From the Desk of Hytham the Acolyte - A Review of AC Valhalla: Journey to the North Review Share 26 Jul 2023 Written By: Edited By: Michael Smith Colum Blackett Back To Database Banner by Thea Marie Rivedal (Moonchildgecko) from TOWCB Art Team. Deluxe Edition photos by Aaron Young (Falconswift87) from TOWCB Writing Team. Article contains Amazon affiliate links that support TOWCB. One of the current discussions that has been prevalent in the past few years is the lengths of the RPG line of Assassin’s Creed titles vs those of the “classic” games. AC Valhalla being the latest entry in the series (as of this article) was well known to require hundreds of hours for players to dig in and experience the full story of Eivor and her Raven Clan coming to England with a pair of secretive warriors known as The Hidden Ones , to search for their shared enemy in The Order of the Ancients . Eivor traveled across the English countryside, the shores of Ireland, and the streets of Paris while also exploring the influences of Norse Mythology throughout this epic tale of starting over in a new land. However, unlike previous entries which documented the game, such as novelizations, strategy guides, or outside publications. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was expanded upon via multiple pieces of transmedia, but never provided an overview of the complete two-year content line. Even the art book that was released after the game only covered the main game and was more concept art of the landscapes and character types, but not every aspect was represented. Cover Art of Journey to the North In July of 2023, a new transmedia artbook/journal was released for what appears to be the end of the Valhalla story as we begin to transition into Assassin’s Creed Mirage. In The World of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Journey to the North - Logs and Files of a Hidden One, fans of the series are provided a complete overview of the AC Valhalla story and updated art book told through the eyes of Hidden One, Hytham the Acolyte. This 208-page book is the ultimate text of the story of what occurred in the main game and the paid DLC expansions. The Deluxe Edition photos provided by Aaron Young Deluxe Edition Spine Deluxe Edition Art Prints Journey to the North (as it will be referred to for the rest of this review) is available in two versions as many of the previous art books have been: The standard hardback for $49.99 USD and the Deluxe Edition for $99.99 USD. The deluxe edition comes in a special brown leather style cover contained in a teal slipcover with a folio featuring two art prints. I had originally planned on purchasing this one, but decided to get the standard one for now as I just wanted to read the book and didn’t see a personal value in the double price deluxe option. However, after seeing the images from fellow The Ones Who Came Before writer, Aaron Young, I wish I had. Yet, it is nice to have the concept art cover that I have shared in the image above. The book opens on an overview of what is to follow from the in-world author Hytham. The book is divided into five sections, each one having a vast amount of content organized in such an easy to read format that I applaud the book’s author Rick Barba for. Rick is a well known video game author with over 130 publications to his name including books and guides for series including Assassin’s Creed, God of War, GTA, Red Dead Redemption, and Star Trek to name a few. Previously he wrote Assassin’s Creed: Through the Ages for Scholastic Books during the content window for AC Syndicate. If you collect video game books, you most likely have something of his work without even knowing it. Entry on Sigurd Styrbjornson The first section which covers the Viking Lifestyle gives a history of the Vikings compiled through Hytham’s research and time with the Raven Clan. Speaking with and learning from the people of Ravensthorpe as well as information provided by Jarlskona Eivor Varinsdottir via the plot of Valhalla, Hytham spent time understanding the history of the people that he now considers family, the Viking people. It is in the first pages of the book that I recognized that Hytham was constantly busy while Eivor was progressing through the story of the game. I always felt that Hytham seemed static like a set-piece outside of the mission lines he would provide players, but this book gives him a life that the game was lacking. Having a detailed, but short history of the Vikings and how the Raven Clan came to England is a strong start for the book. Hytham's notes on Odin and Frigg In the second chapter, the full mythos of the Norse gods are presented, both in the story of the Dawn of Ragnarok expansion and the history of creation in the Norse myth and the gods that are worshiped by those around Hytham. Each of the Aesir is described and most of them are presented with the game image from the character’s Codex entry in the game. This is expanded on with the stories of the myths from the creation of everything to Ragnarok itself. It is also here where we can learn Hytham’s thoughts on the Viking beliefs and on the gods, including Loki whom fans know to be the Isu that is hosted by Sage Basim Ibn Ishaq, Hytham’s Mentor. A few of the buildings in Ravensthorpe The Viking Settlement is explored in the third section of the book and this is broken down as a tour of the Ravensthorpe settlement, with each building and citizen of the home to Eivor and Hytham discussed. What I liked most about this section is that each shop is very detailed in what it does and what it offers the people that live there, but also as what it does for players of the game. Knowing that the tanner, Wallace in the Hunting Hut can provide you with trophy mounts for completing special hunts, or that Yanli at the Trading Post can sell you decorations for the settlement, and tattoos for Eivor makes this section not just a travel guide for the settlement, but a guide for players to know who to see about their in-game needs. Eivor sitting with Oswald of East Anglia The last section before the Epilogue is The Viking Age, which is the full story breakdown of the main game, Wrath of the Druids, and Siege of Paris. Hytham describes the region, the Major Factions & Sects, and the Key Events for each “sequence” of the game. It is because of this section that I highly suggest this book for anyone that wants to revisit the game or read through the story without the required playtime. While everything recorded is from Hytham documenting Eivor’s recollection as she turns in the Order Medals from her clearing England from the Order of the Ancients, and later from her informing Hytham of what happened in other countries, his detailed writings of the events of the game provide more than enough information to understand the story without the traveling distance, filler content, or unnecessary dialogue. This is the closest that we will get to a novelization of Valhalla. Eivor (Male) in Concept Art for Seige of Paris The book closes with the Epilogue which is a closing entry from Hytham as he thanks Eivor for her efforts in riding England of the Order of the Ancients, and that his biggest regret is that of his mentor Basim, whom he still cannot believe betrayed the Norse siblings Eivor and Sigurd. He then gives half of the page to speak on Basim’s past which is a heavy reference and transitional text to Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Learning about Basim’s swift rise from street thief to Mentor and how Hytham was tasked with his first mission in Constantinople to keep an eye on Basim and report back to the Brotherhood. Yet, while Hytham understands that Basim’s actions drove him out of the light of his teachings, he hoped that he found the peace he was looking for. Basim Ibn Ishaq from Assassin's Creed Mirage While there isn’t a large amount of direct references to AC Mirage outside of the book’s final page, the written thoughts of Hytham reacting to Basim’s betrayal, of Basim having a son, and on Loki (not knowing the link to his mentor), there is enough to excite players for the next entry in the series. The epilogue alone made me more excited for October 12, 2023 when we will be able to play the new game. Hytham in The Golden City by Jaleigh Johnson I’ve said it multiple times in the past when talking about the transmedia for AC Valhalla and some of the 9th Century content, that Hytham is the anchor for the Valhalla epic. Yes players control Eivor, but outside of the game, Hytham is present in six titles (including the game and this book) and has interacted with multiple storylines and characters. He’s been a guiding hand for all of the transmedia characters in the Valhalla story, Niamh in Sword of the White Horse, Geirmund of Geirmund’s Saga , and in The Last Chapter content update for Valhalla (which is not covered in this book) he takes in a new class of Hidden Ones from the members of Ravensthorpe. Many argue that Valhalla had no Assassins (much like Origins and Odyssey), but I argue that we do have an Assassin in Hytham as the underlying focus of the entire story for this game linking lead characters together like Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I do wish there was more coverage of the free content updates like the Mastery Trials, The Forgotten Tombs, and The Last Chapter, but I can understand that not all of this content was available for this book at the time of release, or even when it was being written by Rick Barba. Some of the region overviews felt a bit short and not all characters were presented with an image and to agree with fellow TOWCB writer, Aaron, not all of the character shots from the game are the best composition or option for a profile photo. I would be curious to know if these were taken by the author, or provided from Ubisoft. I was happy to see game images with concept art, but do wish there was a higher quality at times. Concept Art of Bárid mac Ímair, King of Dublin My bottom line with The World of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Journey to the North - Logs and Files of a Hidden One is that it is a must have for fans of the game or the series in whole. I could even suggest it to fans of history as this is a fun historical fiction journal from a character in that time period. Nothing is incorrect historically, but may not be something that actually took place in the 9th Century Viking Expansion of England. The additional artworks for the DLC that we didn't have with the original Art of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is something that I would love to see from future games that offer DLC, and hopefully we can see something for older titles if they get remasters. With Mirage around the corner, I’m hoping additional transmedia is provided as it is my favorite aspect of the series by far. The book is available now in the US from publisher Dark Horse Books for the Standard Edition at $49.99 USD, or the Deluxe Edition for $99.99 USD. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 17th to 23rd April Community Share 25 Apr 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Colum Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week I will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: Assassin’s Creed Hidden One Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ 9b75 We start this week’s showcase with a captivating shot of Eivor appearing from the shadows. The lighting of this capture is truly breath-taking. The elegance of Eivor’s position allows the light to enhance the details on Ezio’s famous outfit. If you wanted a shot to epitomise the saying ‘we work in the dark to serve the light” then this is it. The Eyes Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ warriorqueenvp Eivor always wanted the Raven clan to be feared. Well with a stare as intense as this she can’t help but succeed. I admire the use of colour in this shot, with just three elements the capture stands out incredibly. The face tattoo works so well with the yellow eyes, it also creates conflict with it looking very Christian but on a Pagans face. An excellent portrait of our favourite Viking. The Dogs of War Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ lightfallimage Kassandra may be a fearsome warrior but facing a three headed dog is something else. This is one hell of shot, I love the depth of field, just enough to make the situation seem threatening. Kassandra’s stance is so good with the spear and sword at the ready. I have to say the capture and quote go hand in hand and make for a powerful package. Truly spectacular stuff from Jonnybubs. The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week: Judge: Colum Blackett (Col_96 from TOWCB Admin Team) This shot is incredible. It captures one of the most memorable moments from Assassin's Creed Odyssey and makes it cinematic. For me, this shot is worthy of recognition for numerous reasons. Kassandra's stance is incredibly powerful, with the three headed threat lurking in the background. She just looks so calm in the presence of an intimidating foe. I particularly like the depth of field in this shot, as although the background is out of focus, the colours shine through, creating a striking contrast to the calm, collected Misthios. Great shot. An epic capture. Winter Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Cll3ar This week’s #Thorsday shot is pure brilliance. The details on show here are magnificent, showing the VP artist skills and also Ubisoft’s epic world building. I believe this is from the Northumbria arc of the game. It was such a great idea to split the season over the different Kingdoms of England, allowing us to take vastly differing shots. I don’t think you could wish for a more Norse feel for our unofficial Thorsday theme. Checkout the set below. Link to set Vigilante Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP Artist: @ JPGphotomode We end this week’s showcase with a spectacular shot of Kassandra with her hood up. You can’t help but admire the shadow work in this shot. Mixed with the awesome face paint, Kassandra looks like she belongs to the league of assassins from DC. I would have loved to see Kassandra in a traditional assassin role, but maybe one day through the Infinity hub. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. An amazing shot of Roman England crumbling under Saxon rule. I really like how there is a dull emptiness but at the same time colour and vegetation. In a game that is relatively sparse the cities really do stand out. 4) The Field of Reeds Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey This week’s second capture comes from @GioWayne86 over on Twitter. A great capture of the sun setting over ancient Greece. I get Gladiator vibes with the hero walking through the reeds. I really like the use of the trees and the building far off in the distance. It would make a great picture on the wall. 3) The Beginning Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The third capture of the week comes from @BolukbasiGuner over on Twitter. An epic conclusion to a truly wonderful game. Bayek and Aya the founders of the order. A fantastic shot showing off the powerful couple after their fight for justice across Egypt. Assassin's Creed Revelations - A Decent End To A Perfect Trilogy Analysis Share 28 Sept 2024 Written By: Edited By: Gustav Poulsen (Gargudon) Back To Database 2011’s Assassin’s Creed Revelations, took on the ambitious task, of concluding one of the most iconic trilogies and narratives in all of gaming. Something it did in a decently satisfying and full circle way more or less to say the least. The game brought us some of the most action packed missions of the Ezio trilogy and the franchise overall, took us to a beautiful new part of the world, and concluded the stories of Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad and Ezio Auditore in a powerful way, giving Ezio who has lived through so much tragedy the happy ending he deserved, and heavily building on Altaïr overall, developing him more as a character than AC1 perhaps ever really did. Main narrative and story of the game aside though, the playing experience itself felt thin at points and lacking in gameplay diversity, especially coming off of Brotherhood. Some story missions were as said as action packed as can be, others kinda felt too short and simple, narrowed down to mere dialogue and or cutscenes, and in a way Constantinople lacked the world charm, that the predecessor’s portrayal of Rome delivered in style. - What we want to see from Assassins Creed Mirage | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
What we want to see from Assassins Creed Mirage Wishlist Share 15 May 2023 Written By: Edited By: TOWCB Team Colum Blackett Back To Database Here are the key things that members of TOWCB Team are hoping to see in Assassin's Creed Mirage. Aaron Young (TOWCB Writing Team) Improved Parkour, Stealth and Photo Mode ''I would love to see Mirage replicate the Unity formula with its atmospheric City and excellent parkour. I would quite like the memory sequences to return so that we are able to replay moments without having to restart the game. If possible I would also adore the reintroduction of customisation that Unity did so well and Jedi Survivor has just replicated. I can’t wait to be a real Assassin again patrolling the rooftops. As an archer I really hope Ubisoft has reconsidered the use of bows. I understand that they can be a little over powering in a stealth focused game, however AC III pulled it off. It’s bizarre to think Basim would not use one. To balance the gameplay why not make arrows sparse like the last of us. An Assassin with limited tools is surely the best. Finally and most importantly for me would be the inclusion of Valhalla’s photo-mode. The love that is out here for Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography is phenomenal with many tags still trending long after the games have gone. It is clear that Virtual Photography sells games and keeps a title in people’s minds. There is a respect for the Assassin’s Creed photo-mode despite how basic it is compared to say Horizon. I am most at home with the Valhalla Photo-mode but would love to see: -More distance -Expressions -Poses -Outfit Changes -Day and night options -Custom Lighting -Save Camera Positions -Photo-Mode in cut scenes -Hide Characters -Close up shots Even just a few of these things would go a long way to pushing the Assassin’s Creed photo-more tools on.'' A mock-up of how Assassin's Creed Mirage could look by FrameHoldPhotography ActualSpider-Man (TOWCB Writing Team) Narrative Pay-offs, Isu Puzzles and Links to Valhalla ''The setups of Valhalla’s multiple cliffhangers deserve their payoffs. By that I mean we need to see William Miles and crew synchronize Basim’s DNA into memories for William to experience. We need to see the impact of a Reborn Isu teaming up with Assassins. We need to see the Modern Day fallout of Layla’s sacrifice. We need to learn whether Loki had forged that last recording Layla sent to “not come find her”, or if that was truly Layla’s final wish. And regardless of that wish, we need to see Loki chastise William for leaving his son to die, and explain to him that Desmond is alive in another plane of existence as The Reader. It worries me how de-emphasized the Modern Day has been in the advertising for upcoming titles, reminding me of the same happening to the parkour in the past, and I hold out hope for at least SOME Modern Day answers in Mirage. It also being centered around our new Isu ally, I crave more meaningfully intricate Isu Language puzzles, and not just using Isu transliterations to spell English words, but broadening the language with needed AC-centric words we don’t already have, like colors (red, blue, yellow, white), relationships (beyond “Mother/Father”, we need brother, sister, partner, enemy, ally), time (more than “day”), etc., that would bring a huge smile to my face! Of course, surrounding the historical portions, I’m wanting this “return to form” to be a balance of Brotherhood’s scope, Unity’s parkour system, and a mix of the RPG combats. Personally I found the thousand things to do on the newer trio’s maps to feel like meaningless busywork when they weren’t somehow connected to the overall narrative, where Brotherhood excelled. Unity should be the benchmark of AC fluid motion mechanics, and I’ve sorely missed depth to the traversal, so I’d like to see its return. And I did have fun engaging in different styles of combat with different weapon and armor loadouts in the recent games, so I would like to see that consistency stick around, but with preferably much less damage sponging. It is a power fantasy, after all! All in all, I just want to see how Ubisoft decides to run with having full-on Reborn Isu DNA being in Assassin possession, something the Templars have been attempting to do since Black Flag. Are we gonna see the internal struggle of the mind between Basim & Loki firsthand? Is Basim going to have his own regressive memories from the Isu Era to flesh out more of Loki’s backstory? Are they going to link Basim & Roshan’s history up to Valhalla in meaningful ways? Fingers crossed, I sure do hope so.'' Colum Blackett (TOWCB Admin) Improved Parkour, Alamut Castle and Smoke Bomb Crafting Pieced together using quotes from our new podcast, Rally the Creed #1 . ''I think Assassin's Creed Mirage is sort of meant to be like a stepping stone. It's like a smaller bite-sized chunk of a game and then a bigger game is to follow. Fans are waiting for a game that really is ticking all the boxes in terms of the pillars of the franchise. If you look at real parkour. They have to reinvent that whole pillar if you ask me. People who are free running. they do this for a living, they're performing moves never seen in an assassin’s creed game, and time after time it's sluggish in-game. They need to really look at the parkour in Valhalla, really. It's sort of set the framework for parkour opportunity. The opportunity to do parkour is excellent, but parkour itself isn't. You want to really move and feel like an eagle above the crowd.'' ''There's a lot of things that they could do that, even though it's meant to be a smaller game. They could really add some scope to it. I mean for example it's set in a region that we've not really seen before. It looks like it's going to bring in Alamut which is the original Assassin castle. So where you had Masyaf in Assassin's Creed I, this is like a precursor to that. So like a base for the Assassins, so is literally the birth of the Assassin Brotherhood after the Hidden Ones go into hiding. '' ''And the cool thing with that trailer is that when Basim uses the red smoke bomb, that's almost like a call-back to Revelations, where you could craft your own smoke bombs. And that's a mechanic they could bring into this game. You can put blood in it, you put gold in it. You could have people running in the street. You know, the the beggars will run after you. It's a distraction and that's great for an Assassin. If you hiding in plain sight, I mean, you literally have got something in your pocket that can bring the whole street to the other side and you can just sneak in.'' ''If you're playing like an Assassin, why not unlock Assassin robes and you'll know you're getting rewarded by the Brotherhood, and with this game Mirage, it looks like you start as a Novice. I mean in the trailer he's literally a street thief who comes from nothing who works his way up through the ranks, and every time he does a mission he could gain a different piece of equipment, or by doing more training'' Listen to the full episode below to hear our full discussion on Assassin's Creed Mirage. Fr ameHoldPhotography (TOWCB Admin) Fluid Parkour, Replayability and Chain Kills ''I would love to see Mirage mix my favorite elements of the classic AC formula with subtle flairs of what we saw in the new RPG trilogy. A return to fluid parkour in tightly packed cities like we saw in Unity and Syndicate would be amazing, along with black box missions for key targets. The ability to replay missions and memories is also something I would really like to see come back in Mirage. There are so many key moments in Odyssey and Valhalla that I would love to replay, but I don’t feel like starting another game just to reach that one moment. I prefer the combat system and skill trees that were present in Origins, Odyssey, and especially Valhalla, and I would like Mirage to incorporate vastly different playstyles and builds for Basim. While I would like there to be more of a focus on stealth in Mirage, having the ability to spec out different builds for poison, traps, and range could be really fun. I would love to see Mirage bring back multi-kills as well—chaining kills in the older AC games was too much fun. Lastly, I want Mirage to include a more robust Photomode. Having the ability to change time of day, lighting, poses, and outfits would be amazing for virtual photography!' A mock-up of how Assassin's Creed Mirage could look by FrameHoldPhotography Gustav Poulsen (Gargudon) (TOWCB Video Content Creation Team) Varied Gameplay, Levelling Up & Optional Objectives ''Really I’d just love to see a return to the old, pre-Origins formula gameplay and structure wise. This mainly means the return of memory sequences over quests, and more varied gameplay overall; everything from main story missions with optional objectives, side missions, collectibles, 100% total completion etc. Origins did everything too loosely, there was no real difference between main and side quests, everything felt quite repetitive, and more or less being forced to play side quests in between main ones to necessarily level up was quite a drag, and made me quite uninvested in the story. Speaking of leveling up, I honestly have nothing against that; earning XP and skill points, and buying skills to upgrade your character. It works really well in both Unity and Syndicate, and in other Ubisoft titles like Far Cry, but there it works much better as you level up and acquire more skills as you naturally progress through the story.'' Screenshot by Col_96 from Assassin's Creed Unity Joe (UbiCypher) (TOWCB Social Media Content Team) Return of William Miles, Hassan-i Sabbah cameo & a Notoriety System ''I'd like to see if William appears as the user of the Animus reliving Basim's memories, and an interaction between him and Basim out of the Animus, Mentor to Mentor discussing the future of the Brotherhood now that Basim is the first ever recorded human being from the past to actually have revived (except Juno) and the consequences over the rest of the cells scattered around the globe it could cause to learn about such information. Also, William learning of Desmond's consciousness being within the super computer and undertaking a mission to try and bring him back somehow would be beautiful. Of course, the birth of the Assassins as we know them to finally wrap up the whole Hidden Ones ordeal and perhaps a cameo in the very end or post credits of Hassan-i Sabbah (perfect occasion to make his physical appearance) in the first mandates of the Creed. I'm intrigued about the parkour since lately there have been statements about the whole Unity inspiration thing being dropped for a more similar movement set tweaked from Valhalla. Weaponry, gadgets, locations, architecture and sandbox traversal also appeals to me as I always loved to go to the objectives on the roofs feeling like a real Assassin rather than walking which we have had a lot of in the last three iterations. I hope the dye mechanic is also back as well as a notoriety system, along with an economy one too similar to the Auditore through renovations.'' Promo image for Assassin's Creed II Michael Doyle (TOWCB Admin) Impact upon the World, Economy options and Building a Spy network Pieced together using quotes from our new podcast, Rally the Creed #1 ''But I think yeah that that does touch on something as well which is what we don't see too much of in Assassin's Creed is how the missions are linear, so obviously traditionally you kind of stuck to a path whereas now you can kind of roam around and you can kind of leave the area to to reapproach from different vantage points. But we don't really see too much of missions, where your actions impact story. So, you know, if you go to spare someone's life versus if you don't. If you decide to assassinate someone, from behind, or if you try and take them from afar, we don't really see how that impacts the story. And I think that'd be quite an interesting one to see in the newer game. But perhaps you then hear the guards later on talking about the events: Did you hear, he was killed without even being seen? He was behind a painting, that would be cool because then it brings you into the world almost as if you're having this impact on the the NPCs around you. Be quite an interesting one to look at.'' ''That's why I loved Assassin's Creed II. Just the ability to build out this thing and then it makes you money that you can then use, and then reinvest it. I think you could, especially if we're looking back at you know, Mirage and the idea that perhaps, he's on the streets and he hasn't got a lot of to begin with, watching that transition as you play the character into actually owning things or being able to invest in things. Maybe you can buy your own market stores that make you money and then they could be lookouts. So then you can get letters saying, Oh, they've seen guards here or they've heard this and you know, building more of a massive experience in the city. I think that would be quite an interesting one as well. And I think, especially in a game like Assassin's creed, that's what they would have. They would have eyes on the ground. They would kind of have this network. They don't join the Brotherhood, butthey're out there sort of being the eyes and ears.'' ''That'd be a great throwback. If you kind of see, you know, that's coming in from each of these people. Not teaching them, perhaps, but, maybe giving them wisdom, giving them insight, the odd skill that you can teach. Then you build this whole experience as a player of the game, you feel like you're not just playing as one character. You're almost playing as a community. You're playing as if you're part of a movement. Against the enemy, not just you as a lone wolf, which some games do feel like, even though you do have people around you, it is just very much you versus everyone else. Be quite nice to have that sense of camaraderie.'' Listen to the full episode below to hear our full discussion on Assassin's Creed Mirage. Mike Smith (TOWCB Admin Team) Discovery Tour at Launch & Basim's ageing ''I would like to see a more in depth Codex for the history of the characters and locations. With the listing of a new Discovery Book Wonders of the Orient I am hoping that a new Discovery Tour will be available at launch, or released as a DLC. I would also like to see Basim age over the course of the story to see how he becomes the Basim we know at the beginning of Valhalla.'' Peter Strat (TOWCB Video Content Creation Team) Stealth Tools, Intricate Level Design & Improved Parkour. ''For me I'd love to see a renewed focus for the two of the three main pillars on the series when it comes to gameplay. Combat has received a number of changes over the years but the other two pillars, parkour and stealth, have for the most part, regressed in terms of depth and player expression. Parkour had many layers, allowed for player expression and gave you more control in the early games in the series. However in recent titles, this has slowly been stripped away. A lack of control, options and overall fluidity as you move through parkour sections in recent titles has really made me miss the prior games. Stealth is a strange one but the tools you had access too in titles like Unity and the readability and consistency of a game like Origins slowly fell away. Another aspect I'd love to see return is a renewed focus on locations and further more, more intricate level design. The first couple of games felt grounded in their cities and they felt like a "main character". Cities had depth and a level of connectivity that made running around the rooftops such a blast. Sadly that's been missing, especially in the RPG trilogy. From a story point of view, I'd love to see a return of target focused plot lines and sequences. Something about learning all about a target, how to deal with them potentially and getting to know all about their character has felt sorely missed in the last few games.'' Yasmin Page (TOWCB Art Team) Historical Events, Animus Database Entries & The World Feeling Alive ''What I’m looking forward to most in Mirage is seeing how they develop the world and tie Basim’s story in with the historical events of the 860s. That was something I really liked with Assassin’s Creed 2 (for example) — that Ezio’s story really felt really grounded within the Italian Renaissance and his actions impacted real people. It really builds into the idea that the Assassins and Templars have always been there in the background, pulling the strings and shaping the world as we know it. Following on from this idea, I would also like to see a return of the Animus database, providing information on the historical events, places and characters that Basim will encounter in game. It’s a small detail, but as I first got into the series through my love for history, it really enriched my playing experience. If not a database, then another Discovery Tour would also be wonderful. Also, like many others in the team have said, I would love to see a return to Unity style parkour and the stealth of the earlier games in the series. It provided a different kind of challenge to missions other than just combat (although that is fun in itself). Stealth and parkour are such intrinsic things to the Assassin’s Creed series, and while I have loved the more recent titles it was a shame to see them lose importance. Ultimately though, I am excited to explore the world they build. The environments of Assassin’s Creed have always been full of life and detail, from the NPCs to the buildings and the music, and I’m sure that Mirage will not disappoint. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: November 9th - 15th Community Share 16 Nov 2020 Written By: Edited By: Gustav Poulsen (Gargudon) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome back to a new weekly virtual photography initiative hosted by Gustav Poulsen from The AC Partnership Program. Each week, five Assassin's Creed shots will be showcased here on TOWCB website, in order to promote virtual photography and community contributions. Gustav is a seasoned pro when it comes to virtual photography, and has a keen eye for special shots. Look out for more Photo Logs over the coming weeks, some of which may include Assassin's Creed Valhalla! England With the release of AC Valhalla last week, a new era of Assassin’s Creed has begun! This also means a swarm of new beautiful pictures, capturing the beauty of the North has hit the community. The honor of having the first Valhalla capture featured on the recap list goes to Instagram user @ ladyofthecreed. Kept short, this picture perfectly captures the sun behind a line of trees, spreading its beautiful light rays, as but a fraction of the English coast is illuminated. Be My Eyes, Synin This beautiful portrait of Eïvor’s trusted Eagle companion Synin, is taken by Instagram user @ beloved.of.bayek . Not too much to say about this picture, other than it’s overall awesome looking and well structured. The focus depth has been nicely paid attention to, as Synin in the front is in focus, while the illuminated ocean, snowy mountains & blue winter sky fades into the background. Ancestral Rite This next picture is taken by Instagram user @ acvideos_tiziochesichiamatizio . Judging from the title, this picture finds Eïvor paying his / her respects to the ancestors through a campfire ritual in the night. The photographer has really paid attention to getting the lighting just right, as Eïvor is completely covered in the darkness of the night. Not only is this capture just cool looking, but it also has an overall mysterious & spiritual vibe to it. Beautiful Norway Coming in at slot number four on the list, is a magnificent landscape shot by Twitter user @ jules_vp_ . This picture stunningly captures the sun setting over the snowy cold mountains of Norway, as it illuminates everything from the ocean to the snow. The lighting cast from the sun is on its own extremely beautiful, given its red, purple and golden colors. If anything, this picture is a prime example of how to capture the golden hour. Snowy Rivers Fifth capture on the list is taken by community member @ ckaloush . In it we see one of the many cold snowy rivers of the North, going through a forest filled landscape as a flock of birds soar above it in the distance. Additionally, the picture’s relatively dry and non-warm colour grading, perfectly matches the cold landscapes and winter vibes we see in it. Sunrise Kicking off the latter half of the first AC Valhalla recap list, is a capture by Assassin’s Creed UK founder and admin @ davewoodwardac. In it we see Eïvor on some high ground, watching as the sun rises on the cloudy horizon, casting its light all over the English highlands. This picture is not only extremely pretty, but also has certain cinematic vibe to it. From Norway to England Coming in at the seventh spot, is a beautiful cinematic shot by Twitter user @ G_Assassin90. In this one we see Eïvor having made it to the top of one of the many tall snow filled mountains of Norway, looking out over the ocean and snow filled landscapes. Additionally, this one also captures the stunning purple-esque colors of a Northern sunset. The Light Of Winter We’re obviously big fans of the early captures of the golden hour, and here is yet another picture of just that; this one by Twitter user @ 3mpireTimes. Not too much to say about this one, other than it once again beautifully captures the magic warm colours of a Northern winter sunset, as it also lights up all the magnificent surrounding landscapes. A Northern World On the second last spot on the first Valhalla recap list, we have just one more sunset capture for now, this one by Twitter user @ Leromir . This one stunningly captures another Norwegian landscape, as it, the ocean below and the clouds above are all coloured purple by the imminent sunset. The colours of a cold winter sunset do have a certain magic to them in the real world, and it looks like the new game has done a great job replicating that very magic. We can’t wait to see more pictures like this! A Viking’s Destiny Finally, coming in at the tenth and final spot on this week’s list, is an Eïvor portrait by Instagram user @ theguyinthespacesuit. A beautiful close up portrait taken from the side of our Viking protagonist, as he sees the sunset light casting over the Norwegian mountains. Right by his side, soaring above him, is his trusted raven companion Synin. This picture has a certain epicness to it to say the least. As one would presume by his facial expressions, this portrait is Eïvor getting ready to conquer the entirety of the map. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: 4th - 10th June 2022: Origins Edition Community Share 18 Jun 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week, we will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Aaron is a keen virtual photographer and loves to post his journeys through Assassin’s Creed on Twitter. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for capture across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. 1) Killer Croc Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s first capture comes from @ G_Assassin90 over on Twitter. First up in our Assassins Creed Origins special is a super bird’s eye view of a crocodile wading through the water. I Really like how this shot has the predator partly submerged in the green water. Anyone who’s played Origins knows how deadly these creatures are especially when hiding in the reeds. The eco system in Origins is the best I have seen in a game so far. 2) Egyptian Sunsets Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins Photo number two comes from @ virtualmiky This one is a perfect phone wallpaper. I love the positioning of the shot but also the stunning colours. This capture flawlessly shows off the beauty of Assassin’s Creed Origins. The game maybe almost 5 years old but it certainly doesn’t feel like it. Bayek on top of a pyramid will always be iconic. 3) Golden Sands Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ PodToGo using the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture For me this shot is just like the promotional material put out by Ubisoft when Assassin’s Creed Origins launched. It was photos like this that got me hyped for the game. I would certainly recommend checking out the full set of shots. The contrast of the bright blue sky and the golden sand is spectacular. 4) Black & White Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP number four comes from @ joshy_navaneeth member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. Time to mix things up with photo number four as we bring in a bit of black and white photography. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in character shots, but the buildings and environment can be just as awesome. I remember this location very well, it was nice how Origins was less repetitive with its buildings. You can see in this shot how people are just living here. It would be easy to mistake this for a real life photo. 5) Desert Hero Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins The final capture of the week comes from @kingforever008 member of our Assassin’s Creed VP Twitter Community. To close out our first Assassin’s Creed Origins showcase we have a real comic book style shot. I am a big fan of silhouette captures and this one mixed with the vibrant colours looks amazing. The rays from the sun behind Bayek make him feel like an imposing figure. I get real Batman vibes from this almost reminiscent of the Animated Series intro. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in. comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Share Your Thoughts Be the first to write a comment. This Week in Assassin’s Creed Virtual Photography: 20th to 26th February Community Share 28 Feb 2023 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. Every week I will be picking our top 5 favourite Assassin’s Creed shots and showcasing them on The Ones Who Came Before website, in order to promote virtual photography and talented content creators within the community. Keep an eye on the site as more weekly shots are added, we are looking for captures across all Assassin’s Creed games. Tag your photos to the #TOWCBWeeklyCapture for a chance to be featured. This week’s theme: Assassin’s Creed In Plain Sight Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Jakeste66386991 We start this week's showcase with an absolute cracker from Jakester. This shot is all about depth of field and how it highlights the Ezio outfit perfectly. I am definitely getting Brotherhood vibes from this photo. I am always impressed when people can capture the spirit of the old games within the newer ones. Thank you Ubisoft for adding the legacy outfits. The Ones Who Came Before Photo of the Week: Judge - Michael Doyle This capture has immortalised what it means to be an assassin, hidden in plain sight, yet with an elegance that stands out beyond the crowd around them. I also get a great sense of nostagla towards the original AC in this shot. Bayek appears ancient and wise, which is unique as this was taken early in Bayek’s life before the brotherhood truly began. The Master Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins VP Artist: @ reephto This shot was titled "The Master'' and I can't argue with that, In fact, I would say this capture is masterful in itself. For me this photo epitomises the Assassin's and what they stand for. I love that Bayek is in the Hidden Ones outfit, and that stunning shadow across his face/hood symbolises the Creed impeccably. Bayek's beard looks so detailed too, is this really a 2017 game? Ready for Battle Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ Nxthxn_Turner18 Next up we have Varin's axe in full view. This axe should be more famous than in is, the details are so impressive. The positioning of this shot is what drew me to it. I like how the depth of field highlights the axe and the hidden blade. You can see Eivor is ready for a fight, and that light forking down in front of her is really something. Saxon Slayer Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla VP Artist: @ PodToGo I may have some bias to this shot. When you like the hairstyle, armour, and the portrait style, all you can do is feature it. I am in awe of how good this capture looks; I feel like the metal on the outfit just glints in this style. I am definitely going to try this myself now, especially as the Huldufolk set is my favourite. A perfect photo for a Thorsday entry. Fallen Hero Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Platform: PS4 VP Artist: @ _TFoU_ The final shot of the week blends Viking and Isu to give off a real science fiction vibe. I don't usually use these outfits and weapons, but I have to admit it does look cool. The film grain style adds a real sense of grandeur. I love the combo of Fallen Hero, Excalibur, and the band around the eyes. Checkout the link for an awesome close up of Eivor. Link: https://twitter.com/_tfou_/status/1629937557076316160?s=46&t=ouVXsSaqJFul6_HVXb9RLg And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! - Assassin's Creed Animus Hub Teaser Analysis | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed Animus Hub Teaser Analysis Theories Share 26 Jan 2025 Written By: Edited By: UbiCypher (Joe) Colum Blackett Back To Database Welcome back! The embargo has been lifted and Assassin's Creed: Shadows is getting closer, the Story Trailer finally gave us some insights on what's to come. However I found something....Interesting. Buckle up. The Animus Hub trailer may be hiding something big. It may be something or it may be NOTHING at all. One thing is certain. I don't believe in coincidences and this is a huge one at that, dating all the way back to the holographic map showing the locations of Temples in AC1 & AC II. 1) Not an IP. You'll see what I mean. At the 1:47 mark, the video is almost reaching its conclusion with a summary of what we have just seen with four slides, one of them concerning the Projects. Well, if you pay attention to that slide in particular you can observe sets of numbers: 252.270.168.021. I thought it was an IP at first glance since Ubisoft is no stranger to ARG's and social engagement through complex Cyphers and puzzles. However, it isn't as IP's are composed of 4 numbers (Octets) oscillating between o and 255 thus 255.255.255.255 and 0.0.0.0. So that's not it. 2 ) Not a coordinate -at first- . This gets intricate. Well, since Ubisoft has already teased us with coordinates regarding various locations in the past ie: The Great Temple, I thought I could see if by arranging the numbers in way that they can be identified as Latitude and Longitude and to my surprise. It worked! I split 252.270 into 25º 2' and 70'' and 168.021 into 16º 8' 21 " and let ChatGPT do the rest by converting the numbers into Coordinates applying the DMS conversion system (Degrees, Minutes, Seconds) by arranging the numbers, adding overflow to minutes. Gibberish aside, the results were rather exciting! After the DMS conversion, the values turned to this: 25º 2' 70''-> 25º3'10" Since the second number was within 0 to 59 for minutes and 0 to 59.999 for seconds, no conversion was required thus simply being 16º8'21". So the final set of coordinates should be: 25º 3' 10"N, 16º 8' 21"E (Assuming Hemispheres). 3) A shocking revelation. It was for me at least. Well, the coordinates send you right in the middle of nowhere, but that middle of nowhere is 2000KM away of an Isu Vault. Most specifically, the one marked in the Apple Of Eden's map in ACII that corresponds to modern Lagos. While the coordinates redirects us to Libya the marker is really close to the frontier of Niger and Chad, which, are in turn next to Nigeria where the Temple is. But there's more. 4) A pattern . Maybe. There is another number, barely visible, but visible. 021".168".270"252"-> 21º16'8"N - 0º27'52"E. Approximately 1,163.7KM from another site, although in South Eastern Asian territory this time, matching the description of the Vault marked between Cambodia and Vietnam. As I said. Coincidence? Twice? I honestly don't know. But one thing is sure. It's weird. 5) What could this mean? It is but speculation from here on; One thing is certain, two coordinates, although not on the same spot, incredibly close to Isu Temples nonetheless, this can make oneself wonder. If this is just a coincidence. Well, so be it. If it isn't however. Is Ubisoft attempting to tell us where the next games will be? Are those sites having some importance in the upcoming Modern Day Story? I have no idea. This I will leave here for the community to solve. 6) Modern Day Sneak Peek. Besides this fun puzzle solving reminiscent of the old days, There is already a few things that we can figure out in relation to Modern Day from the trailer. An operation taking place in Marrakech looking for a merchant named Chafiq Elharar. Joel Eastman , an investigator (possibly) is looking for this merchant in Jemaa El Fnaa a square home to a bustling market place in Marrakesh, Morocco. No date is given, no names besides these two and that of the operatives of Abstergo Industries (possibly) Hamza and Idrissi. Joel is actively looking for Chafiq Elharar and makes contact with him, giving him a piece of paper that he refuses, the paper in question seeming important. And important it may be, as Hamza and Idrissi are monitoring this merchant that suspects being under surveillance. It looks like this information is found via the Data Files unlocked in the Project 1: Legacy. More to come soon it seems. One last thing though, there is this new thing called Animus EGO and the way they talk of the Animus almost in a cult-esque way, even "Follow the Trail and we will be in touch". - "Paths to mindfulness". Whatever that means. Many questions and no answers. Exciting nonetheless! So far this is everything, nothing more to add. Could this possible Animus Hub Easter Egg link AC SHADOWS to AC II? I believe it is a good chunk of info that we can begin to digest as it clearly gives us a taste of the future of the franchise, so the rest is up to you folks. This is it for today! - TOWCB Assassin's Creed Art Exhibition: Yasmin Page | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
TOWCB Assassin's Creed Art Exhibition: Yasmin Page Art Share 6 Jul 2022 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the first article in a new series dedicated to Assassin's Creed art. This new community showcase will explore the works of many artists around the world, and cover many different styles. Our first 'art-icle' is dedicated to Yasmin Page, a talented digital artist based in Melbourne, Australia who discovered the Assassin's Creed series in 2019. In Summer 2022, Yasmin joined our Assassin's Creed Partnership Program (Isu Network) Art Team, so keep an eye out for future projects on the site! We begin our art exhibition with a hooded Altaïr, member of the Levantine Brotherhood of Assassins and later Mentor of Masyaf. To me, this looks like the original Altaïr that we saw in AC1, voiced by Philip Shahbaz. The face hidden beneath the hood resembles the AC1 face model, where an older version of the Animus made ancestors look like its users, in this case Desmond Miles. The shading is particularly impressive in this digital sketch, adding tone and depth to the great Assassin. Next up we have Ezio Auditore from Assassin's Creed II, the charming Florentine nobleman who goes on to become Mentor of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins. I particularly like the detail on the iconic scar which he receives after an encounter with a sharp rock on the Ponte Vecchio bridge in Florence. Ezio's hair is also striking in this piece, and to me, his lack of facial hair indicates that this is a youthful man in the days before the tragic events of AC II. Here we have Desmond Miles from either AC II or AC Brotherhood. This is a character that changed many times throughout the series, but this piece does well to capture an early version of the character. This piece makes me think of a Desmond who is enjoying his freedom after escaping Abstergo with Lucy Stillman, hopping in and out of the animus in search of answers. Arno Victor Dorian. The hair. The eyes. The stance. Yasmin has done an incredible job of capturing Arno's facial expressions, and this piece in particular shows off her talent for bringing Assassin's Creed characters to life. I can't age Arno in the piece, but the piercing gaze and nose scar portray him perfectly. Hopefully this is before the great pain he suffers in Assassin's Creed Unity. Here we have the Great Medjay, Bayek of Siwa. Looking at this picture, I feel like I can hear Abubakar Salim's exceptional voice acting. It makes me want to boot up Assassin's Creed Origins again, and hunt down the The Order of Ancients. This piece also had me re-listen to 'I Walk on Your Water' by Sarah Schachner, one of the stand-out songs on an excellent soundtrack. I really like how this piece captures Bayek's mood, especially after the loss of his son. The dark background also builds on the sombre atmosphere. If looks could kill. In this case, they do. Here we see Kassandra, also known as The Eagle Bearer or Misthios. Although some felt that Odyssey was a questionable title for the series, as it acted as a prequel to a prequel. Kassandra's personality and the great open landscapes made it worth at least one playthrough. This is another side profile sketch, something which Yasmin excels at. I like how the shading on Kassandra's neckline adds to the 3D effect of the image, along with the wisps of hair which add volume against the white background. Kassandra had a great sense of humour, and knew how to be sarcastic without being annoying (unlike Shaun Hastings) ''Malaka!'' Grand Master Haytham Kenway, wearing the iconic tricorn hat. This is a man who is planning the expansion of the Colonial Rite of the Templar Order, and the destruction of the Assassin Brotherhood. I like how the colours chosen for this image bring to mind those connected to the Templar Order. Another character who would be depicted well in this style would be Shay Cormac, as he is the perfect reflection of this red and black colour scheme. It looks as if Haytham has just been in battle, and the small pieces missing from the Templar cross remind me of animus fragments, suggesting descyronisation. This piece is a cool tribute to a great character, who in another timeline, would no doubt have been a great Assassin. Finally, we have Ratohnhakéton, also known as Connor (and not Connor Kenway). To me, this looks like Connor in simpler times, before the destruction of his village. The light surrounding him could even be depicting the scene during his first encounter with the Apple of Eden, where Juno reached out to him in an effort to locate and hide the Grand Temple Key for Desmond. I like the use of the purple background, as it is a colour you don't see very often in Assassin's Creed. My favourite part of this piece is Connor's hair because of the level of depth achieved by the artist, especially the attention to detail in including Connor's plait, a signature of the character's youth earlier in the game. There's a long road ahead for this young man, but he will meet his destiny head on with striking conviction. That's it for this Assassin's Creed Art Exhibition. This Week in Assassin's Creed Virtual Photography: 2nd April - 8th 2022 Community Share 16 Apr 2022 Written By: Edited By: Aaron Young Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to the new weekly virtual photography roundup hosted by Aaron Young from The AC Partnership Program. 1) Church Game: Assassin’s Creed III This week’s first capture comes from @ annatheginguh over on Twitter. A bit of a different shot to open this week. I am always looking for VP outside of the RPG games. Here we see a beautiful photo of a Church in AC3. It blows me away how great this looks, especially for a game that originally released in 2012. I am a big fan of the positioning of this capture, as it really showcases the environment. 2) Spartan Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Photo number two comes from @BookieVp over on Twitter. What a stunning capture. This Spartan looks ready for battle, and I am getting massive 300 vibes here. I chose this shot due to the detail on the helmet. I love the horse hair on the top with the wolf just below. Easily one of the best helmets in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The lighting, and particularly the saturation really makes this photo standout. 3) Anubis Game: Assassin’s Creed Origins This week’s third shot comes from @ flyingfeather_g over on Twitter. This is such a cool photo of Anubis. If I remember correctly, this was one of his shadow guards in The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC . It is great to see some VP for NPC’s, especially when they look like this. I also like that the focus is solely on the character, making the gold really pop. 4) Seaside Game: Assassin’s Creed Odyssey VP number four comes from @ Rimaeternax over on Twitter. I am not sure what it is about this capture but I really like it. The depth of field is perfect, allowing you to see the background, but without taking anything away from Kassandra. The timing of the shot is brilliant too with all three characters looking in the same direction. The shadow of Ikaros is very impressive, and at first I thought it was a different bird. It kind of feels like this is a classic hero moment. 5) Axe to Grind Game: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla The final capture of the week comes from @ Lycantocles from the ACFirstCiv VP Twitter Community. My final pick of the week is very Viking, and that’s why I like it. I assume from the pose that Eivor has just finished a move on some helpless Saxon. The duel wielding in Valhalla does lend itself to some awesome shots. Eivor reminds me of Ragnar here, and the level of detail on that axe is amazing. And that sums it up for this week’s Assassin’s Creed virtual photography recap list! Thank you for checking out this week’s photo collection. This would not be possible without the virtual photographers out there so a huge thanks to them. Until next week keep those shots coming in comments debug Comments Write a comment Write a comment Partagez vos idées Soyez le premier à rédiger un commentaire. - Assassin's Creed News Recap: 7th - 20th August 2022 | TheOnesWhoCameBefore
Assassin's Creed News Recap: 7th - 20th August 2022 News Share 21 Aug 2022 Written By: Edited By: Colum Blackett (Col_96) Ashlea Blackett Back To Database Welcome to a new Assassin's Creed News Recap series, hosted by Colum Blackett (Col_96) from The Ubisoft Star Players Program (Formerly Mentors Guild). Every week, we will be rounding up Assassin's Creed News and sharing it here on The Ones Who Came Before website. Keep an eye on the site every Sunday for more weekly recaps, or check out our social media links down below to stay updated on everything Assassin's Creed. 1) We have quite a lot to cover in this Assassin's Creed news round-up, this time spanning a fortnight instead of a week due to the launch of our Assassin's Creed Community Fundraiser! In collaboration with various community members and organisations, we here at TOWCB are raising funds for The British Heart Foundation and The American Heart Association, two incredible organisations providing critical cardiovascular medical research and education to facilities around the world. To increase donations, we are currently hosting an art sale! Lisa Zaman from the Assassin's Creed Partnership Program has kindly donated prints which we are selling via GoFundMe donations! To purchase a print, simply donate £15 for one, or £25 for x2, and message the admin team with your selections and details! Please donate if you can and help the fundraiser reach it's target of £1500! All donors receive a special thank you pack containing a surprise, and will be entered into raffles depending on donation amount. 2) Antheum Studios released new images of the Assassin's Creed Whisky, and it looks incredible! ''Crafted in the hill country of Texas and finished in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, this 4 year old straight bourbon whiskey carries a rich flavour with rye spice, wheat character, and hints of cherry, vanilla and oak. Appealing to spirit connoisseurs and fans alike, this iconic selection is a worthy addition to any bar. Game hard, drink responsibly.'' Look out for the Assassin’s Creed 15th Anniversary Straight Bourbon Whiskey, which is available now from various retailers in the US! 3) The teaser trailer for the Assassin's Creed event coming to PUBG Battlegrounds dropped! Never did we expect to see Master Assassin Ezio Auditore using a frying pan to knock out enemies, but here we are. In fairness, the crossover has done a good job at replicating Abstergo Industries and Ezio's robes. It also looks like the game features a number of core pillars sacred to the identity of the brand like the leap of faith and the Hidden Blade, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out in-game. 4) Mike Smith from the AC Partnership Program (Isu Network) released his fascinating new interview with Kate Heartfield, author of The Magus Conspiracy novel. In the interview, we discuss her book and working with publisher Aconyte Books on a new trilogy for the Assassin's Creed universe; The Engine of History. For the first time ever, we also released the interview transcript, so you can enjoy this interview on Youtube , or here in written form! 5) We were happy to release a Q&A with Michael Doyle, an online article writer who recently joined the AC Partnership Program (Isu Network). Michael is a close friend of TOWCB admin team and has provided support behind the scenes for many years. In the interview, we covered everything from the Netflix Assassin's Creed TV show to the upcoming Ubisoft Forward Assassin's Creed event. Check it out here! 6) Ubisoft shared three new creations for the weekly social media series titled Wallpaper Wednesday. To mark the 15th Anniversary of Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft have been commissioning community artists. The first image, featuring an Assassin underneath the AC15 logo, and the second, showcasing settings from the games were created by artist Valorianru , formerly of The Mentors Guild! We love the use of colours in these two creations! The third image, by Assassin's Crweed , shows Desmond Miles in a powerful stance holding the Apple of Eden, surrounded by shattered glass fragments featuring the faces of Assassins. Look carefully and you'll notice that even the tiny fragment closest to Arno has an Assassin looking back. It's great to see community artists getting opportunities like this, and we are very much enjoying all of the creations. 7) We celebrated 8 years since the creation of The Ones Who Came Before. The main focus for this year's celebration was to launch the Assassin's Creed Community Fundraiser, but we still have one or two celebratory projects to release later on in the month. To mark our anniversary, we reflected on our history in a new article titled 8 Years of The Ones Who Came Before: Looking Back. Check it out here! 8) Hugo Sahuquet, Former Associate Narrative Director at Ubisoft Bordeaux shared some of his notes from the creation of the Wrath of the Druids DLC! We love stuff like this, showing the inner thought processes of the devs, and also how ideas change over time. Look carefully at the notes and you'll notice early dialogue ideas for a quest featuring Barid and Ciara! 9) Ubisoft shared a cryptic image featuring Morse Code on their Weibo account which reveals the phrase “coming soon” The second translation roughly says 'retrace the past, improve the present, define the future.' What do you think they are teasing? 10) Voice actor Roger Craig Smith (Ezio Auditore) shared an image of himself outside of the Ubisoft Montreal studio in Canada! This image sparked speculation that he could he be working on an Ezio project with Ubisoft, and we actually can't rule that out just yet. It could just be a fun tweet by Roger, but then again, it could be something more. The purpose for the visit remains a mystery, but with a new platform based Assassin's Creed project titled 'Infinity' currently in development, it may be that we start to see small chunks of content for older characters, so it may be possible to see Ezio again, or even get a conclusion for other characters such as Connor or Arno. Fingers crossed, the Mentor will return one day! 11) Several retailers including Amazon and IndieBound listed an upcoming novel titled 'Assassin's Creed: The Golden City', written by Jaleigh Johnson & published by Aconyte Books! The novel is set to release February 7th 2023! A young emperor’s life hangs in the balance, and only the Brotherhood of Assassins can save him, in this action-packed historical adventure from the award-winning Assassin’s Creed universe. Which Empire do you think it could it be referring to? 12) Ubisoft announced that CJ Allan (CJthegeek) would be host presenting the #AC15 Cosplay Competition by @CosXpo at Insomnia Gaming Festival! ''As a legendary host of past cosplay competitions, his expertise will benefit this amazing #AssassinsCreed event on Saturday 27th August'' Although we are unable to attend the event ourselves, we are very much looking forward to seeing all of the entries! Good luck Assassins! 13) Check out this incredible Assassin's Creed 15 Year Anniversary sand art project by @fallinginsand This impressive creation is one of many art projects commissioned by Ubisoft to mark the 15th Anniversary of Assassin's Creed It's interesting to see all the ways Ubisoft are thinking outside of the box to mark the occasion, and we love seeing unique creations such as this. We hope that you enjoyed this Assassin's Creed News Recap! You can look forward to more articles like this, dropping every Sunday! What was your highlight of the week?
