Importance of Assassin's Creed Mirage's Upcoming DLC News Share 10 Sept 2025 Written By: Edited By: Hayden Bird Colum Blackett Back To Database Announced recently back in late August of this year, one of the more recent Assassin’s Creed games, Assassin’s Creed Mirage , got a surprise announcement that the game, which was released back in October of 2023, would be getting a free DLC, which stands for downloadable content, that is in development and will be available to gamers across the globe in the near future. Promo image for the upcoming expansion, showing Basim's new outfit This news is an unexpected treat for fans of the series as originally Assassin’s Creed Mirage was set to be a game without any major post-launch expansions. Mirage was a smaller-scale game that was created to honor the 15th anniversary of the franchise and in many ways return to its roots by bringing back classic gameplay mechanics and a formula the series used years ago before it received a major reboot back in 2017. There are still a large number of fans who prefer the old formula the franchise used to follow, so giving the community a game that honors its past but also includes elements of the present and future games made it a fan-favorite addition to the series. Assassin’s Creed Mirage was set to tell its story and be complete already, but with this surprising news of the upcoming DLC, gamers will most certainly dive back into Mirage as the game offered plenty of content to explore even after the main story’s completion. Mirage was seen as a small-scale game in the series but now is turning into much more. The news that this DLC is free is welcoming news as a lot of DLC story expansions are paid, and not free. The paid ones usually range from $10 or upwards to $20 and even sometimes a lot more. So having a game with free expansions is a great gesture from Ubisoft to its fans. Since the DLC will be free, it offers a lot of possibilities for Ubisoft to watch the player count and popularity vastly increase now that they know fans won't need to be skeptical on whether or not to spend the extra money to buy and experience the DLC. Whereas now, instead they can offer it to all gamers worldwide and anyone can experience it without the decision of having to spend to play and own it. Basim in Assassin's Creed Mirage Assassin’s Creed Mirage became a beloved game in the series because it catered to fans from both viewpoints of the franchise. Those who prefer the classic formula and those who love the updated style. Mirage includes both elements of classic and newer formulas as a combination that was sure to satisfy fans from both different opinions. The game was a focal point of the extensive marketing campaign Ubisoft started in 2023 to promote and celebrate the 15 years that the series has been around for. While the celebrations were dedicated to all the games, Mirage served as the best part of the marketing campaign that honored the franchise's rich history all while satisfying fans of all kinds and bringing the series and community together as a whole. The fact that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will have a DLC is also a surprise to the fact that the game seemed to be a done deal and a part of the past now that the brand new game in the series, Assassin’s Creed Shadows is out and accompanied by a DLC of its own along with future announced games to continue the series on the way. So it felt like Mirage was complete and set to be moved on from, but recent news has proven this idea incorrect, as Ubisoft is showing great attention to a game that's turning two years old next month in October. Video games that are released years prior often do not get the attention Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to receive in the near future. This reversal in opinion from Ubisoft shows they have listened closely to their fanbase and have come to believe that the story and existence of Assassin’s Creed Mirage is far from over. As fans, we can all be thankful to the developers at Ubisoft for changing course from their previous decisions and that they are showing attention to this beloved game even years after its release, and giving fans a true surprise that this highly anticipated DLC will be completely free to all gamers. The idea and reality of a free unpaid major expansion is less common in today's age of gaming, and really shows that Ubisoft is listening to their fans and giving the players a seriously exciting project to look forward to without the need of spending their own money toward it. This DLC is welcome news and another exciting project in the Assassin’s Creed franchise that fans can continue to anticipate the bright future of this franchise for years to come. The Future of Assassin’s Creed at UbiForward 2023 Part 4 - Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay Trailer Breakdown Share 18 Jun 2023 Written By: Edited By: Michael Smith Colum Blackett Back To Database Banner by Thea Marie Rivedal (Moonchildgecko) from TOWCB Art Team. Welcome to the forth and final part in our series breaking down all of the Assassin's Creed content presented at Ubisoft Forward 2023. In part four, we take a look at Assassin's Creed Mirage Gameplay Trailer reveal! Related articles: The Future of Assassin’s Creed at UbiForward 2023 Part 1 - Pre-Show & Assassin's Creed Nexus The Future of Assassin’s Creed at UbiForward 2023 Part 2 - Assassin's Creed Codename Jade The Future of Assassin’s Creed at UbiForward 2023 Part 3 - Assassin's Creed Mirage Story Trailer The AC Mirage Gameplay Walkthrough opens above the streets of Baghdad with what appears to be the Great Mosque of al-Mansur. The developers show with this space alone that the map of the round city of Baghdad has been changed for the game from its historical reference. This is mainly due to the space in the center of the city around the building being a lot more dense with flora and gardens, where in historical images, the space around was much more empty. Basim looks at a Wanted poster for himself that reads “Cutthroat (Killer/Murderer) Wanted for Justice”. These posters are part of the game’s notoriety system and the first time since Assassin’s Creed Revelations that we have had the multi-tier system. With previous trailers also showing city criers, we should see a similar system with posters, payoffs, and dispatching authoritative figures being the way to lower your wanted level in game. A short montage of scenes follow, with Basim running from the Caliphate, and parkouring over a stack of wood. A corner assassination where Basim helps align this guard's neck and drags his body away from view. Lastly, we see the Assassin performing a Leap of Faith from within the second ring of the city walls. Basim on horseback galloping through a flock of ostriches, a new animal in the Assassin’s Creed series. Could these animals provide crafting or trade materials? Their features, meat, and bone could provide monetary gain or be used for the blowgun we see later on, similar to the blow darts in AC IV: Black Flag. Basim runs across a rope over the streets. The layered carpets over and under the awning of this building could represent a shop, possibly the tailors for new outfit dyes, or maybe to get decorations for the bureau, like how Edward and Ezio would purchase art for their own bases. Basim rowing a wooden boat through the city canals with nearby civilians going on with their daily tasks. This image alone provides a great sense of the life that we will see in this dense city. Who knows what kind of chatter we will be able to hear and learn from. Rumors, arguments, comments? I think of Origins and the lines of dialogue that were recorded to make the city stand on its own. Basim takes a pause in front of the ziggurat of Dur-Kurigalzu , west of the city of Baghdad. While this may appear to be a large landmass, it actually housed a city with temples before being abandoned in the 12th Century BCE. Could we have an opportunity to explore the ruins, or will they be occupied by factions, or even the Order of the Ancients? This set of shots could be from the same scene, where Basim and friend Nehal appear one after the other. Is this a reunion? Basim standing behind the flame of a brazier is drawing the attention to him. Did he just appear before Nehal, and if so, is she happy to see him, or upset at seeing his Assassin’s garb? Is this where she asks, “Swallow your questions. Serve without complaint. Who is she to tell you when to strike?” that we heard in the story trailer? More combat between Basim and the Caliphate guards. Kicking one away and countering another with a spin, kicking up sand. How many counter animations will we get to see? Will the sand be used to blind opponents like in AC II? More scenes of Basim with one where he rolls over the back of a Caliphate, the counter roll that we used in Valhalla and the Hook and Run in Revelations. Lastly, Basim releases his hidden blade before launching into a sprint assassination on a Caliphate guard from behind, ending the pre-roll before the gameplay begins. Gameplay begins in the streets of Baghdad. Basim’s current mission: Branching Out (located in the top left corner) is wrapping up and Basim must report to Roshan to complete it. The lush greenery and flowers are giving life to the brown and tan colored city. In the Developer Gameplay Breakdown (DGB) ( link ) Art Director, Jean-Luc Sala & Creative Director, Stéphane Boudon describe Baghdad as a “garden city”. Basim parkours across the balconies and beams on the right of the screen, stopping on top of a decorative rope to assassinate a target before sprinting from the nearby alerted guards. In the third image above, we see the player HUD for the first time. (From L-R, top to bottom) We see the mission details again, then the compass in the top-center, the player Health/Stamina bars and what appears to be this game's “rations” icon, a health tonic. Lastly, in the lower right we see the wanted system with three stages “Aware”, “Range Attack” and “Combat”. While these names are not the official titles for the system, it provides an idea of what we can expect. At Stage 1, enemies will be aware of you, the red “!” icon at the top of the HUD activating. At Stage 2, range based enemies will start looking for you and attacking, and at Stage 3, you will be hunted by the Caliphate. Basim makes a hard turn down a side street and pulls down a scaffolding, an obstacle that players may remember from previous AC titles. This results in a cinematic camera angle where the collapse kicks up a cloud of dust to hide Basim from the sight of the guards. While I do not believe that the camera change will be part of the game, and is used here for show, it would be interesting to see more cinematic angles if it doesn’t hinder the player experience or controls. Basim rushes up a stack of crates and uses the returning “corner swing” to turn without stopping, rushing across beams and up a roof where one of the new Marksman types sees the Assassin and draws his bow. Basim luckily drops out of sight and into the canal where he will jump to a zipline. Once he drops out of range, we get a better look at the compass and the various icons used to tell players where points of interest are. Before him we see the Assassin’s Emblem which indicates the nearby bureau within 43 m of Basim. To the far right we see two crossed swords, a blacksmith’s shop most likely as next to it are two sewing needles which have been used in the past for the tailors. To the right of the bureau icon and on the right of the screen we see an orange sun which is the marker for the current mission location. A classic way to locate an Assassin’s Bureau is the rooftop is the open air entry and nearby Assassin’s Emblem. Basim drops into the covered entry where we see multiple Assassins of different positions and a very lived-in environment. This is great for world building as previous entries felt barren. Basim enters the bureau to be greeted by Fuladh and Abu Jafar Muhammad with the Arabic greeting “Alhamdulillah” or “ praise be to God”. Abu Jafar is noted to be an historical figure in the DGB and from what I could locate, is most likely to be al-Tabari ( link ) a historian of the period. He will be in charge of your gear and creating new tools for players. Basim hands Fuladh the feather from his first assignment, the man who we saw him kill in the story trailer video; the man with the Golden Moustache Mask. In return, Abu Jafar provides a paper of some form, possibly further information on what they have learned in his absence, or possibly payment for his work as paper currency was used at the time in Asia. Basim joins Fuladh and Roshan at the map table where they inform Basim that they have been looking for new locations to erect Bureaus while he focused on Al-Ghul (the first assassination target, the Golden Moustache). Having found three districts that are unassuming. With this information, we now know that there are four potential bureaus minimum (including the one they are in) and four Order of the Ancient members (as we learned in the story trailer). It would be easy to suspect that we will have one OotA member per district, and I still believe that we will see at least eight members total. Two off-screen Assassins, Tabid and Rebekah have joined from Alamut and are splitting up to look into bureau locations in Al-Abbasiyah and Karkh. Al-Abbasiyah sounds like it may be home to the Abbasid Caliphate, and Karkh is western Baghdad. Fuladh also mentions traveling to Sharqiyah while Roshan goes to meet Rebekah in Karkh. Researching these names I got locations around the Middle East, but nothing definitive to Baghdad (except for Karkh). Abu Jafar invites Basim to look at his tools, where Basim is able to unlock the last of six tools. Starting from the highlighted orange tool, the Blowdart, in a clockwise order we have the smoke bomb, trap automaton, noisemaker, throwing knife, and torch at the top of the circle. The tutorial panel on the right informs you to wisely choose a tool to unlock, but that all tools can be unlocked later in the game. In the DGB we learn that each tool can be upgraded via a skill tree so there will be plenty of opportunity to strengthen your tools. Hovering over the Blowdart, we see a description of the tool, the ammo capacity, range, and duration. With the return of the tailors as seen on the compass, ammo patches will most likely be an upgradable option to purchase and unlock. Later in this trailer we see the sleep darts being used, from the DGB we know that damage darts (Poison) and Berserk darts will also be available? Once you select the tool to unlock, you will need to confirm your selection. After unlocking the Blowdart, Basim walks to the Contracts Board (labeled with a quill and parchment) where players will be able to find additional missions to unlock currency and materials to upgrade his tools. In the top left corner we see the three token types that are accumulated by completing these missions and their optional “Contractor Requests”. The pentagon bronze token is the “Power Favor Token” (as we see gained later on), the silver appears to be the “Assassin Favor Token” based on the use of a feather in its design, and the jade colored one the “City Favor Token” is assumed based on the building design. These lead me to believe we will have tokens for weapons, stealth, and environmental/social abilities or tool upgrades using them. One of our newest members @HiddenOnesN translated the text on the wall behind the contracts. Click her name to read the full thread on these. The highlighted contract, “The Bronze Mirror Heist” is presented with a hand reaching into a fortress with a silver color (as well as jade) as it is related to the Assassin Token. This appears to be the symbol for a stealth mission where you must steal an item, such as the Bronze Mirror. There is also a silver pair of swords over a pathway which is most likely an escort mission where we must defend a target. In orange we see the escort and the last contract type, a skull and Hidden Blade which is an obvious assassination contract. The reward for completing “The Bronze Mirror Heist” is 2x of a sword/bird icon (I assume ability points), 45x Components (crafting materials), and 1x Assassin Favor Token. IF the player also completes the mission without killing anyone, they meet the requirements for the Contractor Request and will unlock a second Assassin Favor Token as well as 65 Dirham (currency). We get a glance at the selected Assassination contract, “The Concubine” where Basim is tasked with killing whoever is holding one of the Caliph’s concubines, a rebel spy, hostage at the Prince’s Palace. This mission will reward a Power Favor Token, 45x Components, 135 Steel Ingots (materials to upgrade armor?) and if they do not take damage, additional rewards of a second Power Favor token and 65 Dirham will be provided. We transition to Basim using a bench to “Pass Time” as we have used in previous titles such as the RPG titles. He stands fromt he bench and moves forward to climb higher on the nearby wall to reach a vantage point over the city square. Basim calls Enkidu to look around the area, but his companion is shot down by a nearby Marksman and becomes unavailable until the enemy is removed from the area. This not only provides a challenge to the character, but is also a component of deciding how to complete a mission and which direction to take. After Basim performs a Leap of Faith to a haystack below, he crosses the square and climbs the second wall before him to activate his “Eagle Vision”. In Mirage’s style, the world is darkened in shadow while enemies are highlighted in red, and their vision cones are also displayed (a great addition as I always got confused on which way they faced). Treasure chests are highlighted in gold and hiding spots such as the haystack in the corner are shown in white (as all stealth options will be). Bassim drops down to a pile of flowers and walks swiftly to a group of civilians, telling them to act casual. This is a look at the return of Social Stealth, a key component that fans have been missing for quite some time. Outside of organic opportunities like this, we also learn from the DGB that you can pay merchants and groups to create additional stealth opportunities. As Basim hides we see the nearby guard walk past with a visible health and focus bar next to a difficulty indicator as we saw last in Valhalla. This guard appears to be inactive with the white diamond, but later we will see one that is on the offensive. Basim sneaks past the guard into a flowerbed where he equips his Blowdart and knocks out a nearby guard. We see from the tool wheel that players can track their ammo levels as well as assign three tools to “Quick Use” hotkeys on their keyboard/controller. This wheel will also slow down time to allow players time to make decisions (per the DGB). Basim dispatches the second guard and continues past the sandbags to another flowerbed underneath the Marksman that shot at Enkidu earlier. However, before he can reach the Marksman, he has a few more guards to take care of. Basim equips the Noisemaker and tosses it into the doorframe of the nearby entryway, the highlighted arch showing where it will land. The Noisemaker explodes with a loud snapping noise drawing the attention of the nearby guards. Basim kills the first and then a double assassination of the guard on the stairs with a throwing knife. We see here with the second guard, that there is a red bar under his difficulty indicator which shows that he is attacking. Basim climbs the tower, the wanted icon at the top now in yellow with a “?” showing that Basim’s location is unknown. The Marksman has a crossed out eagle icon (the Enkidu restriction) and a skull meaning that the guard is either a higher difficulty or still hunting for Basim. The Assassin performs a ledge assassination to kill the Marksman and is informed that Enkidu is available from use again. Enkidu takes off and shows Basim where his target is using the orange sun icon again as well as a gold chest icon on the right side of the roof. Basim reaches the ropes above his target and activates his Eagle Vision again, moving then into the new “Assassin Focus” where Basim can chain assassinate enemies. The gauge for this is shown with the five bars at the bottom of the screen. The controls will allow players to target up to five enemies and target them if needed before launching the attack. However, Basim must perform stealth kills to recharge it. This will trigger a series of ghostly assassinations as Basim movies like an apparition, teleporting to each kill. Basim arms and tosses a Trap automatron and then moves in for his assassination. Basim moves from the target kill to double assassinate a guard on the right before countering the guard on the left and breaking his focus. The heavy Caliphate guard at the entrance triggers the trap which appears to be poison. Basim runs past and turns at the staircase down towards two more guards and uses a smoke bomb to cloud the space in a red smoke as he escapes. Basim air assassinates a guard outside of the contract area, completing the Contractor Request of not taking damage and receives his rewards of a Power Favor Token, Components, Steel Ingots, and Dirham. The trailer ends with Basim blending into the crowd as the Caliphate hunts for him. We also see the red hand icon for Pickpocketing before the camera raises to the closing Mirage logo. This ends The Ones Who Came Before’s coverage of UbiForward. The AC Experience: Being a Background Actor in the Assassin's Creed Movie Events Share 4 Jul 2022 Written By: Edited By: Preston Carbonaro Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day. My casting agent had called me one afternoon, in late July 2015, saying that extras were needed for an upcoming historical science-fiction movie. Would I be interested? Although I had no idea which one she was referring to at that time, I did have an inkling; rumours had already been spreading that scenes from the upcoming Assassin's Creed film were to be shot in Malta. So, of course, I jumped at the opportunity. Actor's note: At this early stage, very little information is given to extras, and they’re not informed of the film's actual title, so as not to give anything away in case they are not able to commit to the project. The following week I was called in for my costume fitting. By then the rumours had been confirmed, and when it came to putting on my costume, it struck me: I am actually a part of this! I am actually going to be in an Assassin’s Creed film! Actor's note: While the whole costume process can be tedious for some, it is actually very fascinating to witness first-hand. The colours, materials, textiles, different costumes and props. The amount of work that goes into making each costume (most of which are tailor-made) is nothing short of remarkable! Filming day arrived in early September, I recall. The scene being filmed that day was the one in which Aguilar and Maria are manacled to wooden posts, freeing themselves shortly afterwards and then engaging in an epic, fiery skirmish with the Spanish soldiers. Being on set truly felt like an escape from the real world. The 18th century Fort Manoel located in Gżira, Malta, was transformed into 15th century Seville. Hundreds of people were there. The attention to detail was phenomenal. The atmosphere was electric. And yes, I was there among the crowd, cheering on, as the two Assassins were about to meet their fate. Just like in the games, I felt as if I’d stepped into the Animus and been transported to an ancestor’s memory. I was physically and mentally there. Actor's note: Did you know? A typical working day for a background actor in a movie is around 13 hours long! Our task was fairly simple. Upon the director's call “ACTION!”, we were to start walking out from the middle of the wooden bleachers, while shouting, cheering, and jeering with fists raised high in the air, and slowly surround the middle platform. Upon which the main sequence took place. Clad in all that material, and with multiple takes being shot, on a scorching hot summer day in Malta, was rather gruelling. But despite this, it was one heck of an experience. After all, not everyone gets to say that they were in a movie based on their favourite video game franchise ever! How awesome is that?! Unfortunately, I didn't manage to exchange words with any of the main actors - Michael Fassbender and Ariane Labed - or with Fassbender’s stunt double, Damien Walters, who was also there. And of course, taking photos on set is prohibited. But I still consider myself privileged to have been in their presence, watching them work just a few metres away from where I stood. I am so thankful to have been given this opportunity! (And I’m hoping there will be more in the future.) A view of Fort Manoel from the sea Part of the piazza and chapel of Fort Manoel. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 04th to 10th September Community Share 13 Sept 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Colum Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week I will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: AC Land A New Hope Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ astroghost001 “Who’s the more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him” Egypt is a place of wonder and every time I return to Origin’s I am blown away by the beauty of the game. Playing as a Medjay turned Hidden One scouring the lands in search of The Order is so much fun, and I cannot thank Ubisoft enough for adding a photo mode to this entry. This capture is giving off real Star Wars vibes, in fact it could have easily been take in the new game. Absolutely love the framing for this shot, and that delightful shadow cast over the sand is sublime. Nice touch to have Bayek riding his horse through the middle. I am sure there is a similar shot to this in the Origins art book. Sunset Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ kristina_m0509 “The truth of a man lies not in the land of his birth but in his heart” Set just before the events of 878 AD, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla allows you to play as a Viking called Eivor as you travel across England in search of glory. You can raid and form political alliance in your quest to uncover your destiny. Despite this the world around you is stunning and ripe to capture using the photo mode. This shot from Kristina perfectly shows this with its astonishing depiction of the English landscape. The colours are a representation of autumn, and the mix of terrane beautiful. I adore the sunlight reflecting from the water and the raven hovering in the sky. Link to Set: The Land is my Church Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ KeenEyeVP “God created everything that surrounds me. The land is my church, and I pray each day Lord.” What I love about the Assassin’s Creed series is its ability to explore history, and Christianity has been a big factor right from the first game. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is able to show both Pagan and Christian ways but also delves into the Isu side of things. This impressive capture symbolises the time period and the change from Roman to Saxon. I love the scope of the shot, the bird’s eye view is phenomenal. You can see that the Cathedral is the focal point and everything else surrounds it. Absolutely stunning colours and views across England. Link to Set: Islands Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ tn_taurus “I have seen too many people die. I have walked from one end of the earth to the other” We now know that Kassandra has spent many years traveling around protecting civilisation from destruction. This burden would have been heavy and her time spent in the Greek Island probably felt like a lifetime ago. This capture is of Sparta and the wonderful views that surround it. This beautiful shot encompasses everything Odyssey set out to do in terms of world building. You cannot deny these vista are spectacular. Nice choice to return to Kassandra’s home, the landscape looks so inviting and that sea apt for exploring. Link to Set: Snow Capped Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ cop_filip “Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us” Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has a wide range of breath-taking landscape to behold. The White Crystal Hills, the statue of Zeus, and the snow mountains of Taygetos, to name a few. The Makedonia Mountain in this awe inspiring shot from Filip looks just like the aforementioned snowy mountains. The framing of this capture is flawless with the autumnal trees acting as a boarder to the gorgeous snow-capped mountain. The river flowing through the middle of the forest is mesmerising as it snakes up towards the mountain. The colour tones could not be any more perfect and the shot in general looks just like a painting. The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week Judge: @ KaiVirtualPhoto ''This capture perfectly showcases the beauty of the Greek world as it was built in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. I love how the golden trees and the river guide my eyes through the foreground all the way to the snowy mountains and the cloudy sky in the background. The composition is magnificent. Looking at this shot feels like staring at a very peaceful painting. Without doubt this picture deserves to be shot of the week. '' And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: 18th - 24th June 2022: Origins Edition Community Share 25 Jun 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week, we will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for capture across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. 1) Silhouette Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s first capture comes from @ Brentassins over on Twitter. A moody shot to get us started this week. This is an impeccable silhouette of Bayek scouring the lands in search of The Order. The strong golden background really brings the capture together with the sun but a speck in the background. I feel Assassin’s Creed Origins really lends itself to this type of shot, truly magnificent. 2) Writings on the Wall Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins Photo number two comes from @ G_Assassin90 a member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. A slightly different capture next as we see some incredible writings. To quote Bayek ‘Ancient writings from the Old Kingdom’ perfectly sum up this shot. In fact this photo really does remind me of promotional material for Assassin’s Creed Origins. It also look very similar to the loading screen in the game. I would love to see it translated. 3) Cleopatra’s Reign Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ thebritenite over on Twitter. Photo number three is a beautiful story board of Cleopatra. A pivotal character in the game, I find this capture a stunning representation of her. I admire the shots of the pyramids so elegant, especially the one with the two tips. Then of course the Queen herself, such a strong character, I assume these shots were captured in the Discovery tour. 4) Senu Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP number four comes from @ G_G_snaps over on Twitter. I love this shot, Senu is my favourite companion and she is just such a graceful bird. The position of Senu here is incredible. The details are so intricate, I think the colour tones really make her stand out. Having Senu in the game really adds so much in terms of gameplay and photo opportunities, it is great to see her get the lime light by herself for once. 5) Bayek of Siwa Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The final capture of the week comes from @ horace0816 over on Twitter. This is one of my favourite Assassin’s Creed captures ever. The mix of black background and a sprinkling of light across Bayek’s hood make for a menacing feel. The capture really showcase the immense detail of Bayek in his classic outfit. There is great mystery in this shot, no more so than the lack of light on Bayek’s face. He is most definitely waiting in the shadows to…………. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. - Netflix Assassin's Creed Live Action TV Series - Fan Casting | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Netflix Assassin's Creed Live Action TV Series - Fan Casting Wishlist Share 1 May 2021 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database We asked our community members to select actors and actresses that they would like to see cast in the upcoming live-action Assassin's Creed TV series that will air on Netflix in 2021. The series is currently in development, along with numerous other Assassin's Creed projects, that will establish a TV Universe. Kicking off the casting, I personally feel that Jamie Campbell Bower (known for Harry Potter and Sweeney Todd) would make a great Simon Hathaway from the Assassin's Creed Heresy novel! Although the model on the right was selected for the book cover photo, I feel that he has a distinctive look that Bower also has. Hathaway was an incredible character, and it would be great to see more of his him in future projects. Two names that always appear when fan casting Edward Kenway are Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Hunnam. They are both extremely talented actors who would no doubt do a great job in the role, but another consideration should definitely be Matt Ryan, the original voice actor who plays Constantine in the CW Arrowverse Universe. Community member Ru from The Mentor's Guild nominates voice actress Melissanthi Mahut to reprise her role as Kassandra for the TV series. The similarities certainly are striking! Another obvious choice is Michael Fassbender, who could reprise his roles as Aguilar de Nerha and Callum Lynch from the Assassin's Creed Movie. Michael also served as a producer on the film, making him a key candidate for a series return. Community member Al believes that Ben Mendelsohn (Known for Star Wars: Rogue One and Ready Player One) would make a good Templar in the TV series. Mendelsohn was particularly impressive in the 2020 TV series, 'The Outsider', and would be excellent in a role at Abstergo. Twitter user Lord Tonio nominates Forest Whitaker to play an Old Mentor in the series, passing down decades worth of Assassin knowledge and experience to new recruits. Recently, Whitaker was exceptional in Black Panther, and also shone in Star Wars: Rogue One, amongst many other great films, so he is definitely a great nomination. Amy Wren is known for her portrayal of Mildrith in The Last Kingdom, and was nominated to join our Assassin's Creed TV Series Fan Casting by community member John Gray. Although John didn't specify a specific character, I personally believe that she would make a great Elise de la Serre, who was tragically killed off in Assassin's Creed Unity. Although Elise had limited screen time in the game, she had a fantastic story of her own in the AC Unity Novel, and even met with Edward Kenway's daughter! 2021 is the year of Shao Jun, in terms of transmedia, and she will be the focus on many upcoming projects. Our Facebook Fan Rick nominates Arden Cho to bring Shao Jun to life in the upcoming live-action TV series. I am not sure if Alexios has been featured yet in our weekly showcases, however this shot makes a great debut for him. I am a fan of how this capture has been put together, such a small snapshot yet so striking. A fantastic silhouette of the Eagle Bearer brought to life by the light pouring in from above. 2) Eagle Vision Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Photo number two comes from @ kingforever008 , member of our Assassin's Creed VP Twitter community. For me this is photo of the week in our community. What an incredible capture of Ikaros and Kassandra. The striking thing about this is the positioning. It’s not always easy to line these sort of shots up. The subtle colour added to the eyes really make this capture something special. I think Bayek and Eivor should be next to complete the set. 3) Birdman Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ IshaanMishra05 over on Twitter. There had to be an Assassin’s Creed Origins capture in this week after the release of the 60fps patch. Continuing with the theme of hero and their pets, we see Bayek and Senu watching over the land. I love the colours in this picture, they really make the silhouette of Bayek stand out. The white pouring in also makes it feel like there is a sandstorm blowing in. 4) Landscape Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP number four comes from @ jules_vp_ over on Twitter. The fourth capture of the week actually comes from an amazing set of environmental shots. This picture really shows off how stunning the landscape is in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The positioning of this capture is beautiful. Your eyes are just drawn down to the rocks and the amazing reflections in the water. I have been blown away by the details and the design of England in Valhalla. I think it was a nice change of pace after two very sun-drenched entries. 5) Night in Venice Game: Assassin’s Creed II The final capture of the week comes from @ Sirnotbanndwulf , member of our AC VP Twitter Community. For our final shot of the week we return to Italy and roll back the years to Assassin’s Creed two. I love this capture it is full of nostalgia for me. I would adore to play this game again with improved graphics and Unity movements. This is a fantastic capture showcasing the rooftops of Venice, I am mostly liking the light coming from the moon. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. Best quotes in Assassin's Creed I (2007) Share Written By: Edited By: TOWCB Team Back To Database Welcome to the first article in a new series written by TOWCB Team, outlining our favourite quotes from the franchise. We begin by revisiting the original Assassin’s Creed game, which was released back in 2007. Undoubtedly a slow burner, the game grows into its own and provides the building blocks that future games expand upon. Although it is often criticised for tedious gameplay mechanics such as tailing missions and pickpocketing, the game provides clarity over what it means to rise within the Assassin Brotherhood, and to follow the tenets of the Creed or face the consequences. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. - Assassin's Creed Mirage Officially Announced: TOWCB Analysis | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed Mirage Officially Announced: TOWCB Analysis News Share 1 Sept 2022 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Today, 1st September, Ubisoft confirmed that Assassin's Creed Mirage (codenamed Rift) is the title of the next Assassin's Creed game, and that more information would follow at the Ubisoft Forward event taking place September 10 at 9PM CEST | 12PM PT. The news comes after a difficult week for Ubisoft, with various leaks revealing different aspects about the game, but today pressure mounted significantly when a promotional image showing potential DLC content circulated social media sites. Copyright strikes were issued, but ultimately, the game was revealed through a series of social media posts at 5pm UK Time. It's always a shame to see leaks spoiling surprises, but we can't wait to learn more about Mirage, which for many will be a relief as the series looks to issue a hard reset and focus on stealth, a once fundamental pillar of the franchise. Could this Assassin be Basim Ibn Ishaq from Assassin's Creed Valhalla in his younger days? Analysis It appears that Assassin's Creed Mirage will have a Middle Eastern setting, and if rumours are to be believed, the game will centre around the city of Baghdad in Iraq. Going off the architecture I would say that this is probably true, meaning Mirage could act as a bridge between Valhalla and the original Assassin's Creed game. In the background we can see what appears to be a bustling market place, with the intended target, potentially being a Abbasid Caliphate solider. Going off the Assassin robes, we can safely assume that this game is set pre-Altair, putting it somewhere in the time period between 878 & 1165 AD. Everything about this image screams Assassin's Creed, but not the recent entries. Straight away the colour scheme reminds me of Istanbul from Assassin's Creed Revelations mixed with an Assassin wearing robes very similar to the Levantine Brotherhood. It's possible that the building in the background could be the Palace of the Golden Gate, the official residence of the Caliphate in Baghdad during the early years of the Abbasid Caliphate, as suggested by community member Arshak from Assassin's Creed Landmarks. If it is indeed Basim Ibn Ishaq, as the rumours suggest, he was a frequent visitor of Baghdad's House of Wisdom according to the Assassin's Creed Wiki. This Assassin has a particularly pointed hood, resembling that of an Eagle. It almost looks like a more simplistic version of the hood worn by Altair, lacking the sharp and rigid details but keeping the smooth cloth-like effect. I like how the blue undertones stand out in this image, as we are so used to Assassins mixing white and red. It could be that this Assassin is a novice, and that in this version of the Brotherhood, only Master Assassins are allowed to wear the red sash. It's hard to age the man beneath the hood, but I would put him at somewhere between 20 and 30, suggesting that this is a new recruit to join the Brotherhood. I also notice that this Assassins has very limited weaponry, supporting the theory that he is new to the Brotherhood. He would surely have to earn additional melee weapons such as throwing knives. Although I like the outfit, I would say that it is very basic, suggesting a lack of experience and rank. perhaps we start the game as a low level Assassin and work our way up to a higher rank. From the image we can't quite tell if the Assassin is missing his ring finger, as was required for early hidden blades, and also acted as a symbolic action which showed commitment to the Brotherhood, usually taking place during an initiation ceremony. Going off the potentially time period though, it seems likely that this Assassin would indeed have had his finger removed, as was the case with Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad. One thing that instantly distinguishes this character from Altair and the Levantine Brotherhood is the Eagle companion, which did not make it's way into the AC games until AC Origins. There has always been a strong bond between Assassins and birds in the series, and looking back at early AC1 concept art, we can see that a young Al Mualim also has a feathered friend to accompany him. Here's hoping that the developers find a way to make this feature more useful in the games, as currently it has limited use for many players. It would be cool if the main character could train his bird to peck out the eyes of enemies, or drop stones or knives from above. Finally, take a look at the intricate wood carvings and decorative designs that surround the huge archway, which are typical of Arabic doorways in larger structures. Going off the designs, I would say that this soon-to-be assassination takes place in a meeting place such as the House of Wisdom or even a mosque. We can't wait to learn more about Assassin's Creed Mirage at Ubisoft Forward, so turn on mobile notifications and bookmark the site for more information! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. An amazing shot of Roman England crumbling under Saxon rule. I really like how there is a dull emptiness but at the same time colour and vegetation. In a game that is relatively sparse the cities really do stand out. 4) The Field of Reeds Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey This week’s second capture comes from @GioWayne86 over on Twitter. A great capture of the sun setting over ancient Greece. I get Gladiator vibes with the hero walking through the reeds. I really like the use of the trees and the building far off in the distance. It would make a great picture on the wall. 3) The Beginning Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The third capture of the week comes from @BolukbasiGuner over on Twitter. An epic conclusion to a truly wonderful game. Bayek and Aya the founders of the order. A fantastic shot showing off the powerful couple after their fight for justice across Egypt. - Searching for the Creed: Assassin's Creed London Landmarks | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Searching for the Creed: Assassin's Creed London Landmarks Other Share 29 Dec 2023 Written By: Edited By: Gustav Poulsen (Gargudon) Colum Blackett Back To Database London - 1868 vs. 2023 Gustav also known as Gargudon from the TOWCB team, has found a second home in London over the few years, having done some back and forth travelling between there and Denmark, settling in London for a period of time every now and then. Seeing the city in real life provided the inspiration for this article, giving us the opportunity to showcase and compare various iconic landmarks of the great city, portrayed in-game in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate during the Victorian era, versus their real life counterparts today. St . Paul’s Cathedral St. Paul’s Cathedral, located right in the heart of the City Of London, is one of various landmarks there isn’t much about to say about, other than it has stood the test of time, and Marc Alexis-Coté and his team did a stellar job at recreating it in-game. It’s very likely some slight downscaling of the cathedral itself has taken place, but other than that it and the surrounding garden more or less looks the exact same. An iconic example of English Baroque architecture, St. Paul’s Cathedral boasts one of the largest domes in the world, inspired in the likes of the Roman grandeur. £23.61 to visit. Tate Modern Next is the massive factory and turbine hall in Southwark, right on the other side of the water from St. Paul’s, that has most likely turned into the museum known as Tate Modern. No name to this location is given in-game so we can’t be fully sure, but the size and location of it certainly suggests it. The factory has no matter what undergone a few changes on the outside, having an overall flatter exterior, no massive chimney on the left but in the centre instead… And most certainly on the inside too, trading in piping hot metal, dangerous machinery and fight rings for fancy exhibits, souvenir stores, cafés and such. The former Bankside Power Station that has now been repurposed into the Tate Modern as we know it was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the same architect who designed the iconic red telephone boxes in London. No tickets needed / free access to the public. Tickets only needed for temporary events. Cost may vary and unclear. Waterloo Station The famous Waterloo Station right in the heart of Central London, has certainly seen its share of changes and expansions, since first opening in 1848. Back then it only had 6 operating platforms, while today it is the biggest train station in London and the UK overall with 24 platforms. The interior itself has certainly also changed its looks, going from a very classic industrial and Victorian look, to a much more modern and brightly looking design. Trafalgar Square This famous square, named after the iconic naval battle in 1805 on the Spanish coast, led by Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson, whose monument is also raised at this location, also housing The National Gallery, more or less looks the exact same then as it does now, and Ubisoft did a great job at replicating it. The surrounding area has certainly seen changes though, with among other things the gate to the main road towards Buckingham Palace yet to be constructed. Leicester Square The iconic Leicester Square located right besides Piccadilly Circus, is one area that has certainly undergone various changes over the last century and a half. Then, really just a park. Today, that park but surrounded by restaurants, a massive LEGO and M&M’s store, cinemas, and home to world premieres of some of the biggest movies in the world, attended by some of the biggest names in film. Covent Garden Not much has changed about the famous Covent Garden market and halls, located not far from Leicester Square. While the selection of shops and places for refreshments has certainly expanded, the halls themselves and the square outside, also housing St. Paul’s Church remains intact. Piccadilly Circus Another area that has certainly changed over the last 155 years is Piccadilly Circus, located but a little north of St. James’ Park in the heart of Westminster. Famous for its massive billboard and the lights from it, it’s safe to say this crossroad wasn’t as bright nor necessarily crowded then as it is today. A massive double floor Boots store under the billboard, as well as restaurants and other shops in the surrounding area have also found their way into this iconic circus, but one part that stood strong then, and most certainly still does today, is the also famous fountain, right in the centre of it. Big Ben & Houses Of Parliament Not much to say about what is undoubtedly London’s and one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, other than with restorations and repairs made to the tower every now and then, Big Ben and the Houses Of Parliament, also known as the Palace Of Westminster, has stood the test of time, more or less looking the exact same today as it did during the Victorian era, where the tower itself was still a relatively new landmark, only having been completed 9 years prior in 1859. The Clock Tower’s nickname comes from Sir Benjamin Hall’s name , who was the first commissioner of Public Works in London and also in charge of the construction of the Houses of Parliament, the building to which the tower is attached to. You can find his name inscribed on the bell within the tower cast in 1852. Tickets range from £25 for adults, and £10 for children 11-17. Westminster Abbey Once again, not much to say about this one, other than it has stood the test of time and Ubisoft did a spectacular job at recreating the iconic abbey located right besides Houses Of Parliament. Only real noticeable changes on the exterior would be the fencing around the abbey, further construction and the addition of a souvenir shop in the bottom right corner, as well as a clock on just one tower instead of both. Originally a Benedictine Monastery, The Abbey has become one of the most popular London attractions. Serving as the resting place for several notorious people such as Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin (among others). Interestingly, the Abbey proudly holds the oldest door in the whole country. A wooden door leading to the Chapter House that was crafted around the 1050’s. Tickets cost £31.10 for entry. Buckingham Palace Except for restorations now and then, the iconic royal palace itself hasn’t undergone many changes, and Ubisoft once again did a great job replicating it. It’s mostly the area out front that has changed over time, being more round, and overall much larger and more spacious today. The Victoria Memorial is also something that has only found its way onto the outside palace grounds in the last century or so, being unveiled in 1911, with construction fully finished in 1924. Although the actual core of the palace was designed by John Nash in the early 19th century, the construction and planning of the Palace itself dates way back, most precisely, in the 1700’s commissioned by King George III. To this day, the Palace is not only the home of the Royal Family, but also 800+ people, all staff members. There's a cinema, pool, post office, police station, clinic and even a cash machine. Buckingham Palace is basically its own opulent little village. Tickets cost £38.39. Ubisoft Forward 2024 Breakdown: Assassin's Creed Shadows Gameplay Reveal Breakdown Share 10 Jun 2024 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Colum Blackett Back To Database Ubisoft released the first ever glimpse at Assassin's Creed Shadows gameplay on the 9th June 2024 in a brand new 'First Look Gameplay Trailer' which was shown at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase event, with the promise of more to follow at Ubisoft Forward the next day! Watch the teaser here: Ubisoft Forward has become a highly anticipated event since the collapse of E3, with players eagerly awaiting trailers, reveals and gameplay for their favourite franchises, and Assassin's Creed is no exception. As fans awaited the 19:30 BST launch time for the pre-show, screenshots, short clips and images of the game started to appear on Twitter, as just before Ubisoft's own event, Apple's WWDC event was going on. In a short section featuring Assassin's Creed's Vice President Executive Producer Marc-Alexis Côté, it was announced that the game would be available on both MAC and iPad! The main focus of the short teaser was the environment, which looks stunning in each and every scenario! Assassin's Creed was mentioned a couple of times in the build up to the show during the pre-show, with my favourite reference being a pigeon passing the camera along with the iconic eagle screech. We also see a few community photo mode shots on the walls of Ubisoft Montreal which were taken in Assassin's Creed games. The pre-show section dedicated to Assassin's Creed highlighted the fact that Mirage is available now on Apple devices. The Main Show As the biggest Ubisoft franchise of all, Assassin's Creed was naturally shown last at the event to end things on a high, with the tone set early on in the event by a series of excellent reveals, focusing on the passion of the developers, rather than pre-written jokes, audience participation and celebrity endorsement, as was often the case with E3. Coverage of #AssassinsCreedShadows at Ubisoft Forward kicked off following a stunning musical performance! Twelve minutes of gameplay was shown during the main show, focussing oin Yasuke. Features we noticed in the gameplay, written by Yazen (MidnightMarauder) Full year seasonal weather (depending on the season, the terrain changes). Can pet stray Shiba Inu. Yasuke is respected which can be seen by NPC bowing to him. Armour types on enemies affect their health, armour can be broken. Can easily switch between weapons with Yasuke. Unique kill screen for big targets. Noae has eagle vision. Many tools to assassinate not just the hidden blade. Grappling hook can be used to reverse vertical obstacles. You can choose to grab rather than assassinate for a non-lethal takedown. Can assassinate through Japanese doors. Kuni knife replaces the regular throwing knife. Can swim underwater to remain hidden for assassinations, breathe using a stick. Yasuke and Naoe now have different abilities which can be recharged through assassinations or kill like AC Mirage. Post-Show Features we noticed in the developer interview / gameplay, written by Yazen (MidnightMarauder) Monkeys are a visual clues for loot and interesting places The look of the map and animals even changed through the seasons Environment is highly interactive which can lead to breakable things during combat The ability bar is called the meter adrenaline meter Unlike Valhalla posture and parrying is paramount playing as Yasuke Different enemies of different types of combat encounters some enemies are more patient than others You can switch between characters, however, during missions or infiltrations that is not possible You can use a spy network to scout ahead for where your target is Grappling hook is highly dependent on speed and positioning Can peek around corners enemies are highly affected by light and shadows Weapons have different assassination animations like the hidden blade and the long blade The grappling hook can be used to grab at enemies quickly that are far away Thunder and different weather condition can affect assassination ways can change based on the weather condition where a pond can be frozen during winter but can be swam in in other seasons Media Coverage After the show, the floodgates opened on Assassin's Creed Shadows as the embargo lifted and media coverage and reactions of an early access gameplay demo hit the web. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment.
