the first expansion free of charge to compensate for the delay. Update (26/9/24) Stock Prices for Ubisoft have fallen to an 11 year low according to InsiderGaming , sitting at € 9.28 per share. The major drop in shares is a consequence of the decision to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows Update (27/9/24) Ubisoft has issued a statement confirming that Assassin's Creed Shadows wil l no longer be playable at PAX Australia, which will take place from the 11th - 13th October. We hope that the added time allows for Ubisoft to reflect and get the marketing campaign back on track. Stay tuned for all things Assassin's Creed Shadows here at The Ones Who Came Before. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. - Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Orlog Dice Game Review | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Orlog Dice Game Review Reviews Share 7 Mar 2022 Written By: Edited By: Michael Smith Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Assassin’s Creed has been a staple for the modern gaming community with its mixture of stealth, combat, and story driven gameplay. Players are immersed into history via interactions with important figures and landscapes, giving a large world to explore and learn about alongside the Assassin vs Templar storyline. Within these worlds players are exposed to the art, language, and culture of each location from Ancient Greece to Victorian London. To better influence the player’s experience of being in the Golden Age of Pirates or Revolutionary America, the design team included playable iterations of historical games such as Liar’s Dice and Dead Man’s Morris. The latest example of this is in the 2019 release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla where players were introduced to a new and original competitive dice game known as Orlog. Promotional image by PureArts Players are introduced to this game via protagonist Eivor and meet various characters across Viking-era England that challenge her to this game consisting of alternating dice rolls, resource management, and the power of the Norse Gods. A game that can turn its favor in an instant of luck and strategy. Orlog became an instant success with the player base as fans began replicating the game in the real world. This showed Ubisoft that they had an opportunity to create an actual version of the game and via the help of the gaming statue company PureArts this became a reality. In the Spring of 2021, an exclusive limited Deluxe Edition of Orlog was created. A combination of wood, metal, and linen were used to design a tangible game, of which a limited 500 units were sold within Northern and Southern America. This did not take long to sell through and those that were lucky enough to claim one (myself included) would receive one of the most unique real world replicas of a video game asset. However, fans from around the world who missed out on this purchase were upset that they were unable to buy this themselves and voiced their opinions across social media. With this spike of global interest, the PureArts team opened a Kickstarter to fund a retail version of the game for all fans regardless of geographical region. On July 13, 2021, the Kickstarter for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Orlog Dice Game was launched and within 35 minutes met its goal of CA $75,000. By the end of the campaign, a total 12,409 backers had funded the campaign for a total of 1.1 million Canadian, unlocking multiple stretch goals and enhancing the base game (for the Kickstarter) to be nearly identical to the Deluxe Edition that had been sold earlier that year. After a lengthy production process due to issues with materials, transportation, and the COVID-19 virus, PureArts began shipping Orlog to players around the world. I myself received mine within a few weeks of each other as they were shipped separately, the Deluxe Edition first and later the Kickstarter “Tavern Edition”, which included an exclusive resin replica of Eivor’s horn, used to call her raiding party as they invaded England. The game is played in three phases after a coin-flip to determine the first player. In the first phase, much like the dice game Yahtzee, players alternate rolling six dice and selecting dice to attack, defend, or steal God Favour Tokens (GFT's) from the opponent in the hopes of lowering their opponent’s fifteen stone health pool to zero. This is followed by the players being able to use their collected GFT's via gold bordered dice sides and stealing from the opponent to activate a God Favour Card (GFC's) that can deal damage, heal, or even duplicate the dice they rolled to give a better advantage in the round. Once this is selected and the priority of the GFC's is played, the players enter the final round, the Resolution phase where the outcome of their dice rolls are matched against each other in a battle of axes, armour, arrows, and shields. The player that has depleted their opponent’s health to zero is declared the victor. I played both iterations of the Orlog release with my family to compare the quality of the Kickstarter enhanced retail version and the Deluxe Edition. Gameplay was easy to explain with the included instructions and a variety of game modes to alter the difficulty of the game. Within a few rounds, my fiancée, who is not a heavy gamer, shared how much she enjoyed the game. I found myself surprised by my comparison and which aspects of each version I preferred over the other. So let's compare the Deluxe and the Kickstarter Editions as I determine which is the best Orlog release. Packaging To start, let's compare the boxes. The Kickstarter Edition was the standard Retail release of the game but with enhanced materials included (such as stones, tokens, and cards). The box itself has nice official game art and is themed to the Valhalla standard teal and black, detailing the contents of the game and a synopsis of how it is played; a traditional game packaging. The Deluxe Edition came in a carved, individually numbered (1-500), wooden case that shows the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla logo within an intricate etched border and secured by a metal clasp. There is no further information on the game displayed on the box as it is a designer piece. WINNER: Deluxe Edition - the beautiful wood box looks great on the shelf for collectors. Storage The Retail Edition has a traditional plastic tray that houses the materials of the game. Each area is designed to hold half of the pieces divided between the players with a shared coin in the centre, making distributing the game pieces quick and easy. The Deluxe Edition does the same but in a much more snug foam material. WINNER : Retail Edition - the plastic, while a lesser quality than the foam, is much easier to remove the components from, as it has space to grab the pieces, whereas it takes more time to remove the wood and metal pieces from the foam of the Deluxe Edition. Dice Bowls The dice bowls in the Retail and Kickstarter versions are made of plastic and detailed to look like wood. Due to the Kickstarter reaching a stretch goal of CA $575K, they were able to add a felt liner, as backers were concerned with the sound of dice hitting the plastic. While this is a nice addition, it is visible that the felt was not cut to size and looks poorly installed. The Deluxe Edition bowl is real wood and has a great quality but doesn’t appear as defined in the detail as it was carved by machine and not by hand. WINNER: Tied - While the wood of the Deluxe Edition is higher quality, the plastic bowl and felt liner have nice sound and feel when rolling the dice. I prefer the wood myself but wish it had the detail of the plastic. Coin The Retail Edition of Orlog will include a cardboard coin (not shown) to determine player order. Both the Kickstarter (after meeting the CA $200K stretch goal), and the Deluxe Edition have a metal replica coin designed after the Silver from the game. WINNER: Kickstarter/Deluxe Edition - The metal has a very nice weight and feel to it over the cardboard that I could compare from other pieces in the game. God Favour Cards In my opinion, this is the biggest comparison between the game pieces of different versions of Orlog. In the Retail Edition, the GFC's are printed on cardboard showing great detail of a carved wood design and a cheat sheet of what each god does on the back. For the Deluxe Edition, wooden GFC's are included to mirror those which are used in the video game version. Kickstarter backers were able to upgrade their GFC's to wood (CA $35) after feedback from the players influenced PureArts. WINNER: Retail Edition - While the wood is nicer than the cardboard, it is very hard to see the image of each god in the Deluxe Edition, and requires the use of the included detail card that shows each GFC and what it does. Being able to flip over the card and read right away what it does is a plus. God Favour Tokens Unlike the GFC', the tokens are instantly identifiable regardless of edition. The Kickstarter backers upgraded (CA $42) the Retail Edition’s cardboard tokens to the Deluxe Edition’s metal tokens. The only drawback to the metal tokens is that they have a finish to them that make them oily and hard to stack at times. WINNER : Deluxe Edition - While the finish can be annoying at times, the metal tokens are very nice and look great. I love clinking them like poker chips when I play. Dice Now this section isn’t as much of a comparison as both the Retail and Deluxe Editions of the Orlog dice are sold with the Bone Die option. With the Kickstarter, a stretch goal at CA $300k allowed backers to switch the base dice to a glow-in-the-dark option for free, or add them on at the end of the campaign for CA $15. However these dice though are difficult to read because of the golden borders. Alternatively, the green glittery dice or “Valhalla Dice” were sold as an add-on for CA $25. WINNER : Kickstarter - Due to the options available, the Kickstarter was the best way to get dice. My personal favourite were the Valhalla Dice. Health Stones & Rules The original plan for Orlog was to include cardboard counters to track the health of each player, however after the Kickstarter reached its first stretch goal of CA $100K, the counters were upgraded to the higher quality polished stones of the Deluxe Edition. This success also allowed the retail edition to be shipped with these stones. The linen bags with the Valhalla logo were included with the Deluxe Edition as well as the Kickstarter after its CA $250K stretch goal was reached. These are used to house the health stones in the packaging. All versions come with an Instruction Guide and God Favor Cards Reference List. Kickstarter Exclusive Items With the exception of the play mat that was included in the Deluxe Edition, the Kickstarter campaign for Orlog offered multiple items for purchase via stretch goals or included with the Tavern Edition. The playmat (55 cm x 86 cm) was expanded in size after the CA $850k stretch goal and sold (for those that just backed the base game or wanted multiple mats) for CA $30. This is a beautiful mat that feels fitting for the historical setting. The main draw for the Tavern Edition of the Kickstarter campaign, and the reason I decided to purchase the game after buying the Deluxe Edition, was an exclusive Horn Replica from the game. Valued and sold for CA $185, the horn made the purchase of The Tavern Edition at $200 great value for money. Its quality of resin, cloth, and wooden base not only look fantastic on my shelf but actually allow you to blow the horn and call your party to the table. At CA $400K a tournament bracket and Orlog Champion Coin (based on the in-game achievement art) were provided to all backers. Edition Winner The best value and version overall in my opinion would be the Kickstarter. Being able to upgrade the various game pieces on top of the Tavern Edition with the horn replica and playmat included, allowed users to have everything that the limited Deluxe Edition had except for the wooden box and bowls. This game as a whole is easy to play and easy to learn. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Orlog Dice Game can be purchased from PlayArts, Ubisoft, and various retailers. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Aguilar de Nerha Pop! Figure This pop figure is among some of the easiest Pop! figures to get hold of. It is accessible in most Pop! stores and online through sites such as Ebay and Amazon. Amazon: Link Assassin's Creed Movie Callum Lynch Pop! Figure As with the Aguilar Pop! Callum is fairly easy to find in stores and online from Ebay, Amazon and Pop In A Box. Amazon: Link Maria Pop! Amazon: Link The Games Ezio Auditore da Firenze (aka Col_96's main man) Pop! However, as seen below, the different variations of this pop vinyl are more rare. Amazon: Link Merchandise Ezio Pop! Figure - Eagle Vision This Ezio Pop! shows the use of eagle vision and therefore is a little more rare than the Original Ezio Figure. However it is still fairly accessible on Ebay and Amazon, and the average price does not appear drastically more expensive than the standard Pop! vinyls at around £15-20. Amazon: Link Ezio Pop! Figure - Black Robes This Pop figure is much less readily available and therefore would be a prize piece in any avid Assassin's Creed fan's collection. However having this gem in your display will not come cheap as this Pop! figure sells for anywhere between £70-£130 on Ebay, and cannot be found on many other sites. Plague Doctor Pop! Figure This is a rare figure from the Assassin's Creed multiplayer mode in Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. Due to the niche nature of this Pop! there are fewer available to buy. This pop is often only found on sites such as Ebay and for prices around £35-70. Connor (Ratonhnhaké:ton) Pop! Figure Connor's Pop! figure is a little more difficult to find on main sites such as Amazon where the figure will cost around £50-60. However more appear to be available on Ebay for a slightly lower price of around £20-40. Amazon: Link Aveline De Grandpré Pop! Figure This Assassin's Creed Liberation figure is again a little more difficult to locate and will often fetch a higher than standard price. This figure can be found on Ebay for around £30+ and on Amazon for anywhere between £40-£120! Amazon: Link Edward Kenway Pop! Figure This Pop! figure is one of the more difficult to obtain, Edward can be located on sites such as Pop in a Box, Amazon and Ebay however for a high price. Amazon lists this Pop at around £90 whilst on Ebay it can be found for closer to £60. Amazon: Link Arno Dorian Pop! Figure This figure is much easier to access than those from AC3, however it is priced slightly higher than a standard pop vinyl at around £18-27 on both Amazon and Ebay. Amazon: Link Élise de la Serre Pop! Figure Again, as with Arno, this figure is not too difficult to find but the price is a little higher than the average Pop vinyls on Amazon at around £23. However, Ebay does show some pops priced at closer to £10 as well as some at £20-25. Amazon: Link Evie Frye Pop! Figure This pop figure is easy to find and reasonably priced at around £10-15 on both Ebay and Amazon. Jacob Frye Pop! Figure As with Evie, this Pop! figure is easy to locate on both Amazon and Ebay, as well as sites such as Pop in a Box and in pop stores. This figure is usually sold for around £10-£15. Amazon: Link Jacob Frye - Uncloaked This Pop! figure is harder to locate than the standard Jacob Frye Pop and as with the variations of Ezio, this pop fetches a higher price than the original model but the price is still only slightly higher than standard at around £20. Amazon: Link Which Pop! Figure would you like to see next? Bayek concept art by Deviant Art user Undi3sss Eivor Standard Edition This Funko Pop was revealed during the virtual FunkoFair 2021 that aired during the annual ToyFair event. It features one axe and a hidden blade, so you can summon your inner Viking, or work alongside the Hidden Ones for a stealthier approach. Amazon: Link Eivor (Gamestop Edition) The double axe variant of Eivor is exclusive to Gamestop, and was also revealed at FunkoFair2021. This version of Eivor demonstrates the duel wielding ability, that was a key focus of the game's marketing campaign. Two axes are better than one!
