Ubisoft went all out with this reveal, and it is a big milestone for the franchise, as it marks the first full remake for not just the Assassin’s Creed series, but for Ubisoft as a whole. The reveal showcased many features fans were eager to know about, such as the stealth, combat, parkour, and naval combat that has all received significant upgrades from the original 2013 version. The visuals look nothing short of stunning, and this new version merely enhances the original, also including new scenes from the voice actor of Edward Kenway, Matt Ryan, who also had a major part in the reveal, hosting and narrating several elements of the big showcase.

During the reveal, Ubisoft also shared some clips of combat and naval battle which showcased an overhauled system, while still honouring the original and not undoing its success. Ubisoft listened to fans by not transforming the game into an RPG, an approach more recent instalments in the series have followed. The developers knew that the original Black Flag launched in a different era for the series, and the idea of making it a full fledged RPG would not sit well with some fans. Thankfully, Ubisoft listened to their fan base, and this reiteration is sticking as true as can be to the legendary original.

Another interesting thing to be revealed, was the smaller gameplay changes that are easy to overlook. For one, you can now crouch to go into stealth mode while engaging enemies. Something the original game did not have, which understandably made stealth more difficult. The foundation of certain missions have also been reworked. Many fans disliked the many tailing and eavesdropping missions from the original, many seeing it as repetitive and unrealistic, as the targets you were tailing would for no reason turn around at random times, as if they are expecting to be followed. This new version instead tones down the heavy dose of these elements, and makes it more player-friendly, better suited to modern gaming expectations.

The reveal was a great thing for gaming and Ubisoft’s dedicated fans, setting the stage for a big summer launch. The reception of Black Flag - Resynced also dictates the possibility of Ubisoft doing further remakes in the series going forward. If it turns out a success, it is likely we can expect many of the older games to receive the remake treatment. The older games were launched in an era where technology was very limited, compared to what we have now. It’s wise for Ubisoft to take advantage of the powerful tech and hardware we have at our disposal today, bringing new life to one of their most household games ever. The new version of Black Flag has a lot of promise, and it's destined to be one of the biggest smash hits this summer in gaming. The reveal was great for all gamers, and we certainly look forward to more information Ubisoft may offer leading up to launch on July 9th.

What were your thoughts on the reveal, and are you looking forward to the game? Let us know, and be sure to stay tuned for all news as well as various content on the game as release nears!
