Ubisoft UK Community Celebration Awards 2022 Photo Log (Jan 2023) Events Share 3 Apr 2023 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Back in January, I had the pleasure of joining fellow UK community members at an awards ceremony in London hosted by Ubisoft. It was such an incredible experience, and so nice to see content creators and fans of Ubisoft titles recognised for their contributions. Here are my photos (and a few others) from the event. This was by far one of the best events I have ever attended, so a big thank you goes out to Marcus and Neale from Ubisoft for hosting, and for inviting TOWCB members. We are so proud of our very own Lisa Zaman from TOWCB Art Team for winning the 'Artist of the Year' award! It was also a surreal experience to be nominated for the 'Editorial Piece of the Year' award, a prize deservingly won by the Let's Talk Assassin's Creed team. Huge congratulations to all the winners! AC Community Questions: Andy (SisterlyThrower) Interview Share 11 Jul 2024 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) TOWCB Team Back To Database Col: Hi Andy, thank you for joining me for this introductory interview. Please could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your role within the Assassin's Creed Community. Andy: Thank you for the welcome! My role within the AC Community has had a few different key aspects so far. Mainly, I have been live streaming and making videos about the games for several years. Now, I am making further videos and live streams on content beyond just the games, including utilizing my personal life as a therapist for mental health analysis of the universe. Col: In March 2024 you joined The Ones Who Came Before's Assassin's Creed Partnership Program, known as the Isu_Network. How have you enjoyed your time working with our content teams? Andy: I have absolutely loved my time working with the teams so far. At a most basic level, it is always enjoyable to be around people who love the same content you do. But even beyond that, it’s inspiring to be on these teams, because it forces me to level up my own content. Everyone on the team is amazingly talented, and I have to make sure that what I make is of the same calibre! Col: When did you first start making videos, and what in your opinion would you say has been your most popular / recognisable creation? Andy: I first started live streaming and making videos in 2018. My most popular live stream series has been playing through the Assassin’s Creed games under various challenge conditions, including spinning a wheel of punishment when I fail a challenge. My most popular video series has been my mental health analysis of video game characters, entitled, “The Video Game Therapyst.” Col: What are some of your most recent Assassin's Creed Community Projects, and what are you working on currently? Andy: My recent projects include mental health analysis of Assassin’s Creed characters in “Creed and Counsel: Unravelling the Minds of Assassin’s Creed,” and challenge live streams. I am currently working on gearing up for live streams on Twitch for The Ones Who Came Before, in addition to a martial arts analysis of Assassin’s Creed combat, and an exploration of Assassin’s Creed books. Col: Have you visited any of the locations from the games? Andy: Unfortunately, I have not gotten a chance to visit any of the game locations yet, but if I could visit any one, I would probably start with Boston, New York, and Philadelphia to see how much of Connor’s journey I could recreate from Assassin’s Creed III. Col: Which Assassin's Creed game is your favourite and why? Andy: I won’t pretend it was a perfect game, but I have always had a special place in my heart for Assassin’s Creed Unity. I think that Arno pushed the boundary more than any other previous protagonist on whether the Assassins had the right viewpoint on how to conduct themselves as a movement. He was willing to threaten his place within the group out of love for Elise, and I have always considered myself a romantic at heart. And as flawed as the game’s release was, the parkour system and open nature of how to carry out assassinations really revolutionized gameplay for this game and all future games. Col: Have you attended any events within the Assassin's Creed Community? Andy: Sadly no, but nothing would make me happier than to start exploring cosplay and go to a general convention like Pax or a specific Ubisoft event. Col: Do you have a favourite Assassin's Creed community moment/ story you would like to share? Andy: I know this was incredibly recent, but the excitement and buzz around Assassin’s Creed Shadows has honestly been one of the best things in this community that I’ve ever been a part of. Fans have been begging for a Japanese release for years, and to see it come has been exciting. I think the environment and gameplay aspects they are trying in this entry will really elevate this game’s quality. Col: What would be your dream setting for the upcoming AC Netflix TV show or future game? Andy: I know we’ve spent a lot of time in America, but I would love to see the Assassin and Templar conflict at the time of the American Civil War. I could also potentially entertain the idea of the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War around the time of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Col: Do you have any personal AC goals you would like to achieve? Andy: My short-term goal would be to get accepted into the Ubisoft Partner Creator Program. The long-term goal is to be in a position where I could live stream/ make videos as a full time career. Col: What would you say is your most significant community achievement to date? Andy: For me, the idea of consistent viewership of audience members that I have had no previous relationship with has been the most exciting achievement for me. I have some viewers who are people I know IRL or am related to in some way, but the idea that my content is even good enough to bring in other viewers whom I don’t know has always been confirmation that what I am making is good. Col: What is your favourite part of being a community member? Andy: I think being a community member lends itself to a level of excitement you may not feel otherwise. It’s one thing to experience a new game or beat a level when you’re by yourself, but to do that surrounded by others who are just as passionate as you just brings things to another level. Col: Do you collect AC merchandise? If so, what if your favourite item? Andy: I just recently started to collect merchandise myself. As such, I don’t have a huge collection right now. However, I am proud to report that I have a complete collection of guide books for the Assassin’s Creed games. Having guidebooks was always really enticing for me, as it gave me reassurance that I was seeing everything there was to see in a game. Col: What advice do you have for people looking to get in to games journalism and creative writing? Andy: Don’t underestimate the importance of fun. If what you are writing about is not fun, at least some of the time, you will lose your passion for what you’re doing, and without passion, what you are writing about will not be as good as it could be. Col: Where can our community members find you online? Andy: My guilty secret as a content creator is that I’m not online nearly as much as I should be, but I am by far most consistently on X @ SisterlyT . I’m doing personal live streams on Twitch every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday night at 11:30 PM, EST as well. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: 4th - 10th June 2022: Origins Edition Community Share 18 Jun 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week, we will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for capture across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. 1) Killer Croc Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s first capture comes from @ G_Assassin90 over on Twitter. First up in our Assassins Creed Origins special is a super bird’s eye view of a crocodile wading through the water. I Really like how this shot has the predator partly submerged in the green water. Anyone who’s played Origins knows how deadly these creatures are especially when hiding in the reeds. The eco system in Origins is the best I have seen in a game so far. 2) Egyptian Sunsets Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins Photo number two comes from @ virtualmiky This one is a perfect phone wallpaper. I love the positioning of the shot but also the stunning colours. This capture flawlessly shows off the beauty of Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game maybe almost 5 years old but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. Bayek on top of a pyramid will always be iconic. 3) Golden Sands Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ PodToGo using the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture For me this shot is just like the promotional material put out by Ubisoft when Assassin’s Creed Origins launched. It was photos like this that got me hyped for the game. I would certainly recommend checking out the full set of shots. The contrast of the bright blue sky and the golden sand is spectacular. 4) Black & White Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP number four comes from @ joshy_navaneeth member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. Time to mix things up with photo number four as we bring in a bit of black and white photography. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in character shots, but the buildings and environment can be just as awesome. I remember this location very well, it was nice how Origins was less repetitive with its buildings. You can see in this shot how people are just living here. It would be easy to mistake this for a real life photo. 5) Desert Hero Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The final capture of the week comes from @kingforever008 member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. To close out our first Assassin’s Creed Origins showcase we have a real comic book style shot. I am a big fan of silhouette captures and this one mixed with the vibrant colours looks amazing. The rays from the sun behind Bayek make him feel like an imposing figure. I get real Batman vibes from this almost reminiscent of the Animated Series intro. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: Assassin’s Creed In Plain Sight Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Jakeste66386991 We start this week's showcase with an absolute cracker from Jakester. This shot is all about depth of field and how it highlights the Ezio outfit perfectly. I am definitely getting Brotherhood vibes from this photo. I am always impressed when people can capture the spirit of the old games within the newer ones. Thank you Ubisoft for adding the legacy outfits. The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week: Judge - Michael Doyle This capture has immortalised what it means to be an assassin, hidden in plain sight, yet with an elegance that stands out beyond the crowd around them. I also get a great sense of nostagla towards the original AC in this shot. Bayek appears ancient and wise, which is unique as this was taken early in Bayek’s life before the brotherhood truly began. The Master Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ reephto This shot was titled "The Master'' and I can't argue with that, In fact, I would say this capture is masterful in itself. For me this photo epitomises the Assassin's and what they stand for. I love that Bayek is in the Hidden Ones outfit, and that stunning shadow across his face/hood symbolises the Creed impeccably. Bayek's beard looks so detailed too, is this really a 2017 game? Ready for Battle Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Nxthxn_Turner18 Next up we have Varin's axe in full view. This axe should be more famous than in is, the details are so impressive. The positioning of this shot is what drew me to it. I like how the depth of field highlights the axe and the hidden blade. You can see Eivor is ready for a fight, and that light forking down in front of her is really something. Saxon Slayer Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ PodToGo I may have some bias to this shot. When you like the hairstyle, armour, and the portrait style, all you can do is feature it. I am in awe of how good this capture looks; I feel like the metal on the outfit just glints in this style. I am definitely going to try this myself now, especially as the Huldufolk set is my favourite. A perfect photo for a Thorsday entry. Fallen Hero Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Platform: PS4 VP Artist: @ _TFoU_ The final shot of the week blends Viking and Isu to give off a real science fiction vibe. I don't usually use these outfits and weapons, but I have to admit it does look cool. The film grain style adds a real sense of grandeur. I love the combo of Fallen Hero, Excalibur, and the band around the eyes. Checkout the link for an awesome close up of Eivor. A moody shot to get us started this week. This is an impeccable silhouette of Bayek scouring the lands in search of The Order. The strong golden background really brings the capture together with the sun but a speck in the background. I feel Assassin’s Creed Origins really lends itself to this type of shot, truly magnificent. 2) Writings on the Wall Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins Photo number two comes from @ G_Assassin90 a member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. A slightly different capture next as we see some incredible writings. To quote Bayek ‘Ancient writings from the Old Kingdom’ perfectly sum up this shot. In fact this photo really does remind me of promotional material for Assassin’s Creed Origins. It also look very similar to the loading screen in the game. I would love to see it translated. 3) Cleopatra’s Reign Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ thebritenite over on Twitter. Photo number three is a beautiful story board of Cleopatra. A pivotal character in the game, I find this capture a stunning representation of her. I admire the shots of the pyramids so elegant, especially the one with the two tips. Then of course the Queen herself, such a strong character, I assume these shots were captured in the Discovery tour. 4) Senu Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP number four comes from @ G_G_snaps over on Twitter. I love this shot, Senu is my favourite companion and she is just such a graceful bird. The position of Senu here is incredible. The details are so intricate, I think the colour tones really make her stand out. Having Senu in the game really adds so much in terms of gameplay and photo opportunities, it is great to see her get the lime light by herself for once. 5) Bayek of Siwa Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The final capture of the week comes from @ horace0816 over on Twitter. This is one of my favourite Assassin’s Creed captures ever. The mix of black background and a sprinkling of light across Bayek’s hood make for a menacing feel. The capture really showcase the immense detail of Bayek in his classic outfit. There is great mystery in this shot, no more so than the lack of light on Bayek’s face. He is most definitely waiting in the shadows to…………. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. Best quotes in Assassin's Creed I (2007) Share Written By: Edited By: TOWCB Team Back To Database Welcome to the first article in a new series written by TOWCB Team, outlining our favourite quotes from the franchise. We begin by revisiting the original Assassin’s Creed game, which was released back in 2007. Undoubtedly a slow burner, the game grows into its own and provides the building blocks that future games expand upon. Although it is often criticised for tedious gameplay mechanics such as tailing missions and pickpocketing, the game provides clarity over what it means to rise within the Assassin Brotherhood, and to follow the tenets of the Creed or face the consequences. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. • Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC New Teaser Breakdown | TheOnesWhoCameBefore

Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC New Teaser Breakdown Breakdown Share 30 Aug 2025 Written By: Edited By: Zephryss Colum Blackett Back To Database Ubisoft has finally revealed the release date for Assassin's Creed Shadows: Claws of Awaji DLC, which is launching on September 16, 2025. They have also shared a brand-new short teaser for the DLC. Here is the full breakdown of the new teaser. In the opening scene you can see a mysterious character from behind, holding a kanabo. He wears a dark red armored outfit with gold shell-like patterns on the sleeves. The symbol on the back of the character in the image appears to resemble a stylized wood grain pattern, which is highly likely to be a mon (family crest or emblem), a traditional Japanese symbol used to represent clans, families, or organizations. The pattern looks natural and abstract, evoking the look of topographic lines or swirling wood grain, which might symbolize strength, nature, or lineage. The 2nd scene shows a dark, shadowy figure crouching on a tree branch in the middle of a forest at night. This could be a member of the new enemy faction, Sanzoku Ippa. Moonlight shines through the trees, lighting up the figure just enough to reveal their armor and a curved weapon in hand. The enemy looks ready to strike or watch from above, hidden in the darkness. In the 3rd scene a person is seen running through a forest path, unaware that he's triggering a tripwire trap stretched across the ground. The wire is connected to trees on both sides and is barely visible in the dim lighting. In the bottom image, the trap has been activated, an explosion erupts in the background with sparks and flames bursting out violently. This trap appears to have been set by the new enemy faction, Sanzoku Ippa. In the 4th scene Naoe is fighting with two enemies. She is flipping over two enemies while holding a long staff weapon called a Bo. This seems to be a new skill that lets her attack while jumping through the air. In the 5th and final scene, Naoe shows her hidden blade to a mysterious woman, who immediately recognizes her and calls her by name. It looks like Naoe has finally found her mother, Tsuyu, in the Assassin's Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji DLC. Also, check out our full review of the new Summer Roadmap for Assassin's Creed Shadows. The actor Paul Amos known as the voice of Jacob Frye from Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (also Lost Girl and The Murdoch Mysteries ) teamed up with his friend Rachel Skarsten (Lost Girl, Reign, Batwoman) to create their very own and unique, stay at home Comic-con, the aptly named HomeCon which debuted on April 10th-11th 2020. Back to Database From the moment Paul Amos went live on Instagram on the 30th March and declared a new project he’d created alongside Rachel Skarsten, we knew he had something big up his sleeve and it would be a game changer. A few days later via Instagram Live HomeCon was announced and a comic con like no other had been born. With the world on lockdown and comic cons being postponed or cancelled left right and centre, Paul and Rachel had the genius idea to create HomeCon, as the name suggests a comic con at home. But how would it work? What would it entail? And who would be there? With everyone at home, HomeCon literally had a captive audience and with many of the voice actors in the same boat as the fans, they were available to participate. Like with any Comic-Con, there would be panels, Q&A’s and the chance to have 1to1’s with your favourite actor. So with less than two weeks Paul, Rachel and many other incredible people behind the scenes pulled an incredible feat and HomeCon was ready to go live. HomeCon would take part on April 10th and 11th. All panels would be live via Twitch and with a subscription of $4.99 (or free of you had an Amazon Prime account) you could view it all. HomeCon’s Social Media platforms ( Twitter , Facebook & Instagram ) informed us frequently with panel information and guests. As the HomeCon website went live, it provided fans with schedule’s and allowed them to book their 1to1 sessions. Of course, there were a few teething problems, as there always is with technology and the rapid interest in HomeCon meant that the website traffic sent it into a mini meltdown. With all new ventures, there were a few teething problems, but personally speaking I felt that the HomeCon support teams did a phenomenal job in handling issues prior and during the event. 12/4/20 By Lisa Zaman Edited by Ashlea Buckley References Assassin’s Creed Panel (Twitch) Voice Acting in Video Games Panel (Twitch) HomeCon website Paul Amos Twitter Support TOWCB By using our Amazon Links The Assassin's Creed Community are raising money for the Italian Red Cross! Donate here Save 10% on officially licensed Assassin's Creed Origins merchandise with the code "TOWCB" A few questioned the cost ($53 for 5 mins) for the 1to1, some feeling that they couldn’t justify the spend during these uncertain times, but as Paul explained very diplomatically that many actors had dedicated their time free of charge to be available and that 10% of proceeds were going to the charity First Responders First . What I felt was impressive it that they devised an almost perfect timetable, the different time zones taken into account, allowing those around the world to tune in. Day 1 started strong, with a live introduction and welcome by Rachel and Paul. Assassin’s Creed fans eagerly awaited the AC panel at 6pm BST. I noted as I tuned in to watch that over 26,000 people were watching. Suddenly all the familiar faces (or should that be voices) appeared on screen and the discussions began. I felt the moderator Ming Chen did a great job in keeping the pace and allowing each person to talk. However, as is the way with this incredible bunch of people, the conversation steered off course in the best possible way, usually led by Paul himself. It was great to see the interaction between them all, each one giving a little insight into their character and sharing anecdotes. As the hour long panel continued it was a joy to see fans sending questions and even communicating with one another as the message board scrolled furiously. Image source: Cas Anvar Before Day 1 came to an end, Paul popped back on to Instagram to send love and thanks to all involved and teased us with the hint that there could be a HomeCon 2.0. Victoria Atkin (Evie Frye) also hosted a quick Instagram live with Melissanthi Mahut (Kassandra), and then siblings Alexios and Kassandra did the same over on Michael Antonakos’s Instagram. It was evident at this point that everyone was having the best time and that HomeCon really was bringing everyone together. Day 2 and Assassin’s Creed was represented in the Motion Capture Panel which featured Elias Toufexis (Federico Auditore da Firenze - AC 2), Melissanthi Mahut (Kassandra - AC Odyssey) and Kris Holden-Ried (Crawford Starrick - AC Syndicate), alongside Greg Bryk (Joseph Seed - Far Cry 5) and Adam Croasdell (Ignis Scientia - Final Fantasy XV) The panel was insightful and again thoroughly amusing. Meanwhile remaining AC actors were busy meeting and greeting fans via the 1to1’s. I myself had the pleasure of talking with Victoria Atkin all whilst being photobombed constantly by my excited son! Image Source: Lisa Zaman As Day 2 drew to an end for the Assassins Creed fans, Michael Antonakos went live on Instagram with HomeCon’s co creator Paul, who we discovered, was sat in his shower with a beer and a box of kitty litter. Would we have expected anything less from the Welshman? As the conversation passed between the two it was obvious that there had been another lightbulb moment for Paul and that perhaps another HomeCon would focus solely on Assassin’s Creed. As HomeCon came to an end it became clear that it had been a great success. Not only in bringing excitement and entertainment to the fans at such a tumultuous time, but it allowed those who have been unable to participate in Comic cons previously (be it mentally, physically or simply geographically) to enjoy and embrace the atmosphere that so many of us cherish. Yes, it was a fabulously entertaining 2 days, but what I took away from this experience is, as Paul highlighted, it allowed us as humans, to connect with others, something that is so important in these current times. To celebrate the launch of our new interview with Carlo Rota, who provides the voice and mo-cap performances for Basim and Loki in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, we reached out to Sophia with an idea. What if Basim looked in the mirror one day and saw his past staring back at him. Sophia took this starting point and made it her own, creating this beautiful piece to accompany our interview, and we couldn't be happier with the final result. Loki's menacing eyes create an atmosphere of uncertainty, something that we really wanted to capture in this piece. What are his intentions? What will he do next in the Modern Day? The launch of our new website and AC Partnership Program last year has helped to create more opportunities than ever before, which we are excited to explore in more depth over the coming months. This year we're aiming to grow our social media channels, and release a ton of content for our fans. With the help of our amazing community, we will continue to be the home of Assassin's Creed Community content. Here are five things you can do to support TOWCB in 2020! 5) Bookmark The Website One way in which you can support TOWCB is by bookmarking the website. You can also add the page to your home screen on mobile devices, making it a more frequent visit. This year, we're aiming to climb the Google rankings and improve our S.E.O. By making the website one of your regular online stops, we will continue to improve our web status. We recently finished adding all our past projects into the database, some of which date back to 2015. Head over to the log and explore five years' worth of Assassin's Creed interviews, articles, videos, and more. We're also going to be releasing a wide variety of content throughout the year, so check back with us to see what's going on! 4) Follow Our Social Media Channels Our social media channels have grown massively over the last five years, with our community currently standing at around 20,000 members. You can even go a step further and turn on mobile notifications so that you don't miss a post! 3) Submit Your Ideas We're always working on projects for the Assassin's Creed community, so if you have an idea and want to see it developed, please feel free to get in touch! You never know, your idea may turn out to be a fan favourite project! 2) Join The AC Partnership Program Last year we launched the AC Partnership Program, a community initiative which aims to promote and share content. The program is a great way for content creators to gain recognition for their work within the community, and expand to a wider audience. The program is generating a ton of content, and we're extremely happy with the response it's had so far. We will soon be taking applications for a variety of new positions, so why not apply and add your content to the Community Hub! 1) Use Our Amazon Links We earn a small commission every time you purchase items on Amazon using our special referral links. This small income contributes towards costs such as shipping fees, website hosting, and giveaway prizes. This is the number one way you can help our community, and it's completely free! We are now able to use Amazon UK and .com links, so look out for them on our social media channels to show your support for our community. An increase in earnings will mean that more giveaways will be open internationally, rather than UK only. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: Feb 7th - Feb 11th 2022 Community Share 12 Feb 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. 2) Hitting the Mark Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP number two comes from @mimi_makeslight over on Twitter. I am always won over by archery photos. Great use of the sun, I like how the rays pass straight by Alexios. The sun also looks like a target in the distance. Funny use of Ikaros in the bottom corner creates a sense of Alexios flying. The gold on the bow really stands out against the blue background. 1) Going Viking Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla The final capture of the week comes from @bythehist over on Twitter. This imagine reminds me of the original box art for the game, with Eivor and his crew beginning a raid. A real Viking feel to this shot with a realistic longship and Eivor dressed less flamboyantly. I think this image looks like it has come from the art book for the game. The clouds, water and the rock Eivor is standing on all makes this capture exceptional. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. • Interview with Magnus Bruun (Eivor in Assassin's Creed Valhalla) | TheOnesWhoCameBefore

Interview with Magnus Bruun (Eivor in Assassin's Creed Valhalla) Interview Share 21 Dec 2020 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Buckley Back To Database To celebrate AC Day, we interviewed Magnus Bruun, who provided the voice and mo-cap performance for the male version of Eivor in Assassin's Creed Valhalla! Colum: Hi Magnus, thanks for joining us today! I'd like to start by exploring your Assassin's Creed journey. When you first auditioned for the role, did you know that it was for an Assassin's Creed game or a Viking related project, and was it always with the intention of playing male Eivor? Magnus: When I first heard of the project back in the spring of 2019, it was called The Black Wolf Saga and was an animated Viking series to be filmed in Canada. So when I made my selftape I had no idea what was actually going on, nor did my agent. It was first when I got the call back and the invitation to come to London for the audition that we found out that it was Ubisoft who was producing it, but we still didn’t know exactly what it was. So I flew from Copenhagen to London still in the blind, but when I entered the audition room and was met by Darby McDevitt and three other directors from Ubisoft Montreal it all became very clear. Also I originally auditioned for the role as Sigurd, but that changed when I got the call back and for my two days of castings in London I was auditioning for Eivor. Colum: What were your initial thoughts on the character? Magnus: I loved Eivor, such a great character to dive into. Eivor is stubbornly independent, honor bound, strong and adventurous but also a character dealing with a childhood trauma trying to find the way to a brighter future. Colum: This is the first time the series has split a character into both male and female versions. How did filming work, and did you take turns with Cecilie to film scenes? Magnus: I shot almost all of the cinematics for Eivor so we never really took turns, but we did shoot one scene together, though I really can’t talk about that one since it would spoil the game for the players who hasn’t completed it yet. I love the fact that everyone playing AC Valhalla gets to met and live as Eivor and that you as a gamer make your own choice to how and who your Eivor is going to be, so I think the character choice in the game is working very well. I also really love Cecilie Stenspil's acting and voice work and I think she did an amazing job with the character. Colum: How are you finding the motion capture, and do you ever get used to it? Magnus: I found the motion capture a bit weird an unsatisfying in the beginning because I just came from shooting two seasons of The Last Kingdom. On the big Netflix set in Hungary I had an army, was riding a black stallion, looking like a true Viking warlord in my armour with scars, full beard and face tattoos, and now I had to be clean shaven for the facial scans and HMC (head mounted camera) and my costume was a tight spandex suit with small dots all around, not very ‘Vikingy’. At the Alice Studios in Montreal there was nothing, or all most nothing. It’s an enormous room with green screen, a hundred cameras on the ceiling and four steady-cam operators walking around you, but there are no horses, the castle is made of boxes and when I jump over Yggdrasils roots (spoiler, sorry), it’s just me jumping over some big ropes and sandbags lying on the floor. So I had to cope with that, but after a few days it gave me a lot of freedom. In a studio like this everything is suddenly possible and from the moment I fully understood that, I embraced it and never looked back. BTW the people working at the Alice Studio were so professional and helpful and they made all my weeks of shooting feel great, adequate and very fun. Colum: Did recording during lockdown present any challenges, and did the team manage to overcome them? Magnus: I filmed my last performance capture in Montreal the day after the Danish Prime Minister locked Denmark down. Then I flew home and we actually managed to record all the rest of the voice overs without having any real difficulties, thank God! Talking about the voice work I have to give my utmost respect to my voice director Thor Bishopric. Working with him made Eivor come to life in the voice-overs and I have a feeling that we created the character together. I also want to praise Allan Beaupre our incredible voice designer, Sebastian Vaskio my sound technician ninja and all the other wonderful people working with me and Cecilie Stenspil during the hundreds and hundreds of hours we used in voice studios all over Canada, England and Denmark. There wouldn’t be any Eivor in this game without their tireless work. Never forget! Colum: Do you think that your time working on The Last Kingdom contributed towards any of Eivor's traits? Magnus: Portraying Cnut in The Last Kingdom definitely gave me a great deal of stamina towards playing Eivor in AC Valhalla. Though they are two very different characters, (one off them allegedly being being a villain) they are both Viking warriors getting more and more power and influence. Family and a home for their clan and their people are important to them and they are both very ambitious, but then it sort of ends there. Cnut being the unsung hero of his own saga, Eivor actually is the real hero of the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Saga. I shot my last scene as Cnut for season four of The Last Kingdom a week before I flew to Canada and started the first motion capture shoot as Eivor, so I was in the mindset of a Viking and had been it for more than three years, and that helped a lot. Colum: Which type of flyting do you prefer? Normal (insults) or reverse (compliments)? Magnus: Normal flyting with insults of course! Colum: Which missions were your favourite to shoot, and did you have fun working on the game? Magnus: My favourite part of the game is the main story with Sigurd and Basim and in details I think everything involving Fulke, brilliantly portrayed by Gaia Weiss. The four of us had so much fun shooting all the performance capture scenes and Gummi, Carlo (Gudmundur Thorvaldsson & Carlo Rota), Gaia and I had a blast in Montreal when we had any spare time. And YES I obviously loved working on the game and I love that it’s still not finished. I’m currently working on the DLC’s, Seasons and press for the game, so Eivor is still out and proud and doing all the dirty work. Also I made some great friends in Montreal and I don’t think I want to go back to my old life without Darby McDevitt and Alain Mercieca in it. Best damn writers, brains and lovely funny people I’ve ever met. Period. Colum: Do you have a favourite (non-spoiler) line? Magnus: As Eivor returns to his childhood home in Norway he says: ‘Home. Or it used to be home… Now it’s nothing but bone.’ And may I just add that I freaking love Norway in the game. It’s the most beautiful stunning place! Colum: Have you had much time to play Valhalla yourself? If so, are you focusing on story or exploration? Magnus: I haven’t been playing the game much since the release, but I’ve played it while we where making it. I’ve been watching some of my friends play it and I enjoy that a lot. The thing is that I know everything. I have read it all. Said almost all of it. So there’s no surprises. But when I’ll finally sit down and dig deep into it, I’ll plow through the main story so I can listen to my great colleagues work. And then I’ll go back to Norway and just explore. Jump from Island to island and enjoy the northern lights. AC Sisterhood graphic by Dylan and Sebastian Dell’Aria from The Mentor's Guild Colum: How do you feel the game has been received overall, and have you seen any of the fan content created to celebrate its arrival? Magnus: It feels like most people really enjoy the game and that makes me happy. Of course we can’t satisfy everybody but when millions of people are playing the game that’s always a hard thing to do. I heard there were people wanting Eivor to sound like Kratos from God of War, those people are hard to please. (BTW I love Christopher Judges voice) Back when we approached the character we wanted Eivor to be someone people would listen to, someone people would fall in love with, make alliances with someone to follow and genuinely like as well as be afraid of at the right times. We wanted to make a real human being with strengths and flaws. So if you are only looking for a bloodthirsty Viking, sorry, Eivor can be that, but not all the time. About the fan content and art. I freaking f****** love it! Keep it coming! Colum: One thing that was noticeable during the marketing campaign was the focus on male Eivor over female, contributing towards the creation of the AC Sisterhood movement. Do you have a message for fans picking up the game for the first time regarding character selection? Magnus: I believe that AC Sisterhood is a very important movement and I really think you should keep up the incredible work you are doing and keep pushing. Things are changing in the world and also in the gaming communities and the female representation will change for the better even though the battle sometimes feels Sisyphean. I’ll personally do what I can to push things in the right direction and you can always call on me for help, I mean that. When my Eivor arrives in England the first place I will go is the western part of Wessex. Here I’ll find myself an underground entrance so I for the rest of the game can show off some powerful tattoos with the most wonderful logo! And I think that you should pic the Eivor you want. It’s a great game anyway you play it. Cecilie Stenspil did a fantastic job with her Eivor and I did my absolutely best with mine. Whatever choice you make you can always switch whenever you play it or you can let the Animus decide. Just go with your gut feeling. I think I’m gonna give Female Eivor a go because I’ve been listening to my own voice for all my life and I know how I’ve said and played every single one of the eleven thousand lines Eivor has in the game, so for me it’s time for a change. But pick your poison it’s a good drink anyway you drink it. Colum: You recently attended the Assassin's Creed Valhalla launch event in Denmark, organised by the Ubisoft Nordic team. How was it? Magnus: Yes I did, and it was great. Drunk Uncle Covid has f***** up the entire planet at the moment, so obviously it wasn’t the launch we wanted, but we had a good time. I met a lot of fans of the franchise, talked about making the game and signed posters. When we get to the other side of this weird period in the world I really look forward to meeting more fans at conventions but at the moment it has to be online, sadly. We’ll prevail and when the sun shines again it’ll all be perfect. So wear your face mask and take care of each other then we’ll get to the other side faster. Meanwhile I’ll make you a second DLC. Deal? Cheers Magnus Look out for our Assassin's Creed Valhalla review, coming January 2021! We would like to thank Magnus for joining us for this interview, and to Kim Beacham and DMJ Consultancy for making it possible! comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: Feb 19th - Feb 25th 2022 Community Share 3 Mar 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. 1) Rainbow Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla This week’s first capture comes from @PodToGo over on Twitter. A creepy shot is first up this week. It looks like one of the druid camps in Ireland. I am not sure I have seen a rainbow in Valhalla so far. What I like about this capture is the stone structures and the shrine which are covered in this green haze. The raven flying away also seems like an omen, making the scene very atmospheric. 2) Paris Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Photo number two comes from @WorldviewVP over on Twitter. This picture looks like it comes straight from the Assassin’s Creed Atlas book. For me City shots are the essence of Assassin’s Creed. This is usually where the enemies hide and plot their schemes. Although smaller in scale, it is cool to compare this capture to ones from Unity just to see the difference. 3) Burning Lands Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @coalabr14 over on Twitter. I really like this capture. The glow from the sun breaking through the clouds casting a shadow over the burnt lands of Egypt. I love the silhouette of Senu and Bayek watching over a military encampment planning their next move. 4) The Archer Game: Assassin’s Creed III VP number four comes from @AHeinemann over on Twitter. Nice to see a different Assassin’s Creed game feature in this article. As I have said before archery capture are my favourite. What drew me to this shot was the dark night with the moon as a focal point adding some light to the scene. Connor looks impressive with his dark outfit and his half drawn bow. This bow was such a game changer back then, but now it is a staple of any AC game. 5) Falcon Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla The final capture of the week comes from @starlingspecks over on twitter. My bird of choice in Valhalla and also the inspiration for my gamertag. I love this shot, the stars and the clouds are a great backdrop to Eivor’s magnificent companion. The details on Synin are so impressive and this capture really showcases that.
